Langley's pace slows after two laps . Chief is slacking , figure leaning much too close to the path boss had blazed . With a swift flick of the wrist upward , cane is tossed into air & caught with ease ; lower towards base , for the length she'd previously cradled now lifts Rookie's chin upwards .
