HAND THEM OVER!

I would first like to give a major thank you to ‎MugiwaraCosplay and ‎@rah-bop For their fabulous tutorials that helped me bring this creepy fella to life! Rah-Bop has an awesome tutorial for gluing feathers, and Mugiwara has a breathtaking tutorial on making face rip-away masks like the one you see here!

He has yet to be fully developed character-wise, but I'm toying with the idea of going for a Grim Reaper/Plague Doctor Demon theme. As for names? So far, Ramos seems to be catching my fancy, but that's subject to change. I plan on making him into a 3/4 suit in time for Youmacon 2023.

Now, there are a couple of things about this mask that could use improvement. For example, the magnets used to keep the 2 faces together are very weak, and the top mask can easily slip off as a result, so I'll need to reinforce those. Secondly, the skull part still needs a zipper on the back to make it snug to my head. Thirdly, something about how some of the feathers lay kinda bother me a touch, plus I think I may have went overboard with how many feathers I added but, I won't be plucking feathers. I'll likely add more to help everything lay better. Otherwise, this is work I'm definitely proud of!

Also been unable to work due to a new medication I'm on and I'm out of PTO. So I'm like. Kinda panic mode??? Its been a hot minute hasn't it? Oh well, better late than never I suppose.

So...While going through some major life changes, I also got into Final Fantasy.

Meet Eris, she is from Final Fantasy 16. She is the Dominant of Life and her Eikon is winged sea-serpent named Massana. Since all life originated in the oceans, it only seemed fitting to make her ocean-themed. As for why a serpent? Snakes were the symbol of healing in some cultures so...

With her powers of life, she can heal anyone, cure blight, heal and ease the pain of bearers suffering from petrification, and even revive the recently deceased. Eris was an unknown dominant due to her and her people living on a small group of islands in the middle of the ocean, far removed from the mainland. Her people were a blissfully unaware and hidden civilization, but became a lost civilization when Barnabas' army discovered her home, the existence of the Dominant of Life, and sought her power for subjugation. Eris escapes as Massana, but was heavily displaced and unable to find her way back.

Eris wears a lot of silks and soft material along with her prized possession: Her oversized gold shawl. Made for her by her people and endowed with healing magic, it can calm an anxious mind, tame any wrath, and soothe the sadness of any who wears it. The shawl is self-healing, therefore, cannot be destroyed. Eris keeps it on her at all times as her only memory she has left of her home and to keep her hair-trigger temper in check.

At first glance, Eris is a calm, gentle gal with a delicate touch and a inquisitive mind. She is excellent at cooking, baking, swimming, and the arts such as painting, drawing, and sculpting. However, Eris has a temper and is not shy in hiding it. Especially when she is not listened to the first time.

For example: If doing something annoying, she asks you to stop, and you do not listen to her the first time, she will explode at you.

Or if she warns against you wanting to do something dangerous, but you do it anyway and get hurt in the process, she will refuse to heal you and settle for giving you a harsh lecture for being a dumbass.

This is a healer you do not want to piss off.

A 20 minute self-portrait sketch.

For about 8 years, I've had my hair cut short and ironed straight. I loved it that way, and it looked amazing on me. Recently I have been growing it out, and when I look in the mirror, at the tangled mess of waves and loose curls, I soon discovered I no longer crinkle my nose in disgust.

If I may confess: I kept my hair very short and very straight because I didn't want to look like my parent, whom I am unfortunately not on good terms with. Plus, it was the one thing I felt I had control of myself at the time when they had control over everything else.

But now? I see a different person, a beautiful person, whos been through a lot, who finally is accepting her hair, and its a huge leap for her. I could not be more proud of that woman in the mirror.

To help my acceptance further, I decided to draw myself with my hair in its natural state, and this self-portrait made me just love my hair and its wild, untamed waves even more.

Okay yeah, this is a corny post, but its very significant for me in my journey of healing from abuse, and I thought it was worth sharing. I hope for everyone else out there still struggling, you are able to find yourself in a safe place to begin to heal.
