Samira and Indra with “i need to show you something.” Please

"I need to show you something, down in my realm."

Indra did not make a habit of asking much from Samira. The two of them were content with meeting where their proverbial realms met at night. Ghosting along one another in a quiet dance.

So this was a rarity. And while they were curious, Samira wanted a few more details than that.

"In your realm? Indra I'm sure that the pufferfish are delightful, but I have seen them before. Your creatures are lovely; however, I don't believe it warrants a full trip."

Indra's eyes crinkled up as she smiled, "No, it's not another fish. And don't pretend you don't find them fascinating, you're an awful liar."

"Then what is it?"

"Come down and I'll show you."

Samira rolled their eyes, yet followed anyways. Down to the sea, the flowing blue waters and then below it. It was cool over their skin, the dark of the new moon blending in to their lover's abode. Only interrupted by faint bangles of silver.

And their hair of course, but that was fine.

Indra sank further down and Samira followed, lower and lower until they came upon a wall, a mural. A mural of-

"Oh."

The glowing blue algae lined a depiction of Indra's face, with all of her eyes and her back fin illuminated that same sea blue hue, gazing up at a figure outlined in mother of pearl and dark obsidian.

It was them.

It was them.

"It seems they've taken notice of us, love. I know you're not one for spectacle or worship, and I do not blame you. Still, I wanted you to see."

Cool stone beneath their palm, etched with such care- it left them at a loss for words. Still, Samira did their best.

"The mer do incredible work, I commend them for it."

An emotion Samira could not describe welled within their chest, examining the artwork, so... set in stone. Unchanging, a mark to stand the test of time. Something that would be told from one generation to the other.

They did not often think of their perceptions to mortals, much less what monuments they made. But this... It touched them. Truly.

Perhaps, even when this stone was worn away by the sea, Indra and them could still visit and remember.

“Sometimes I just wish people weren’t stupid. That people were like me, or that they didn’t cause any problems. I guess everyone wishes that, but still. Is it so much to ask that everyone not be stupid? I’m not asking for tolerance, since you can only tolerate so much.. But at the same time it feels like I am. I’m asking for.. I don’t know, poob. I want a world where I don’t have to deal with idiots. No one ever acts as strong as me or as smart as me. Adults act like children.”

The therapist Waddle Dee nodded silently at her talking, encouraging her to continue.

“Dark Meta acts stupid, all the villains I’ve met are stupid, even my own dang friends and the people I’ve saved are- they can hardly take a friendly ribbing. I can’t rely on anyone else if they’re stupid or that emotionally weak. I’ve been trying to make friends, but I can’t keep them. I’ll befriend people who I actually want to talk to, then I’ll never see them again. I know it sounds childish, but I’m still a kid, poob.. But I really do just want a place where there’s no dumb dumbs, where I can be happy with my friends. Even if I only have a little. I just. Want to be legitimately happy.”

Shirby’s harping had got her slightly misty-eyed, but only slightly. She’d repressed her tears, like most other things, easily.

“Not fake happy, that I show people to make them trust me. The same sort of upbeat happiness and curiosity I have to show if I want people to like me.. I. I want to be in a place with people who make me happy, and I want them to be happy too. I’ve been working on making the Mirror World safe.. I just need to work on making it happy, now. But that’s a lot harder than just putting people’s faces in the dirt.. You can’t just force happiness on people, it doesn’t work.. Unless I had like, magical ‘you are now happy, hooray’ powers.”
