The past few days you've been recovering under Eira and Lumis watchful eye. They've taken great care of you, keeping you warm and fed, giving you medicine, even keeping you entertained when they could, reading to you, sometimes even bringing out puppets to read along, which you found quite amusing despite your age.
They've taken you in like you're their own, like you're family, (and to be honest, part of you wishes you were...) and you've never been more greatful in your entire life.
But unfortunately, no matter how much you wish being part of their family was true, no matter how badly you wanted to stay, that wasn't an option. You'd have to leave eventually, and now that you've recovered, it's time to say farewell.

Eira looks startled "Ready to leave? Are you sure?" She questions nervously.
Lumi looks even more shocked than her wife, almost as if she's ready to pass out, and she swiftly takes a seat next to you
"We don't mind taking care of you dear, Really! Just stay with us for a while longer!" She tries to reason.
You smile at their kind gesture, knowing they're likely just trying to be polite, and continue,
"I'm so very thankful that you don't mind taking care of me, I really am! I'm thankful for everything you've done! But I'm pretty sure I'm fully recovered now, and I'd feel rude staying any longer than I need to..." You respond warmly.
Lumi looks heartbroken, and somewhat... unstable? You can see her starting to shake but before she can say anything Eira quickly steps in front of you and cuts her off.
"Just stay one more night. I need to do a little work on the car and we can take you into town in the morning, alright?" She says calmly, and exchanges a look with her wife, who appears to look betrayed at first but then something on her face shows a deeper understanding... and she calms down swiftly.
Despite their 'understanding', you get a weird feeling that something is very off.
Nevertheless, the two of you agree on it.
You offer to help make dinner the final night of your stay, but they insist they'll take care of it themselves, and that you don't need to worry yourself with it.
You still can't help but sense that something is deeply off, in fact they seem a little too insistent, but you tell yourself they're just trying to be kind, so you sit in the living room as you wait, cozied up by the fire.
Theres nothing to be afraid of, they've spent so much time taking care of you, why would they ever hurt you?
You chalk it up to you just being afraid to leave after how well they've treated you, and take a deep breath.
Everything will be alright, you're sure if it.

In the kitchen, while ladling the stew into bowls, Eira makes sure to separate them, white bowls for them, blue for you.
She opens a cubord, high above the stove, and looks at her wife.
Lumi looks out of the kitchen, into the living room towards you, who is resting by the fireplace, distracted by a book on the side table.
She looks back at Eira, and gives her a reassuring nod.
Out of the cubord, she pulls out a prescription bottle, takes one of the pills, and sprinkles it into your stew, stirring it around, letting it dissolve.
She then pushes the bottle far back into the cubord, and shuts it quietly.
Eira preps the bowls onto the serving tray, and Lumi steps out of the kitchen
"Y/N! Dinner is ready!" She calls for you.

As you eat in the dining room, you can't help but feel like Eira and Lumi are watching you more intently, and it's oddly quieter than usual.
Becoming tense in the silence, you clear your throat and decide to strike up a conversation.
"If you don't mind me asking, why do you guys have a children's bedroom? Did you guys used to have children? Or have any grandchildren?" You attempt to ask politely.
Eira appears nervous at your question, Lumi looks pained. They both look at each other and Lumi speaks up first.
"Neither of us are able to have children unfortunately. We tried convincing adoption agencies to let us take care of children." She takes a shaky breath before explaining further.
"We got quite far into the process y'know, decorated the room, even set up a playroom down the hall, though you haven't seen that yet." She reminisces warmly, but the warm tone fades shortly after as she continues.
"Laws were changed while we were in the process, making it more difficult for us to adopt due to our housing..." She appears ready to cry and Eira grabs her hand under the table, rubbing it soothingly, and takes over for her.
"Our location makes it too difficult for any child to reach the support systems they'd need, too far from counselors, too far from any school, too far from others for them to make any connections outside of family." Eira takes a deep breath, looking down.
"Due to the harsh weather and how difficult it is to get up here because of the terrain, among other issues with our property, they told us it wasn't suitable enough, and we'd have to be taken off the list for now." Eira explains, voice breaking towards the end.
You look at them distraught "I'm so sorry... I shouldn't have asked..." You apologize to them, feeling terrible for even bringing it up.
Lumi wipes her eyes with her sleeve, and looks at you warmly "Oh, you don't need to apologize love, it's not your fault." She clears her throat and continues "We're sure we'll get to have a child of our own soon enough, we just need to wait, that's all." She smiles weakly.
The three of you finish dinner, and shortly after they insist on tucking you into bed, despite you not needing them to anymore, you let them.
After all, they've struggled so much, maybe it helps them feel better.
Lumi and Eira whisper from the doorway,
"Goodnight!"
"Sweet dreams!"
"Goodnight" you whisper back, and as the door shuts gently, you drift into a deep, heavy slumber.

In the early morning, you wake up to a deep soreness surrounding every inch of your muscles, accompanied by a terrible sinus headache.
You sit up weakly, brain fog consuming your thoughts, and as you shift the gaurdrail down and try to stand up, you collapse, stomach churning.
Doubling over onto the ground, the sound of you vomiting echoes down the hallway.
Shortly after, footsteps can be heard rushing towards the room, and the bedroom door swings open.
Assisting you up, Lumi sets you back onto the bed gently "Oh, my poor baby, are you sick?" She kisses your forehead for a few seconds, checking your temperature, before sitting up "You have a fever, poor thing."
Eira returns to the room with cleaning supplies, taking care of the mess as Lumi watches over you.
You rasp "I'm so... sorry... I didn't mean-"
"Shh baby, shh... You have nothing to be sorry for. Just rest your eyes while Mama gets you some tea, okay?" Lumi swiftly cuts you off, pressing another kiss to the top of your head before heading out the room.
"Mama...?" You say confused.
Is... she pretending you're her child?
No, no way, you just misheard her that's all, right?
Besides, who does that? You're too old to be taken in as their child anyway.
You feel too sick to really dwell on it any further, so you just do as she says, resting against the pillow with your eyes closed until she comes back.
When Lumi returns, she sits beside you, the bed dipping beneath her weight, and she hands you... a sippy cup?
Okay... what the hell?
"Drink this love, it's tea with ginger and honey, it'll help you feel better, I promise." She puts the warm bottle into your hands.
"I... can drink from a cup... though...?" You choke out from your sore throat.
Lumi reasons with you "I know baby, but we don't want you spilling anything on the bed. I'm very sorry, but it's the best we have sweetheart."
You look at it heasentantly, and now you start to question that maybe they really are trying to make you their child?
But... that's absurd! That's not a thing, is it?
You reluctantly drink from the sippy cup as Lumi helps tuck you back in beneath the blankets.
Eira returns after putting away the cleaning supplies "I'll sit in here and watch over them, you can go back to bed love, I'll make sure they're okay."
Lumi looks down at you worried, and looks back at her wife "Are you sure? What if something happens and I'm not here?"
"How about this, we..."
Shortly after finishing the cup, you find yourself unable to fight against the urge to fall sleep, and drift off rapidly.

The rest of the day is a blur, coming in and out of sleep. Hazy memories of being fed by either Eira or Lumi. You think you remember a baby bottle? Or was that a fever dream?
Maybe you throw up again, maybe they change your pajamas, maybe you're too sick to determine what's actually happened and whats been dreamt up in your feverish mind.
The day passes like a thick fog, and you find yourself tucked into bed another night, unable to go home.

The next day is the very same, blurry, fast, you can't tell what's real or fake, all you know is you feel terribly ill, and you just want it to end.

The third day isn't as bad, you find yourself being able to make some sense of everything, but your body is still weak and your stomach is in knots.
By late evening, you're put to bed, but this time you pretend to fall asleep.
You feel too ill to actually sleep, but you don't want to bother Eira and Lumi by having them watch you another night, so you let them leave the room, thinking you've drifted off.
However, this would cause you to feel far, far sicker than you did before.
Outside of the door, you can hear their whispering voices.
"You're drugging them too much Lumi! They've been barley conscious the past three days!"
"I'm sorry! I'm just scared they won't want to stay! What if they try to fight back!? I can't have them leave Eira, I just can't..."
"Lumi, sweetheart, this is why I'm installing security measures, once they're fully installed they won't be going anywhere, I promise. Just keep them mildly sick until we can talk with them. Just be patient, they'll be part of the family soon enough."
"But what if they don't want to be though? What if they fight back and they hate us and- "
"Lumi, that's when we can discuss giving them higher doses, but for now we can't be sure what they'll say. Either way they're going to be our kid whether they like it or not."
You try not to throw up.
"Besides Lumi, you've heard them talk about their 'family' and 'friends'. They're never there for them, ever. They don't have anybody, they'll come around eventually."
This can't be happening... Right...?
"You promise?"
"I promise my love"
You wait until you can hear them leave. You wait until the lights are out. You wait until the door down that hall shuts.
You wait for what feels like forever before getting out of your bed.
You don't know if what you heard was real or if you were dreaming it or what, but you need to find out sooner than later.
All those thoughts about wanting to be part of their family make you want to throw up.
And yet, somewhere deep inside of you, despite everything you just heard, you know you want it to be true...
Still, you have to investigate.
You have to know.
