🌑 Welcome to Tenebraethia: A World of Magic, Memory, and Prophecy 🌌

I made a little moodboard to set the tone of Tenebraethia 🫶🏾

The moodboard above is a glimpse into the dark, mystical world of Tenebraethia, where ancient prophecies and ethereal landscapes shape the destinies of those who dwell within. This world is the backdrop of The Tryskelion Prophecy, a story of power, ambition, and the emotional scars that bind three sisters—the Noxthorne triplets—to their fate.

A Deeper Look into the World of Tenebraethia

This moodboard captures the essence of Tenebraethia through its rich color palette of deep purples, soft greens, and celestial whites. Each element was carefully chosen to reflect both the beauty and danger of the triplet's world, where time, memory, and the boundaries between life and death are manipulated...

The Triquetra and Celestial Symbols: The triquetra, a symbol of the interconnectedness of life, death, and dreams, looms large over Tenebraethia. This ancient symbol represents the balance each of the Noxthorne sisters must maintain in their realms.

The Moon and Misty Skies: Ever-changing and cyclical, the moon and the misty skies and peaks are a visual representation of Eirlys Noxthorne’s dominion over the Dreamworld, where reality and illusion intertwine. The moon also reflects the prophecies that govern their futures, casting a light on the path ahead, however shadowed it may be.

The Desert Landscape: The vast, dry desert calls to mind Vesmiren, the harsh and unforgiving land that Eirynia governs. In this world, time and memory are constantly shifting, much like the ever-changing sands beneath the cacti. The starkness of the desert represents Eirynia’s cold pragmatism and her calculated control over the flow of time, where moments can be stretched, altered, or erased at her will.

The Forest and Lightning: The thick, misty forest represents the mystery and natural beauty of Yrigmire, Eivey’s domain. Here, the balance between life and death is tenuous, with Eivey’s connection to necromancy and biomancy enabling her to manipulate both creation and decay. The lightning strikes that illuminate the

The Emotional Heart of Tenebraethia

The quote in the top right corner—“The strongest bonds aren’t formed by blood but by the scars we share”—encapsulates the emotional depth of The Tryskelion Prophecy. The Noxthorne sisters may be bound by blood, but it’s their shared scars, both emotional and physical, that form the backbone of their complex relationship. The scars from betrayals, ambitions, and hidden desires define them as much as their familial ties, creating a tense and fragile balance between love and resentment.

The Skull Symbol: A reminder of the ever-present shadow of death that looms over Tenebraethia, the skull represents the inevitable price each character pays for power. Whether it’s Eirlys’ burden of protecting the Dreamworld, Eirynia’s manipulations of history, or Eivey’s flirtations with necromantic power, death is a force they must all contend with.

A Realm Between Worlds

The soft, hazy gradient of purple and green skies evokes the surreal nature of Tenebraethia, a place where the metaphysical world constantly bleeds into the physical. This balance is especially precarious in Slumfjord Valleys, where the Dreamworld and waking world coexist in a perpetual fog. The soft, surreal tones in my moodboard represent the dreamlike quality of this land, where reality is never quite stable, and dreams can both guide and mislead.

What Lies Ahead in the Prophecy?

The moodboard offers a visual snapshot of the world, but The Tryskelion Prophecy itself promises much more. The sisters’ journey will take you deeper into this beautifully fractured world, exploring the moral ambiguity of power, the weight of prophecy, and the unbreakable yet fragile bonds between family.

A notable feature of Tenebraethia is, without a doubt, the mist that blankets the land, almost like it's alive—constantly shifting, hiding, and revealing pieces of the world as if it knows more than the people walking through it. What I love about the mist is its mystery. It's not just a physical phenomenon; it has these deeper, almost sentient properties that respond to emotions and dreams. As the story progresses, I plan to dive deeper into what the mist truly is and how it ties into the greater magic and consciousness of Tenebraethia. I want it to feel like more than just a setting—almost like another character in the world.

My favorite thing about Tenebraethia, though, is the way the land allows you to physically cross the veil between reality and your subconscious. For me, this is where the story becomes most exciting. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that dreams and subconscious thoughts aren’t just something in your mind but something you can actually experience and confront. In Tenebraethia, it’s possible to step into this otherworld, to wander through your dreams, face the parts of yourself you keep hidden, and engage with your mind in a way that’s tangible. It’s that blend of psychological and physical journeying that I find really inspiring to write—it pushes me to explore my characters more deeply and creatively, bringing their inner conflicts to life in unexpected ways.

i’m so late to reply to this!!!! i sorry but let’s finally meet the noxthorne triumvirate 🫶🏾 this excerpt is from the first thought dump i ever had for these girls. i've grown to hold them so near and dear to my heart so without further ado I finally introduce…

The bond between the Noxthorne triplets is as deep and complicated as the metaphysical realms they each control. Each sister’s personality reflects not only their dominion over the Slumfjord, Memory, and Purgatory but also their intricate relationships—harmonious and strained. Together, they form a triumvirate of strength and conflict, constantly juggling their roles, powers, and personal struggles.

𝗘𝗶𝗿𝘆𝗹𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘅𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲—𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻 & 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗳𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗱

As the eldest, she carries the burden of responsibility more heavily than her sisters, which shows in the quiet, reflective way she carries herself. Her connection to the Slumfjord Realm gives her a contemplative, almost distant aura as if part of her mind wanders through the mists of dreams. Her magenta eyes glow faintly, giving away her constant connection to realms beyond the waking world.

Her aloofness can make her seem rather detached from the world, there are moments when Eirynia and Eivey joke that Eirlys is more comfortable among her Mistkin than with people. But her silence isn’t distance—it’s calculation. She listens, observes, and processes more than she speaks. When she finally does, her words hold the weight of someone who sees far more than the surface.

Eirlys’ dreamlike glow, along with her deep brown skin that absorbs and reflects light like the moonlit earth, makes her seem otherworldly. But it’s her sense of humor, quiet but sharp, that occasionally cracks through her composed exterior—especially when she’s around her sisters. Though burdened with the responsibility of holding the Dreamworld together, Eirlys hasn’t lost her ability to laugh, especially at Eirynia’s reckless nature or Eivey’s chaotic approach to life.

𝗘𝗶𝗿𝘆𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗡𝗼𝘅𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲—𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝘆𝗻𝗶𝗰, 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆

Eirynia’s rich mahogany skin, weathered and kissed by the Vesmiren desert sun, reflects the depth of her power over memory and time. She carries the weight of all that has been and all that could be, but unlike Eirlys, she doesn’t hide her weariness. Her heterochromatic eyes—one brown, one magenta—are piercing, always assessing, as if she’s searching for a way to bend the present to her will. Where Eirlys is contemplative, Eirynia is action-oriented, often charging ahead before fully thinking things through. And that’s where the tension between the two typically arises.

Her humor is sharp, almost incisive, but it’s just her way of deflecting the strain of her duty-laden life. The bond between Eirynia and her sisters has always been fraught with conflict, particularly with Eirlys. They frequently clash—Eirynia’s bold, risk-taking tendencies versus Eirlys’ more rigid approach—but they’re learning to navigate these arguments with a familiarity only sisters share.

Eirynia is never above making jabs at Eirlys for her “perfect” control or teasing Eivey for her experimental recklessness. Yet beneath the sarcasm lies a deep respect and value for her sisters' abilities. For not for them, she would be eternally lost to the sands.

Her secret affair with Andaris, on the other hand has added a layer of complexity to her life that she keeps hidden, but the bond she has with his twins, Ymir and Ymani, is genuine. She loves them deeply, even if the relationship with their father is tangled in secrets and half-truths. The danger of Pilar discovering the affair lingers in the back of Eirynia’s mind, but she wears her defiance like armor. She’s lived her life bending time and memory to her will—what’s one more secret?

𝗘𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘅𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲—𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱

Eivey has a deep and rich complexion, similar to the fertile soil of Yrigmire after a storm. It reflects her raw vitality in her dominion over life and death. Her consistency in her interactions and benevolence towards the people of Tenebraethia set her apart from her more isolated sisters, who do not interact with the civilians. She is the one who echoes the people's concerns about resources and economics.

While her sisters bear the weight of their responsibilities differently, Eivey wears hers with a chaotic joy that unsettles and comforts those around her. Her heterochromatic eyes—one glowing with magenta hues, the other a warm brown, both uniquely tying her to her marshlands of biomancy and necromantic energy alike.—reveal her duality. She’s full of life, laughter, and reckless energy, but there’s a darkness to her power that she’s never fully mastered.

Though her work with necromancy is dangerous and secretive, Eivey isn’t one to brood over it. She shares her love of life and death with her wife, Brysa, who grounds her when her experiments push the boundaries too far. But even Brys is not aware of the full extent of what Ve has been dabbling in, especially the reanimation experiments. Eivey knows it’s risky, but it’s always about pushing limits and seeing how far she can go before the balance tips too far.

Her humor is the glue that often keeps the sisters from fracturing entirely. Eivey is quick to diffuse tense moments with a joke or a wild idea; her laughter is infectious, and her spirit is hard to tame. It’s not unusual for her to suggest the more reckless course of action with a grin, only to have Eirlys immediately reject it, rolling her eyes. Eirynia, however, tends to entertain her sister’s wild ideas a little longer—if only for the amusement of watching them inevitably go awry.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀

Together, the Noxthorne sisters present a formidable, albeit fractured, front. Their bond is as deep as the realms they govern, but it’s strained by years of secrets, personal ambitions, and conflicting ideologies.

Eirlys, the ever-watchful eldest, regularly tries to control the chaos in which her younger sisters seem to thrive. Eirynia’s sharp wit and tendency to manipulate the past often clash with Eirlys’ calculated restraint. Eivey, always the wildcard, stirs the pot, but she’s also the one who can bring a smile to her sisters’ faces when things get too heavy.

Despite their differences, there’s an unspoken understanding between them. They’ve fought each other as regularly as they’ve fought for each other, but they know they are stronger together.

When the time comes to safeguard Tenebraethia, fulfill the prophecy, and confront Pilar's ominous deceits, their unification will provide them with the resilience they need to face the inevitable. But the cracks in their bond are always present. Eirlys, carrying the weight of her pregnancy, keeps her worries about Tariaun’s return to herself.

Eirynia, bound by her secrets with Andaris, struggles to control her life and the memories she manipulates. And Eivey, ever the experimenter, walks a fine line between life and death, her reanimation experiments pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable.

When the prophecy unfolds, the realms of Dream, Memory, and Purgatory will not be the only stakes—they will also be the bond between the sisters themselves. While they might laugh and joke in the face of danger, each knows their decisions could tear them apart irreversibly.

I've always wanted to write a story about three sisters, each dominating a unique and mystical power.

The dreamworld I've been establishing for Eirlys, the memory and time manipulation techniques for Eirinia, and my spin on life/death cycle magic for Eivey are chefs' kisses.
