hi gang! i know it's been,,,,, literally years since i started working on my fairy tail rewrite but i do want to assure anyone still interested that it is still something i'm working on. however, perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot has changed since i first started the project, so i wanted to give some updates on things people have expressed interest in in the past:

-i toyed with the idea of aro/ace erza for a while and while i do genuinely love the concept, i ultimately decided that it wouldn't really fit into what i want to do with her character. so tragically i can't fulfill this initial idea. i'm a little disappointed myself tbh but i actually really like what i came up with for her part of the story, so... hope this wasn't what anyone was looking forward to the most.

-when i first mentioned rewriting ft, i said there'd be no fanservice. however, having thought about it for some time, fairy tail is a series where somewhat dirty jokes have been since the start, and i don't think it's entirely fair to get rid of it altogether just bc the last couple of arcs forgot to do anything else. i will however promise that no one is going to be less important than their own boobs.

-the relationship between gajeel and team shadowgear will absolutely still be important, but i don't intend to put gajeel or levy in a relationship with anyone, including each other. this isn't really about whether i like the ships involved or not; it's just that i actually ended up putting a bit more of a spotlight on this little faction than i'd intended to (tbh i'd been pretty sure gajeel and levy would have somewhat more minor roles, but fortunately it looks like they'll stay major supporting characters)

-lucy and her family are going to be marginally more complicated than what we got in canon, and while i don't plan to give away too much too soon, there might be some hints towards what's really going on there significantly before i actually unveil my masterpiece (i am ngl so so SO happy with my version of the heartfilia family. i feel like it's both somewhat original and also fits within the world of fairy tail. idk if anyone else is going to be enjoying keeping up with the heartfilias as much as me but i sure hope so. whoa boy)

-natsu spends a lot more time looking for igneel. not like 100% absolutely dedicated nothing else matters or anything (bc that's just not natsu), but it is his main motivation throughout a good chunk of the story, so i'm hoping to bring that into play a bit more.

-i've been pretty clear on this part since the beginning, but ultear and siegrain are going to play a much bigger role in the early parts of the story. this is both bc i adore their dynamic and bc crime sorcière is unfortunately not going to happen. just getting that part out of the way now. as much as i adore them, it just doesn't work here. i don't intend for them to usurp the story or anything, but they definitely have a much bigger and more direct impact on the plot. also like reasons for doing things and better publicity than most of the rest of the council.

-i simply am not going to have the time to give natsu's parents the screentime they deserve, but i promise to give them as much as i possibly can. unfortunately, they really don't matter all that much in term's of natsu or zeref's parts in the story, but there are a couple of other characters with fairly strong ties to them, so it's not like i'm going to ignore them entirely

-cubellios is and will forever remain a snake. hiss hiss

-none of the other manga side stories (including 100 year quest) are going to be taken into account whatsoever. i simply do not care <3

-zeref and mavis's relationship is deeply, DEEPLY important to the plot, but it absolutely isn't romantic at all, so sorry if you were hoping it would be. also i tried my best to make mavis significantly more interesting (plus yuriy, warrod, and precht. especially precht)

-none of the big 4 ships will happen. this isn't due to me not liking them for the most part (i mean, i don't but tbh that really isn't relevant here; i have no problem with writing for ships i don't ship myself if it works with the story), it's either bc it doesn't fit into these versions of the characters or it just didn't end up happening. i know this is gonna put some people off, but i hope you'll give it a try anyway once it's done; i ended up trying out a few things i'd never thought about before and really enjoying them, so hopefully i won't be alone in that.

-the celestial spirits are currently one of my bigger roadblocks writing-wise bc while they're also very important to the story, they rarely get enough screentime to showcase anything other than their powers and One Quirky Trait. and there are so dang many of them; it's kinda hard to balance. however, i know what i want to do with them in the long run, so it's more a matter of getting them there and not having them effectively turn into lucy's somewhat talkative pokémon. also, the spirits aren't property– they've made a contract with their wielder, and this is very very relevant. they are also not human. you may want to keep those two things in mind.

-if a character dies and you see their body and their body is definitely 100% checked-their-pulse-and-tried-cpr dead, that character is dead. it's a fantasy story, so i'm not going to pretend there's no possible way to un-die, but i will say this: consider whether or not dying a likely-traumatic death and then coming back is a good thing.

-there will be ocs. this is basically unavoidable due to what few changes i've made, but i'm hoping they'll at least be enjoyable ocs. most of them shouldn't be relevant for a while anyway

-there are, and i cannot stress this enough, characters that may for some reason have something to gain from lying to the heroes. or to other villains. or to themselves. characters lie, or twist the truth, or are wrong, or a bajillion other things.

-whoever you're expecting the final badguy to be, you're wrong

-lastly, and this is easily the most important, i have completely changed irene's character design to one of mashima's concept art versions of her. if you've never seen it, here's the piece of that sketch collection i'm talking about:

ok! for this, i think i'm gonna go with... early bleach - how about chad's perception of rukia's disappearance? here we go!

Whatever it is that happens, it happens overnight. Or, perhaps, over the span of a few weeks. It's hard to say. One day Sado is minding his own business, and the next he's trying to save a parakeet from invisible monsters. Ichigo can see them, but Ichigo can see a lot of things that Sado can't. And then there's a bunch of them, and he has to protect Ichigo's kid sister, and his arm does something weird, and then mostly all he can think is "huh" and "ow".

He wakes up in a candy shop with a guy in a hat making wisecracks, and those two smart kids from the crafts group are there, and so is Ichigo and the transfer student who'd helped him beat up the first invisible monster. Not so invisible anymore, though. Kuchiki doesn't explain much, but apparently the crafts girl is the one who healed him. Inoue, he's pretty sure. He hadn't known she could do that. Apparently, neither had she.

He takes a few days to think everything over - he has questions, that's for sure, but Ichigo had also been injured and he vaguely recalls having heard Kuchiki talk about erasing memories at one point, so it's probably best to let things settle first. Just... give everyone some room to breathe.

When he finally arrives at school with the intention of talking to Ichigo, Ichigo is nowhere to be found. Neither are Kuchiki or the crafts guy (Iwada? Ishida? Something with "stone" in it). Inoue seems just as confused as him, but he doesn't know her to well, so he decides to ask Asano first.

"Have you seen Ichigo?" Asano shrieks and jumps, flailing. Sado doesn't take offense - it's honestly be weirder if Asano had a normal reaction.

"Whoa, Sado, my man, don't sneak up on me like that!"

"He didn't," Kojima says. "Asano-san is just oblivious."

"Am not!" Asano argues. "And drop that kind of talk! I'm no stranger, Mizuiro, I'm Keigo! I know you know my name!" Kojima blinks at him.

"Is that so? Sado-kun, do you know this strange man?" Asano wails, clutching his chest at his friend's perceived betrayal. Under normal circumstances, Sado might play along. But there's been an unpleasant tightness in his gut since he woke up that morning, and it's not getting any better.

"I really need to know if you've seen Ichigo," he says. "I need to talk to him. Asano and Kojima both look somewhat surprised, and Sado hopes he didn't come off as rude. Japanese is technically his first language, but he spoken Spanish more often growing up, and levels of politeness can be hard to keep track of.

"Um, I was actually wondering that too?" Looking over his shoulder, Sado sees Inoue walking towards them. "I just... I haven't seen him at all today, and he's usually pretty easy to find, y'know? I went to ask Ishida-kun, but Kunieda-san said she hasn't seen him, and they study together sometimes, so I thought she'd know, but..." Inoue pauses, glancing uncomfortably between the three of them. "I haven't seen Kuchiki-san today at all either."

"Kunieda..." Asano repeats. "Oh, the track girl? She got number two on the exams! Between you and Ishida, right, Inoue?" Inoue nods, blushing slightly. "Right, right," Asano continues, "so, uh, who's Kuchiki?" And Sado feels his blood run cold.

"Kuchiki," he repeats, frowning at Asano. "The transfer student who's been hanging out with Ichigo." Asano blinks.

"There's a new student? Cool! He's not one of you smart types, is he?" Kojima rolls his eyes at that.

"I'd prefer an older woman, but if Asano-san likes that sort of person..."

"That's not how it is! And why would an older woman be in a high school!" The two continue their banter, and Sado turns to look at Inoue. She's chewing on her lip.

"Them too... Sado-kun, you remember Kuchiki-san, right? So..." Inoue hesitates. "How come no one else does?"

Write a fic where Vegeta opens up to Bulma.

tiny little oneshot, here we go!

“We never talk,” Bulma says one night. Vegeta stares at her. She waits for a response, but he seems to be hoping that she’ll stop being there if he just squints enough. Alas, many men had tried such tactics before and failed (typically at board meetings, bleh). “We never talk.”

“I heard you the first time.” Vegeta informs her. “We talk all the time.”

“We argue all the time,” Bulma corrects.

“Yes. That is talking. The best kind.”

She has to fight to keep from rolling her eyes. Goku had never been overly fond of arguments, as far as she knew, but Vegeta enjoyed every form of fighting, including verbal. She couldn’t help but think that that was why he’d taken interest in her at all - she found it very unlikely that Saiyan beauty standards were anything like humans.

“I mean an actual conversation. About– I don’t know, little things.” She can’t actually think of anything they should talk about. Basic small talk 101, why hast thou forsaken me?

“Little things?” Vegeta repeats, frowning. It’s probably an Earth idiom of sorts, but he’s still not familiar enough with the language to be certain, so he decides to take it literally (partly because her reactions are amusing, and partly because perhaps then they can just argue and call it a night). “Your father’s shoulder creature is rather minuscule.”

“So are you, jackass,” Bulma snaps, gleefully lording her half a centimeter over him. Unfortunately, she’s aware of what he’s trying to do, so she takes a deep breath and calms herself. “No, like, we should get to know each other. In a less physical sense. Seriously, I know more about your dick than who you are as a person.”

A good response, Bulma thinks, would have been “isn’t that the part you like best”, but Vegeta never responded well to sex jokes. He just turned red and spluttered a lot– and he’s true to that now.

“Woman– I– you– gah!” His face is brighter than an emergency siren, and Bulma bursts out laughing before a thought occurs to her.

“Hey, how come jokes like that bother you so much?” she asks suddenly. “Most guys I know only get embarrassed a little, or they like that kind of humor too. Or they don’t really get it at all.” Vegeta frowns.

“It’s– I don’t understand why it’s even funny,” he admits after a moment. “Why are humans so obsessed with such vulgar things?” Bulma shrugs.

“There’s probably reasons, but that’s not my field of expertise.” She considers offering to stop making those jokes altogether, but Vegeta would probably be offended by that. It’s not really easy to be nice to him. “Are you saying you’ve never met another species that jokes like that?”

“I avoided as many people in Frieza’s army as I possibly could,” Vegeta says flatly. “And any planets I went to.... well, it’s not like I was there to chat with the residents.” Right. The genocide thing. Bulma generally tried not to think about that, but given how big a part of Vegeta’s life it was, it’s almost impossible to avoid. “Do– do you regret any of it?” She asks before she can stop herself.

“No.” Vegeta’s answer comes instantly, and Bulma can’t find a shadow of guilt anywhere in his features. If anything, he seems surprised by the question. “Why would I? Are you asking because you feel guilty for sleeping with me? on their behalf? They would have died anyway.” Bulma blinks. She hadn’t been aware of it, but perhaps she did feel guilty for sleeping with a man who’d taken so many lives. She doesn’t really know what to do about it, though, so she just flops down on his bed.

“This is why I wish you’d talk to me,” she says at the ceiling. “There’s so much about you I don’t understand. Maybe it’s just the scientist in me, but–”

“You are an engineer,” Vegeta says, blinking. “Are you comparing me to a machine?” Bulma snorts.

“Everything’s personal with you, huh?” She muses. “I wish you were a machine; then I’d be able to figure you out in no time.” He doesn’t respond, so she lies there and waits for him to tell her to leave. He’s never let her stay after sex, which is fine. That’s all it is, after all. But he remains silent, so eventually she stands to leave on her own.

As she nears the door, she hears him finally speak.

“...Nappa and Raditz made jokes like that, sometimes,” he says, so quietly that she’s not even sure he meant to say it aloud at all. “It’s not a Saiyan thing, I don’t think. I just– I never–” He cuts himself off and rolls over, facing away from her. “Never mind.”

“Were you close?” Bulma asks, hand hovering above the doorknob. She can’t see his face, but she can imagine him staring out the window at the night sky, comparing Earth’s constellations to the ones he seen on other planets. It might just be her imagination, though.

“...I don’t know,” Vegeta admits. “If we were, it was a long time ago.” She doesn’t ask if he regrets anything about his old partners. She’s not sure she wants to know the answer.

“Goodnight, then,” she says, as cheerfully as she can. Just before the door closes, she thinks she hears him say it back.

Didn’t you say something long ago about rewriting Fairy Tail? That please.

i’m still working on it, actually!! but there’s. a lot to do, and i’ve still only got the bare bones of an outline done. if it weren’t for wilderness, i might not even have that....

but! it’s definitely not an abandoned idea! i just have to make sure it’s fully fleshed out and all. i can’t do what i’ve done up til now and just make stuff up as i go along - not only am i trying to become more professional as a writer, but doing that here would be someone hypocritical as that’s one of my biggest issues with the original fairy tail series.

i do have a very, very rough draft of the first couple of chapters planned out, but i was in wilderness when i wrote it, so i only have a little of that on my computer.

what i can tell you about the rewrite is this: the initial changes are pretty slow. most of the first two arcs (macao and daybreak) are more or less the same, with only a few things altered and some added world-building. the first chapter is basically just a redone version of the first chapter of the manga, with very little changed that affects the overall story.

the first major difference comes in chapter two, and the first drastic change in the storyline happens in chapter five.

so i’ve planned out quite a bit, as you can see, but i don’t want to start putting anything out there until more of it is tied together. i want to have the first three arcs written up before i start posting anything (don’t worry, that’s only seven chapters), just to get a feel for things. as it goes on, the story gets bigger, and i don’t want to get overwhelmed and burn myself out.

tldr: i have no intentions of abandoning ftr! but it’s probably gonna be a bit before i have anything to show for it
