'We've come to worship death.
I used to wake up and look at myself in the mirror, and be disappointed that I hadn't quickened in my sleep.
Going to Trevean seemed so much easier than going on living.' - ekoria [to bashir]

Ekoria - 1b What is their secret?
Ekoria was at the very edge of the desert looking out. She was far away enough from the city that the sounds were dulled to a mild ambiance but close enough that if a sand worm did come she could run to safety. It was unlikely though, the worms never came this close to the city. The city itself was butting up against a huge mountain and the worms didn’t like hard rock. She sat comfortably on the dune, a canteen on one side of her, and a mug of spiced coffee on the other. An umbrella of sorts she had gotten from the capital city of the verse was buried into the ground, providing her with shade. She wore a linen wrap around her head and neck and her face mask hung off her neck. She had goggles on to protect her eyes from the blaring sun. She didn’t have one of those fancy survival suit the noble and fremen wore, so this was as far as she could go. It was hot, nasty hot but the shade provided by the umbrella would protect her as long as she stayed hydrated, which the coffee would not do, but she cared little. She was young and foolish. She pulled a cheese bun out of her sack and began to eat it as she stared out at the horizon. Ekoria had been born far from Arakis on a world where there were still slaves. Her people believed in the Orange bible. The words in the ancient text did little to comfort her or spark belief in her. It wasn’t until her boss had first brought her to Arakis and she learned of the fremen that she had any curiosity in something more the physical. She found their philosophy on life interesting. Further research had only deepened her curiosity. She had read the prophecy of the sleeper awakening. She wasn’t sure if she believed it or not, but she longed to understand the fremen philosophy better. Something about it had sparked something within her. It was something she hid from her boss and her crew. She didn’t want them to react strangely or badly. Religion, spirituality, and philosophy had no place in a smuggler’s life. But things were changing in the verse. The Harknonens had lost control of Arakis and now the Atreides family was preparing to take over. The very idea! Stealing from Harknonens was all well and fine, but the Atreides house was a just one that looked after its people. Did it mean they would stop smuggling spice? She guessed probably not. They kept their spice smuggling down to only a few crates at a time, sometimes only one. Any more would draw too much attention. The merchants’ guild ignored them because they didn’t greatly affect them. Let the smugglers have their crumbs, that was their philosophy. She took a sip of her spiced coffee and took a bite of her bread as she watched the mirages appear and disappear. “Arakis, you are like no other planet. You breathe and live like no other world” she said to herself.
1a Ekoria - Who is round that Corner?
Ekoria is in the pre-Dune verse (so the point up to the Atreides takeover of Arakis). She was in the large marketplace after unloading the goods they had smuggled from across the universe. She had already done her duty and was walking through the market with a tablet full of credits. She intended to pick up a few things before they left in the morning for their next job. For her crew, it was not about the money. It was about sticking it to the system, stealing from under the nose of the wealthy who used the working class as slaves. The Imperium was nothing more than a money-hungry beast that consumed. She had already been to the bath house. It was nice, feeling clean and fresh. Her hair was combed and free. She felt like a woman again. Her clothes had been cleaned while she was bathing and they smelled like fresh herbs. Let the boys tease her, she could care less. Having a large, hot bath that she could completely submerge in was not something she had growing up. They had at best, a large bowl and bathed standing up, when the wealthy let them have decent water rations. The marketplace was loud with activity. Sellers called their wares, animals of all kind squeezed past her, some led by owners, some not. There were people from all over the Imperium. She loved places like this. She was smiling to herself and lost in her thoughts when she rounded the corner and ran into a Harknonen, nearly knocking them both over, her face and body crashing into his. He frowned and growled than shoved her back hard. Ekoria frowned at him in return and her eyes darkened. “Watch where you are going wench”. Ekoria looked at him like an angry hunting cat. She hated Harknonens. He had several guards with him, the fight would not end well. She stepped aside reluctantly. He made a noise in his throat and looked at her one more time before heading back on his way. Ekoria waited till we was out of sight and then grabbed her communicator. “Boss” she called on it. There were several minutes of static and then he responded, “What is it Ekoria?” “Do we feel like ripping off a Harkonen today?” she asked with a grin.

Writing Character Profiles - Additional Questions 1. If your character has a job, is he or she good at it? Does he or she like it? Smuggler, she is decent at it. 2. What are your character’s bad habits? Having to say something to rich people when she is on heighliners. 3. If you asked about his or her greatest dream, what would your character tell you? What kind of person does your character wish he or she could be? What is stopping him or her? To actually do something about the wealthy class using the middle class as slaves. It’s one thing to smuggle for a living, but to be an activist (I don’t want to use the proper term as I don’t need my blog deleted by idiots who won’t read the context) will draw very bad attention and she could end up far worse than just a term on the prison planet. It has been a lot of ups and downs with some regret, but she has had some satisfying moments, 14. In what situation would your character become violent? To defend herself. 15.
