I know you guys aren't in canada, but I was sick of netflix’s tv series  and document choices so I chose to watch a random sci fi movie I’ve never head of, and it was amazing. It is called Beyond White Space. It is a better version of moby dick, much better than the book. I haven’t finished it yet, husband had to go out so going to finish it. You guys have to watch it.

New Writing Project

Warhammer recently re-released the genestealer army and I bought the book and I fell in love with the fluff (lore). I decided to do a writing project. Basically, the genestealer is a tyranid (an alien spices that feeds off other creatures) that sends out one of it’s own to infiltrate a populace. The tyranid has a tube that can pass genetic material through and can infect any sentient species and turn it into a loyal follow.

What is really beautiful about the genestealer cult is they target downtrodden and discriminated populations. Common laborers of the 40k universe are treated pretty badly. They are supposed to accept their lot in life and know their work is good for the Imperium and they should feel honored and motivated to do their job while they are given meager food, housing, and essentials. Think of the House Harkonen if you read the Dune books (the movie doesn’t really showcase that much).

In comes the genestealer cult that talks about the saviors beyond the stars and promises a new hope and a real meaning to their life. They have helped overthrow a few worlds with cruel masters. So on one hand, the cult is like this underdog. But when the tyranid fleet arrives and the world, the genestealers become fodder along with everyone else. It is a beautiful tragedy.

I have some planning to do before I can start. I was never that big into warhammer before this. I love beastmen and night haunts and have models, but when I read the genestealer book I lost my heart. It is going to be fun writing them. I have to pick the setting. There are a few options or I could create my own world so I have freedom to do what I want.

Warhammer is a male dominated game system and the books reflect that. I look forward to mixing it up a little. There will be romance, drama, tragedy, everything we love in our Dune novels. I find that genestealer cult is mad max meets dune with a seasoning of Lovecraft for fun. This will not affect my other writing stuff.

Update on Mun’s Life

So I got diagnosed with IBS FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

Oh my god. I can finally tell all those doctors who said “drink more water” to go up a creek. My IBS has nothing to do with water intake or my diet. Ugh. In. Your. Face. My IBS is caused by my uterus. Apparently the week before my cycle it is pressing on my intestines and colon  causing my pain. They want to put me on birth control but I hesitated because I’ve never taken it.

I decided to try it. I am a bit nervous because of the side effects. I am going to probably take the shot, should it be available in Canada. I have adhd so trying to get me to remember meds is impossible. The shot is also recommended for iron deficiency.

I lost my passion and zest for life when I got sick with iron deficiency anemia and in 2 1/2 years I haven’t done much but write a little and be a couch potato. I am 32, I am ready to get my life back. The more and more I think about the possible side effects of the shot, I think about how I have no motivation or passion anymore. I think it is worth taking the risk. I am going to see the doctor in a week and a half and asking for it, I don’t know if I need to special order it or go to one of our sexual health clinics. I unfortunately do have minor lab coat syndrome (all it is, is you have minor physical reactions to certain medical things. Shortness of breath, sweating, feeling like you are faint. It sounds worse than it is. Taking a loved one and doing something relaxing before and after helps) so I likely will have a little reaction. I do when I have the flu shot (did you know anxiety can cause temporary facial numbness? The brain is so weird!)

I am pretty ready though. I miss my passion. I miss my eagerness to explore life.

Dark Slope Streaks Split on Mars : What is creating these dark streaks on Mars? No one is sure. Candidates include dust avalanches, evaporating dry ice sleds, and liquid water flows. What is clear is that the streaks occur through light surface dust and expose a deeper dark layer. Similar streaks have been photographed on Mars for years and are one of the few surface features that change their appearance seasonally. Particularly interesting here is that larger streaks split into smaller streaks further down the slope. The featured image was taken by the HiRISE camera on board the Mars-orbiting Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) several months ago. The polar vortex is about to hit and I urge you to prepare as best you can. FEMA is already in my area (central KY) and schools have already closed for the rest of the week due to the wind chill factor being -20 Fahrenheit and I know a lot of places are going to have even more extreme conditions.

• Preheat •

We’ve been advised to “preheat” our homes in case of power outages. This means to go ahead and turn the heat up more than you normally would. If you can afford to do this, I know some people keep it cool in their homes because heat is expensive and not everyone has fireplaces, please consider it.

• Preheat option two •

Another heating option is turning your oven on and leaving the oven door cracked, just be careful, and sleep in the living room with the bedroom doors closed.

• Prevent frozen pipes •

Open your cabinet doors as cabinets tend to be cooler than the rest of the living areas and turn the faucets on, even just dripping will help.

• Power outage food •

I know it’s cliche but there’s a reason why people stock up on bread when severe weather is expected. Bread, lunch meat, and cheese are pretty good staples. Cold foods that don’t need heat are always an option because you can put them near a window or outside in a cooler or freezer bag to keep from spoiling.

• Safety •

Keep going outside to a minimum.

Layer warm clothes.

Cuddle pets or friends and family to conserve body heat.

If you have an electric blanket: turn it on the highest setting even if the electric hasn’t gone out but is a possibility. It’ll stay warm for a while if the power does go out.

If you have a crock pot: make a pot of soup on the stove then pour it into the crock pot and turn it on to keep it warm in case the power goes out. It might not stay warm for long but it doesn’t hurt to try so you can have a warm meal.

If you seriously suspect hypothermia, please get help immediately.

Also… for those who can afford it, get a jumpbox with an A/C inverter.  I’ll explain.

A “jumpbox” is basically a megabattery that is used to jumpstart dead car batteries. A really good one also has places to plug normal electrical cords, usb chargers, and/or those chargers that work in your car.  (I’m old enough to call them “cigarette lighters”, which is actually what they were originally.)  Mine has all of those AND an air pump, and cost about a hundred bucks.

Everyone who can afford it should have one of these things in their car.  And in a situation like this, you can bring it in your house, make sure it’s fully charged, and use it as a backup.  Run a hot plate, an electric kettle, power a CPAP machine, keep your phone charged. One one memorable occasion I used it to power my laptop and cellular modem so I could continue to telecommute during a power outage, and it only drained about 10% over eight hours.  (I would imagine that it would drain a space heater pretty fast, though, so test that before you depend on it.)
