Drew my Kingmaker team as a tribute to this game :)
I'm a little late because Kingmaker's birthday was two days ago. But I drew them for an indecently long time. Kingmaker has always been associated with early autumn for me, so I'm enjoying playing it now.
ekun appreciation post
gaming queer month 2026: The queer romances I wish I could have had
Morrigan (Dragon Age Origins) (I still romance her with the mod, but still…)
Cassandra (Dragon Age Inquisition) (just cruel that I cannot romance her with a woman)
Gobbet (Shadowrun Hong Kong) (okay, maybe it would have not improved the game too much as I love the game already, but how I would have enjoyed romancing Gobbet, only her as the only romance of the game would have worked so well)
Iorveth (The Witcher) (it would have improved my enjoyment of The Witcher 2 of about 300%)
Jaethal (Pathfinder Kingmaker) (there is kind of a canon ending with her, but not a full romance)
Snell (Esoteric Ebb) (I can see from the number of art that this is a popular opinion)
Serafin (Citizen Sleeper 2) (I was honestly heartbroken at the absence of Serafin romance as the relationship with him is so important)
Likho (Dreamfall Chapters) (this one really hurts my heart because Kian and Likho are both gay, they have an enemies to friends story and end up living together)
Pallegina (Pillars of Eternity) (cruel and unusual punishment that I cannot romance her at all)
Khama (with Lo Pheng) (Ash of Gods) (Lo Pheng and Khama already have such an intriguing enemies to protector relationship, they overcame so much, why can't they get married. I should play it again and write fanfics for myself)
Death Knight (Beyond Divinity) (the only thing that could save this game would be turning it into a gay comedy of errors)
Vivienne (Dragon Age Inquisition) (always my divine, and while I do not mind that we cannot romance her, I also feel like Dragon Age never had a character like her romancable before, someone who had such a unique perspective on the mage templars conflict but also was so unashamedly ambitious. It would have been such a good romance, especially if starting just as a way to get close to power - yes, I admit it, I love romances that start as calculating moves and then turn into real feelings!)
Tharael (Enderal) (Maybe not necessarily romance, but I wish we could have had a closer friendship with him, and him as a companion)
Ekundayo (Pathfinder Kingmaker) (I feel like this game misses complex queer male characters. I love Regongar, but I wish we could have also romanced Ekundayo and seen a more angsty serious goal driven character through a romantic arc after having abandoned every hope and desire for romance)
Solas (Dragon Age The Veilguard) (Solas only and specifically in The Veilguard)
Two illustrations of Sek and his husband Ekundayo + a 2-page comic now on my Patreon. I love you Tuvok's gay son <3
Ekun: *describes his family's violent grisly deaths*
Harrim:
One thing I like about Ekundayo in contrast to most other Owlcat companions is that no, he doesn't just open up immediately. I'll admit replaying Kingmaker it hit me how fast your party members open up if you talk to them.
To be sure there's some great moments, like Valerie unloading her frustrations about everyone trying to foist a destiny onto her or Tristian discussing redemptive philosophy (with deliciously foreshadowy subtext), but narratively it feels like it's too soon for dialogues that seem to imply that you've had time to become friends. It does let you understand their characters quickly, though I think it does cost some of the authenticity of going back to talk to them as the story progresses, even if they benchwarm most of the adventure.
Ekundayo from Pathfinder: Kingmaker
"A humble and reserved carpenter, Ekundayo's life changed to the worse when the troll invasion led to the death of his family. With a bow in hand and a wolf companion by his side, he wishes to make the trolls pay in blood."
