Is me discussing the Japanese popular music some sort of a tribute to a couple of titans from this country? Yes, you could say something like this as I did decide to discuss the Japanese mainstream to honor both Takahashi and Sakamoto. The former, in particular, seemed to be a bit underappreciated. I mean, his Yellow Magic Orchestra peers had their own intriguing solo careers, yet his was not bad either. He does remind me of Bryan Ferry, had the latter been a drummer. I know, I know, we can make a lot of fun about the observation, yet he did bring a similar suave sophistication to the proceedings of the groups he was in. Moreover, the records he did on his own showed he was just as versatile as Sakamoto and Hosono.
