the house was loud in the way it always got whenever the whole group piled into it at once.

there were half-empty soda cans on every available surface. puffer was arguing passionately about which superhero movie had the best final battle, while pezzy kept interrupting just to annoy him. and through all of it, jaime kept looking at you, not subtly, either.

every few minutes, you’d catch him staring from across the room with that soft, helpless expression he only got around you now. as if he still couldn’t fully believe this was real. that you were real.

you sat cross-legged on the couch, laughing at something puffer said when you noticed him hovering nearby again.

“You good?” you teased quietly.

jaime blinked like you’d pulled him out of a trance. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m good.”

you giggled, raising an eyebrow at him, “you’ve been staring at me for like twenty minutes.”

“can you blame me?” he replied, giving a light shrug with an almost smug smile. heat rushed into your face immediately.

jaime grinned without even looking away from you. “you’ll survive.”

that got a chorus of fake gagging noises thrown his way, but he didn’t care. because tonight was different. after months of dancing around feelings and lingering touches and “accidental” sleepovers and everyone already knowing before either of you admitted it.

you were finally official. not “kind of.” not “it’s complicated.” not hidden behind jokes and almost-confessions. his. and he was yours.

later, once the noise died down a little and everyone migrated toward games in the living room, jaime disappeared into the hallway with his phone in his hand.

“what’re you doing?” you asked.

“i know.” jaime sighed.

instead of answering, he reached for your wrist and gently pulled you closer until you were standing between his knees where he sat on the edge of the bed.

your heartbeat stumbled. jaime lifted his phone, angling it toward both of you. you barely had time to register the camera before he turned his head and pressed a kiss against your cheek. not quick, not joking, but slow enough that warmth bloomed all the way through you.

and when you looked at him afterward? the expression on his face nearly ruined you. like he’d found something precious, like he was looking at someone he wanted to remember forever.

his eyes stayed fixed on you instead of the camera, soft and completely lovestruck, mouth curled into the faintest smile against your skin. you laughed quietly, flustered. “jai…”

“what?” he asked innocently.

you chuckled, hands fidgeting at your side, “you’re looking at me weird.”

“jesus...” you sighed, shaking your head as if you were annoyed, but you could barely hold back the smile that pursed on your lips.

jaime shrugged once more with a hint of nonchalance, “you love it.”

unfortunately, he was right. he snapped a few more pictures, but the first one was the one he kept going back to. the one where you were smiling in surprise while he kissed your cheek like it was instinct. he couldn’t help it, loving you had been the easiest thing he’d ever done.

“that one,” he said immediately. you leaned against his shoulder to look at the screen. the photo didn’t look staged or polished. It looked real.

your hand curled loosely in the fabric of his hoodie. his eyes were half-lidded and warm as he looked at you instead of the camera. the blurry hallway lights behind you both make everything feel soft. it looked like a moment someone would keep forever.

“you sure you wanna post that?” you asked quietly. jaime looked at you like the answer was obvious.

“yeah,” he said. “i want people to know 'bout you.”

something emotional stirred in your chest. not because he had to post you, but because he wanted to. proudly, openly and without hesitation.

he typed the caption for almost a full minute before finally turning the screen toward you.

Every once in a while, the clooless guys would go out for a night. You being close to them, you were invited too. Tonight’s adventure was a club. After a grueling hour or so of getting ready, you finally felt ready. The uber you had called had just picked you up, and you had texted the guys that you were on your way. With each passing minute you got increasingly more anxious, yet excited. Soon enough, you arrived at the club and began to walk in. It was just as the guys had described it, neon lights illuminating the smoke swirling around the people dancing. You could feel the bass of the music through your shoes as you walked towards where the guys sat. Half tipsy greetings and laughter from the others met you as you sat down beside Jaime. His eyes hadn’t left you since you walked over, maybe grizzy’s plan was working.

You hadn’t remembered the last time Jamie had treated you this well.

Not that he never treated you well on a date, but he had really gone out. It was the two of you guys anniversary and the first of it too. He had surprised you a week before that he had bought two tickets to Hawaii to celebrate. After a near 10 hour flight from Dallas, Texas to Honolulu, Hawaii, the two of you finally arrived. “Can I trust you to saute these onions without burning the place down?” You asked as you finished cutting the veggies for dinner. You were making dinner for the boys who were coming over to celebrate your engagement, but you had made cookies earlier with Droid. In true chaotic fashion, the flour had gone everywhere, and you wanted to take a shower before they got there.

“I think I can cook a few onions,” Droid scoffed, taking the spoon from your hand and lifting the cutting board to put the now-chopped onions in the pot. “It’s not like it’s rocket science.”

“Ok, I’m trusting you with this. Just please don’t burn the house down,” You replied before slowly turning and walking away. You were about halfway through your shower when Droid came into the bathroom. You peeked around the curtain to see him looking frantic. “Please tell me you didn’t burn it. That was our only onion.”

A quiet knocking pulled Droid’s focus away from his screen. He was in the middle of editing a video, and there was this one part that was really pissing him off. He could not get this clip just right, and he was focusing so hard on it that he lost track of time. 

He leaned back in his chair with a sigh as he spun the chair around to see you wrapped in one of your throw blankets from the living room. Droid was, once again, in the middle of streaming Five Nights at Freddy’s with Puffer when they randomly heard a glass shatter, followed by sprinting. Puffer looked between Droid and the door multiple times as he continued hearing running around the house. It went on for almost 20 minutes before it suddenly stopped. 

“Uh, I think something happened,” Puffer pointed out. Droid was back on the game after Puffer died at 2 AM. “There’s nothing.”

“Give it five minutes tops,” Droid replied after briefly pausing the game and listening. Then he went back to the game. Sure enough, about three minutes later, there was quiet knocking at the door. Droid quickly paused the game and gestured for Puffer to take over. “Here, you play.”

They swapped places before Droid continued to the door to see you sheepishly looking at him. He sighed, opening his arms for you to collapse in them as he rocked you back and forth for a bit.

“I broke that one vase you got me for our anniversary,” you whispered as you buried your face in his chest further, trying to hide from his reaction. “I didn’t mean to.”

“Don’t even worry about it. I’ll get you another one, but you’re not hurt right?” Droid comforted before changing his attention to look at your arms and legs for any cuts from the glass or bruises from maybe running into walls (one time!).

“I’m fine,” you chuckled tiredly trying to lean back into his body. “I slipped a bit in the kitchen and knocked my elbow, but other than that, I’m good. Tired, but I’m good.”

“Alright, come here,” he pulled you back into his arms after looking wearily at your arms. You wrapped them around his torso before he could scrutinize them too much. “You can sit with me and Puffer while we stream.”

“But I wanna sleep,” you whined, planting your feet at the door. “How much longer are you streaming?”

“At least another hour,” Droid guessed as he looked back at Puffer who just died again. “Dude, you suck at this game!”

“I don’t see you playing right now!” Puffer shouted back.
