i can't find anything talking about this so.
in pan's labyrinth (2006), in the pale man's realm, ofelia chooses to unlock the first compartment, rather than the middle compartment, and it's not really brought up as part of her disobedience, in the way eating the food is.
she gets a dagger from the first compartment.
and this film is full of different ways to interpret things so i think either
whatever compartment she was going to open affected the final task. in the narrative of the film, she retrives a dagger, which is wielded by the faun to kill her half-brother. if she had chosen the middle (or even the right) compartment, and got something different, she'd never had had to make the choice of sacrificing the baby. maybe she wouldn't have ever had to bring him to the labyrinth, thus making sure vidal doesn't see her and chase her, meaning she never dies. of course this idea implies that if she had listened to the faun, if she had been more obedient, she would have had a happier ending, which doesn't fit with a lot of the other parts of the film: the disobedience is good
she was always meant to disobey and open the first cabinet. that was always the task set out by the faun/her real father (or her imagination, depending on your interpretation). she was meant to prove her headstrongness. the final task would always be to choose an innocent's life over her own. and by extention, it was known she would eat the grapes while in the pale man's realm. that was all set up to let the faun get mad at her, to force her into despiration. every action of hers was preplanned by the faun/king.
