unpopular opinion: Zendikar was really cool but the eldrazi were a fucking shitty awful mistake and should have been used on a less amazing set.
Zendikar was absolutely gorgeous and interesting enough without bullshit Lovecraftian “”””horror”””” thrown in. I get that it was an attempt to score with the “I’m a geek so I’ll buy anything that has a picture of cthulhu lololol xD” crowd but in doing so Wizards of the Coast destroyed an already fantastic aesthetic and abandoned the opportunity to make the Eldrazi the star of their own shit awful set.
I got the Zendikar art book expecting to see more of the gorgeous land art and the incredible “adventure world” aspect, but like 80% of it is stupid fucking eldrazi. Interesting quests card art, lore about the dungeons? Nah, lets have some El-fucking-drazi instead.
I get that it’s really cool to some people but it just feels like a total waste of opportunity on Zendikar’s part, y’know? like they could have made it specifically about the hidden treasure or the quests or just the cool spelunking aspect, and saved the “cosmic horror” concept for a world that is more bland so that the lore would focus on just the cosmic horror aspect.

WOOOOO. Went and picked up a Jor Kadeen for my BFs weenie artifact Myr deck and the Gisa & Geralf for my Zombies deck! Now I need Grim Grin and Geralfs Masterpiece for my theme to be complete there. Also got super lucky and found a Tauros leaving NC. Was pretty great.
