West Bengal Erupts After Election Results: Killings, Bomb Attacks & Political Violence Rock State
West Bengal continues to witness shocking post-election violence after the 2026 Assembly results. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant Chandranath Rath was shot dead in Madhyamgram late Wednesday night, triggering massive political outrage.
Violence has spread across several districts including Howrah, Kamarhati, Basirhat and Asansol. Bomb attacks, firing incidents, vandalism and political clashes have created fear and tension across the state ahead of the May 9 swearing-in ceremony.
In Uluberia, violent clashes and bombings led to panic in markets, while police arrested 45 people. In Kamarhati, a BJP worker’s family alleged that armed attackers stormed their home and assaulted family members. Basirhat also reported a shooting incident involving a BJP worker.
Both BJP and TMC are blaming each other for the unrest, while the administration continues to appeal for peace. However, ground reports suggest the situation remains highly volatile across Bengal.
