     I have a short and true story for this musical entry. Nearly twenty years ago (goddamn I’m old) I attended an art college in Massachusetts and there was an online radio station available on campus for students to be completely talentless and awkward on called All Independent Radio. The radio station doesn't exist anymore, nor does the college, but that’s neither here nor there. The point is we played ONLY independent music (absolutely nothing main stream because of licensing and distribution restrictions), so our audio pool was rather small and mostly local. I came across A LOT of demos when I was a fledgling deejay, and I randomly stumbled upon Otto’s Daughter one fateful day, which is the closest I’ve ever come in my life to actually hearing a woman led Rammstein. On a whim and after liking the music I heard very much, I called the production line phone number I saw on the CD jacket and invited lead singer Jaqueline Van Bierk (JVB) on my shitty college radio rock show to do a short interview. To my utter shock, she accepted, and we had a really spirited discussion about her thoughts on German music and about statements that you can make with song writing. I even got JVB to admit on-air that the name of this band was derived from the fact that she was always just referred to as ‘Otto’s Daughter’ growing up, and rarely by her real name, which was a very personal and memorable moment in my short career as a disc jockey. Unfortunately, Otto’s Daughter never really hit it BIG on the music scene despite the wide-ranging vocal talent of the lead singer, enthusiastic and theatrical live performances, and their extremely distinctive pop-metal angle. In fact, they just broke up a few years ago. But, man, this was an independent act with some serious ability and it’s a damn shame more people haven't heard of them or their efforts. This is Todestanz aka Schweine from 2002′s Renew. If you have any cognitive dissonance about the fact that this song is vocally delivered in German, fret thee not, the vast majority of their work (well over 95%) is in English! Schau sie dir an, lieber Hörer!
