What does Eclectic mean?
As defined in the dictionary, Eclectic is the act of deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.
Is Eclectic the same as Electric?
Yes. I’ve heard both terms used to describe a practitioner that takes parts of other paths and open belief systems to mold their own path.
What is an Eclectic Witch? What kind of tools do they use?
An Eclectic Wich is a type of witch that isn’t following one specific path. Often, an Eclectic Witch will borrow from other open practices and open belief systems to create a path molded to them. Their path is outside the normal scope of ‘normal’ Pagan, Wicca, Witchcraft, etc. practices you often see.
The tools an Eclectic Witch uses depends on the type of path they’ve molded for themselves. Tools used in someone’s practice is at the discretion of the practitioner.
Are Eclectic Witches called something else?
Eclectic Witches can be referred to as Gray Witches, Hedge Witches, or Sorcerers/Sorceress.
Can Eclectic Witches be Pagan or Wiccan?
Technically, Eclectic Witches cannot be ‘true’ Wiccans as they are forming their path from the ground up and are not initiated in by a High Priest or Priestess, or Coven. This, however, does not mean you can’t. You can absolutely practice or take certain beliefs from Wicca.
Eclectic Witches can practice Eclectic Paganism. There is no particular path that is being followed, but instead a path that includes Pagan ethos of homage to the ancient Gods and Goddesses. But as always, be respectful when doing so. By doing this could cause more harm than good.
How do I practice as an Eclectic Witch?
The biggest thing for you to do is to follow what feels right. Never take something from a closed craft or belief system, however, as that will be not only harmful to you but also harmful to the craft or belief system. One must not appropriate.
Begin with taking small things from other crafts and slowly begin to build it from the ground up. You want to mold it uniquely to yourself - not your followers, friends, or family. To you and only you.
I have low/no spoons. How can I practice this path?
You mold it to yourself and your abilities both magical and mundane. This also goes for broom closet witches and for those with other restrictions. Mold it to you.
What are things I should be careful of when following the path of an Eclectic Witch?
When practicing make sure you are well versed in what you are borrowing for your craft. Do your research. Make sure you aren’t taking from a closed craft or belief system as that is consider appropriation.
If you find that something you’ve borrowed is actually from a closed craft of belief system, change it or take it out from your path completely.
