On the 9th of May, fifteen years ago, Lady Gaga released The Edge of Glory.
The Edge of Glory is a dance-pop anthem that blends euphoric synths with emotional lyrics about love, life, and living in the moment. Released as part of the album Born This Way, the song stands out for its uplifting energy, soaring chorus, and iconic saxophone solo by Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band.

There are no smoke and mirrors involved when it comes to the beautiful indie pop that stirs our souls off of Bora York’s music. In fact, there’s no smoke to be found anywhere despite the title of the husband wife duo’s latest single. Smoke is pristine and pure, clarion and silvery. And it takes us soaring sky high with its lifting choruses and balmy flittering Kygo-like electronic production. We leave the earth and all its burdensome troubles in the dust, rejuvenated with a renewed sense of vernal hope and boundless fervor. According to Bora York, Smoke is based on the idea of moving forward. Speaking of the track, Chris and Rebekah note: “There’s nothing like the feeling of being free like a road trip, and that’s the setting with this song. ‘No more anthems, and no more embers, no more questions, till we live surrendered' - this encompasses the idea of leaving the past, or worries, or regrets, behind. The good, the bad, the doubts - leaving it all behind for something new, something fresh.” Alongside the single’s arrival comes news of an upcoming album from the Minneapolis project named Emotion Vertigo. Dramatic, widescreen splendor greets our ears as Phantogram brings us a fresh dousing of their skittering trip hop and progressive electro-rock on Mister Impossible. They’re joined by colossal horns on what’s probably one of my favorite tracks from them out of their new material so far. It’s such a heady tune and electronica charged that it even reminds me of The Chemical Brothers at times. Mister Impossible was written in the band’s Laurel Canyon studio and recorded at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, where the duo have been working on their new music for an upcoming project. Phantogram tells the story behind the song, saying, “‘Mister Impossible’ was a song title we had in mind for a long time before it was written. We started working on it in the studio we built over the last year in Laurel Canyon, which we call Harmony West — we haven’t had our own workspace since Harmony Lodge [the barn where the band made their first couple albums in upstate New York], and it’s been so inspiring to have the opportunity once again to create music in our own space. Then we went out to Joshua Tree this last spring to work at Rancho de la Luna, where the recording really came together — some of the most fun we’ve had making music in a long time." I mentioned earlier that this past day has been full of sonic surprises. Though we’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of interesting collaborations involving Grimes lately, we still didn’t expect to encounter a Bring Me The Horizon release featuring the Canadian artist, who’s loved so much for her outlandish brilliance. English rockers Bring Me The Horizon have themselves been subverting expectations with their recent work. On today’s new single ‘nihilist blues’ they serve up a heaping of glorious electronic rock that hits harder than pop melodious offerings like 'mother tongue’, which you can stream below.
