🌌 Background / Lore

She is the youngest child of the Zöllner household and has an older brother called Michel.

The Zöllner family has had deep ties to the Knights of Favonius for ages. So much so that it isn't unusual to see at least 2 or more Zöllners within the order. Aside from that, the family is also well-known for their longstanding business as toll collectors.

She's part of the Knights of Favonius, just like her brother, but their reasons to join the order are very different.

She first enlisted as a field knight, but then was placed into the Reconnaissance after "too many reckless behavior that was making her superiors grow white hair" (according to her).

She likes to call herself a "forward scout." She's the first one sent ahead to test terrain, track movement, and draw out threats. Not because she's the most disciplined, but because she's fearless, she reacts fast under pressure, and she learns by doing, even if it's messy.

Katrin isn't the quiet, methodical intel-gatherer type. She's the one who goes ahead of the unit, pokes the danger first, accidentally triggers situations, and then has to deal with the consequences in real time

Among the other recons, she has a reputation: "Don't let Katrin go first, unless you want something to happen."

But despite all the complaints… she gets results.

She's always being scolded by Michel for being too "reckless and irresponsible" and for "not doing her job right". She knows he loves her and just wants the best for her, so does she for him, but she's already tired of him trying to baby her.

She wants to prove to him and their parents that she's very much capable of handling herself.

She's very aware of Michel's feelings for Elissa, she thinks he does a poor job at hiding it, so in the few times she talked to Elissa, she made sure to treat the girl right. Katrin admires Elissa as a future sister-in-law and treats her warmly, keen to impress and support her brother's affection.

Katrin is very confident and bold, most of the time even too bold for her own good.

She is quite chatty and has no problem in socializing.

She has the habit of stirring trouble even when she doesn't meant to.

She tends to be impulsive and not think twice before acting up, which usually leads her to get hurt.

She's very hard-headed and never allows herself to back down until she proves herself right on something, though she would accept if she was proven wrong (though it would wound her pride).

Despite all that, she is willing to face the consequences of her actions and learn from them.

Michel Zöllner (older brother)

Her greatest annoyance, her fiercest supporter. Michel's constant scolding drives Katrin mad, he treats her like a child who can't be trusted, when all she wants is to prove she's capable. But underneath the irritation lies her deepest loyalty: he was the first person she confided in about her sexuality, and his immediate, unconditional support is something she'll never forget. For all their bickering, Katrin knows Michel would fight the whole world for her, and she'd do the same for him.

Elissa Äverl (brother's crush, possible future sister-in-law)

Katrin finds her brother's attempts at subtlety absolutely laughable, of course she noticed. She thinks Elissa is sweet, maybe a little too serious, but treats her warmly whenever their paths cross. After all, Elissa might one day be family, and Katrin has already decided she'll make the girl feel welcome. Deep down, she hopes Elissa will see the same quiet, steadfast Michel she sees, even if he hides it behind his polished "perfect knight" act.

Bella Äverl (acquaintance, bordering on friendship)

Bella is loud where Katrin is reckless, and somehow that makes them get along frighteningly well. Katrin likes that Bella never treats her like she's fragile or incapable, even when everyone else is lecturing her about caution. The two have a habit of enabling each other's bad ideas, rooftop climbing, tavern hopping, impulsive dares, which Michel absolutely despises. Still, beneath all the chaos, Katrin respects Bella deeply. She sees how fiercely Bella loves Elissa and understands that protective instinct more than she'd ever admit out loud.

Jonah Lohmann (coworker)

At first, Katrin thought Jonah was too quiet for Reconnaissance. Then she realized he notices absolutely everything, he just doesn't feel the need to announce it. She likes bothering him just to see if she can get a reaction out of him, though most of the time he only sighs at her antics instead of scolding her. Oddly enough, his calmness balances her out during missions; when Katrin rushes headfirst into trouble, Jonah is usually the one silently making sure things don't completely fall apart behind her. She trusts him more than she expected to trust anyone in Reconnaissance.

Raffael Holgerson (occasional partner in trouble)

Raffael is either a terrible influence or a fantastic one, Katrin still hasn't decided. He's clever, chaotic, and far too good at talking his way into places they absolutely shouldn't be. Katrin enjoys his energy because unlike most nobles, he doesn't act superior, and unlike most people, he can actually keep up with her. Their conversations tend to become competitions without warning: who can scale a rooftop faster, sneak into a restricted area first, or win an argument through sheer stubbornness alone. He's exhausting, entertaining, and dangerously easy to have fun with.

Rachel Holgerson (friendly rival)

Katrin swears Rachel could start an argument with a brick wall and somehow still look pretty doing it. The two clash often, mostly because neither of them likes backing down once they've decided they're right. Still, Katrin genuinely enjoys Rachel's company. She likes that Rachel is blunt about what she wants and refuses to shrink herself for anyone else's comfort. Even when they're bickering, there is an odd sense of camaraderie between them, like two storms colliding without truly wanting to hurt the other. Katrin would never say it aloud, but she thinks Rachel is much sharper than people give her credit for.

Eula Lawrence (captain)

Katrin initially expected Eula to be cold and impossible to approach because of the rumors surrounding the Lawrence name. Instead, she found someone unexpectedly straightforward and strangely easy to understand. Eula's seriousness reminds Katrin a little too much of Michel sometimes, which means she occasionally pokes at her on purpose just to see if she can make her lose composure. It rarely works. Despite that, Katrin respects Eula immensely as a knight. She admires the way Eula continues moving forward despite the judgment constantly thrown at her, and though she'd deny being sentimental about it, Katrin quietly thinks Eula deserves better than Mondstadt often gives her.

Gitta Kaschba (occasional partner in trouble)

Katrin met Gitta and immediately thought, "Oh, this is a terrible idea." Then they teamed up anyway. There is something undeniably fun about being around someone who rarely needs convincing to do something reckless. The two share a worrying talent for turning ordinary situations into memorable disasters, usually because neither of them likes backing down from a challenge. Whether they're arguing over who spotted something first or racing toward a problem everyone else is sensibly avoiding, Gitta is one of the few people Katrin has met who can genuinely keep up with her. Katrin would never admit how much she enjoys that. She finds Gitta's confidence refreshing. A lot of people spend their time worrying about what could go wrong, while Gitta seems far more interested in proving what could go right. It doesn't always work, but Katrin respects the attitude anyway. More than once, she's found herself laughing in the middle of situations that probably should have been taken more seriously simply because Gitta was there.

🎨 Visuals

Long, silky strands of deep sapphire blue hair falls nearly to Katrin's waist. Her hair is parted slightly off-center, with the top layers gently swept back and pinned at the crown, allowing soft tendrils to frame her face. Her eyes are a pale, crystalline blue accentuated by a faint silvery fleck near the pupils, her skin is porcelain-fair. She's 164 tall.

Katrin's main fit: She wears a cropped, sleeveless high-neck vest in charcoal gray, cut asymmetrically so that it swoops down over her left ribcage, leaving her right flank and a sliver of midriff exposed. The neckline fastens with a small, silver diamond-shaped clasp, and tiny riveted studs line the shoulder seams like miniature epaulets. Over each forearm she wears form-fitting sleeves of slightly lighter gray: the left stops just below the elbow, the right extends to her wrist under a fingerless leather glove. The right glove is detailed with a fishnet mesh back and slender straps. Her low-slung utility belt is a tangle of narrow straps and buckles, some holding small pouches, others clipped with rings for gear. A medium-length, charcoal leather skirt with a open front and tattered edges hangs from the belt, layered over snug black shorts for maximum maneuverability. Beneath it, on her right upper thigh, there's a golden chain that holds her Vision. On her legs she sports opaque white stockings that reaches mid-thigh. Katrin's boots are stout yet lightweight, rising just above the ankle. They're studded with small violet gems at the straps and have reinforced soles.

The dress features a fitted corset-style bodice in a dark royal purple shade. The neckline is a sweetheart shape, trimmed with gold embroidery and delicate decorative vine-like patterns. Gold filigree extends downward from the center of the neckline, forming elegant vertical ornamental motifs across the front of the corset. The waist is tightly cinched and decorated with a narrow belt-like black band featuring gold detailing. Vertical seams and subtle paneling create a tailored silhouette, while gold detailing follows the shape of the corset. At the right side of the hem of the neckline sits a small violet flower ornament made from layered fabric petals with two short mauve mini-tails beneath.

Around her neck is a white ruffled choker and gold horizontal gold detailing with a central violet ornamental bow. Hanging from the bow is a teardrop-shaped purple gemstone pendant. A additional gold chain with a thin decorative diamond-shaped violet gem wrap around the neck.

The dress is off-the-shoulder, leaving the shoulders and upper chest exposed. Attached beneath the shoulders are sheer lavender sleeves made from translucent chiffon-like fabric.

The sleeves are loose and voluminous, but starts with a ruffled darker shade of purple (almost looks black) fabric before the sheer fabric begins beneath. Dark violet ribbons are tied around the ruffled fabric into bows. The sleeves gather at the wrists where they end in layered white ruffled cuffs. The cuffs are trimmed with delicate lace. Gold vine-like embroidery is scattered across the sleeves, particularly near the outer edges and cuffs.

On the right side of the waist sits a arrangement of three violet flowers, with a medium-length purple bow below. The centerpiece of the bow is a lavender gemstone with a short trailing gold chain-like ornament.

The skirt is highly layered and asymmetrical. The outermost layer consists of dark royal purple fabric decorated with intricate gold patterns resembling vines and ornamental filigree. Gold trim outlines every edge of the overskirt. The front of the skirt is opened dramatically to reveal several layers beneath. Underneath are cascading white ruffled layers that descend in overlapping tiers. The white fabric is decorated with pale gold flower motifs scattered throughout the ruffles. Additional lavender and purple layers sit beneath the overskirt, adding volume and depth to the silhouette. The skirt is shortest at the front, allowing the legs to remain visible, while the sides and back extend into long flowing layers.

From the back view, the gown appears almost entirely symmetrical, creating a grand ballroom silhouette. The back of the bodice features traditional corset lacing running vertically down the center. A large dark purple (almost black) bow sits at the lower back where the bodice meets the skirt. A gold elongated ornament hang from the center of the bow, extending downward ending in a star-like shape. The back of the overskirt continues the gold embroidery seen on the front.

Her legwear is mismatched. Her left leg is covered by an opaque black thigh-high stocking. The right leg is bare except for a black garter strap fitted with a gold buckle, her Vision is attached to the center of it. Attached below is a hanging, short gold chain with a purple gemstone.

She wears calf-high dark purplish brown leather boots. The boots have a moderate block heel and pointed, slightly rounded toes. Gold embroidery resembling vines decorates the upper portions of the boots. The front is secured with black lacing running from the foot to near the calf. Additional gold trim outlines parts of the boot structure, particularly around the top edge, eyelets and heel area.

She also wears sheer, short mauve gloves.

She wears a pair of dangling gold earrings set with large purple gemstones. Each earring consists of two faceted amethyst-colored stones arranged vertically. The top stone is oval-shaped, and the bottom stone is a larger round drop. Small gold connectors decorated with mini pearl-like beads link each stone together, allowing them to hang freely and create movement, while delicate gold settings and decorative filigree details frame each stone. The earrings are long enough to sway with movement.

Her hair is styled into a low braided updo at the back of her head. The majority of her hair is gathered away from her face and swept backward in smooth sections, creating a clean, tidy silhouette. These loose strands are noticeably curlier than the rest of the hairstyle (because she styled it).

She wears a eye makeup done in a soft purple gradient with a slightly dramatic shape. The eyelid is covered in pale lavender eyeshadow that deepens into a heather-purple across the outer half of the eye. The darkest color, a deep plum-purple, is concentrated at the outer corner and blended outward into a sharp shape that extends slightly past the eye. A thin line of glittery lavender shimmer follows the upper crease and outer edge of the eyeshadow, creating a subtle halo effect. The inner half of the eyelid remains lighter, with a satin finish that reflects light softly. The lower lash line is lined with a sheer lavender shimmer that runs from the inner corner to the outer corner. The inner corner of the eye is lightly highlighted with a pale, luminous shimmer. The eyeliner is dark and sharply defined, concentrated along the upper lash line and extending into a small sharp shape at the outer corner. The lower outer corner is also softly smoked with dark plum shadow, connecting to the upper shape for a slightly elongated eye shape.

✨ Fun Facts / Trivia

• Despite being naturally social, she’s currently abstaining herself of close friendships to focus on her goals.

• Doesn't have any noble friends, only commoners.

• Absolutely hates noble parties. Finds them boring and rather be doing anything but attending to one.

• Michel was the first person she opened about her sexuality. She was worried about their parents reaction (because they're quite conservative), and he just turned and said "If they're disrespectful about it, I'll hire a apartment for us and we'll move out, they won't deserve a daughter like you", that made her see she can count on him no matter what.

• Knows how to play violin (because her parents forced her to learn as a child). But hates it, so she never does.

• Hobby: Climbing onto rooftops to "watch the stars and spy on boring meetings."

• Her favorite flower is the Violetgrass. She thinks it's prettier than Cecilia and "more stubborn."

• She finds Elissa's dresses GORGEOUS. Once asked her help to pick a dress for a ball (skin dress). Elissa was caught off guard by that.

Unlike her brother, she does have friends. I just didn't name them or thought about them 😅 Maybe one day I'll. Maybe.

If anyone wants to know the aftermath of her coming out to her parents: they weren't exactly open-minded per se, they were practical about it. Honestly? They didn't care much, because Katrin isn't their main heir, Michel is. And he's straight, so they're not concerned if Katrin kisses girls, they're concerned if Michel will get married 😬
