2021년 7월 22일 | 한국어를 열심히 공부하고 있어요! I just finished Elementary Korean by Ross King and Jaehoon Yeon. This seems to be a very linguistically aware, mature, and rigorous series, and I’m very excited to move on to the sequel Continuing Korean 🤓

Expressing location in Korean
I am never fully satisfied with a textbook, but I've gotta give it to 'Elementary Korean' textbook, it' really got some gems in it.
I was just flipping through it, and I remembered when I was first starting learning Korean one of the most confusing lessons in 'Korean Made Easy' was location expressions.
책상 위에 - my way of thinking was: well if there's a particle, and all other words marked with particles can change positions within a sentences, so should this one. Can 위에 책상 be correct?
I figured the answer on my own later, but it took a while of listening Koreans speak to see it never occurred in this order.
⬇⬇⬇
On the other hand 'Elementary Korean' says right away that order is important, and even gives an example why:
방 옆에 = next to the room
옆 방에 = in the next room
⬆⬆⬆
I just thouht I would throw it out there for all beginner learners of Korean who are struggling like I did.
Oh, and if you want to find out more about this textbook you can read my Tuttle Elementary Korean review.
If I made a google doc of my notes from Elementary Korean, would anyone be interested in them? lol I only have chapter one typed for now, but I plan to hopefully finish the whole book.
If I do, I’m not sure I’ll have it where everyone can edit, but I’ll have it for everyone to be able to add comments. I’m not sure...thoughts?

Continuing Korean chapter 18 vocabulary list
Hey everyone! Here is the vocabulary list I made from the two dialogues and the reading passage from chapter 18.
It is on Quizlet and Memrise as usual.
enjoy!
New textbook! I have now moved onto the Continuing Korean textbook by Ross King and Jaehoon Yeon, the latter being one of the lecturers at my university. Continuing Korean is the second book in the series - the first being Elementary Korean. I like that the font-size for the title of each grammar point is larger than in the previous book. I feel that it is easier to find a specific grammar point that you are looking for this way~ At first I thought the hangul on the front was just made-up but my 선생님 (teacher) told me that these were some original letters when hangul was first being created - however they are now no longer in use. Looking forward to learning more Korean!
Chapter 12 revision notes - soo much grammar!
Here are my second set of revision notes - this time for chapter 12 of Elementary Korean.
Chapter 12 is absolutely CRAMMED full of new grammar - there are so many new forms!
Included in the chapter was:
Forming "but" sentences
Long negative form (+ its past form)
Negative commands and suggestions
Some new particles
Forming suggestions and tentative questions
"Thinking of doing" form
"wanna" form
These pictures are scans of my notes~
Again, apologies for my handwriting!!
