Imminent elaboration 는 대(요), (으)ㄴ 대(요) (…, but…, so…)
Imminent elaboration 는대(요), (으)ㄴ대(요) (…, but…, so…) The overall meaning of structures including –대 is circumstantial (given the circumstance that…, in view of the circumstance that…) This form has the English equivalent of so, but, or an even vaguer “…” It carries the feeling that: 1. there may be something else to say or add 2. Or that now that the first thing has been said by the speaker, the listener may wish to ask for clarification or elaboration.
For plain non-past descriptive verbs this shape is used: (으)ㄴ대(요) For all other verbs this shape is used: 는대(요)
같이 갔으면 좋겠는데… I wanted to go along but… Here you can see that there is more to be said on the matter.
When this structure includes 요 it is often a polite exclamation with a sense of possible elaboration: 눈이 많이 왔는데요!
(으)ㄴ / 는 바람에 – Because of Ving (negative consequences)
(으)ㄴ / 는바람에– Because of Ving
When 바람 reason, cause +에 is added to a modifying clause it gives the meaning because of Ving, as a consequence of Ving. This structure is usually used to talk about a negative consequence
-Processive modifier 는 +바람에 -descriptive modifier (으)ㄴ+바람에
비가 오는 바람에 바다에 못 갔어요. Because it is raining (we) couldn’t go to the beach
그 사람은 공부 못 하는 바람에 대학교에 못 갔어요. Because that person doesn’t study, they couldn’t go to university.
As this form is used to give negative consequences it implies the speaker’s displeasure with the result.

Chapter 19 vocabulary list
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't uploaded for a while I have been revising for a Korean exam. Which means I have a lot of Korean work I have done which I will share with you all but as I have skipped a few chapters I was going to wait to upload them until I had completed the notes for the other chapters as otherwise it will be all out of order! If you would rather I just upload my notes anyway let me know and I will!
Anyway, here is the vocabulary list for chapter 19. There were lots of words this week so I had to split it into two tables but the list is up whole on Quizlet and Memrise as usual.
Enjoy!

New textbook! I have now moved onto the Continuing Korean textbook by Ross King and Jaehoon Yeon, the latter being one of the lecturers at my university. Continuing Korean is the second book in the series - the first being Elementary Korean. I like that the font-size for the title of each grammar point is larger than in the previous book. I feel that it is easier to find a specific grammar point that you are looking for this way~ At first I thought the hangul on the front was just made-up but my 선생님 (teacher) told me that these were some original letters when hangul was first being created - however they are now no longer in use. Looking forward to learning more Korean!
