Γειά σου! Do you remember how Italy temporarily gave back to Greece a fragment of the Parthenon marbles? Well, a few days ago the restitution has been declared for ever :D (sorry if I keep bothering you with this, I'm happy about it and I thought you'd be too)

Oh yes I read about it :D Here's a photo when they add it to the rest :)

It's important that Italy sets a positive precedent, especially in light of the recent discussions between London and Athens where the British literally came up with the argument "we didn't cut them from the temple, we found them lying on the ground (waiting for us)". Imagine saying this on an official level. Talk about lowest of lows, for real.

Γειαααα! Yes, I've heard about it. It's hopeful that more people start seeing the right of it. Now I just hope others (and Italy itself again) will follow that first example systematically, meaning also returning other relics of questionable acquisition besides Parthenon's marbles and permanently (not just as loans). And to other countries besides Greece of course. I mean, I think we all agree we could send replicas for many of them once they are returned. But it is important that an example is set (I think it was Palermo which sent it?), this would hopefully in time make other museums imitate it and also take it one step further.

Hello! Don't know if you remember, I'm that guy who decided to learn Greek after realising I understood the Greek part in one of your posts :') well, I wanted to say that this Monday I'm going to have my first university lesson of Greek! I started uni recently in Ancient Literature and asked to take a facultative class of Modern Greek (I technically couldn't take it until third years, but the prof accepted me anyway and helped me to find a loophole that allowed me to attend- and he did find one!) and I'm looking forward to these classes!

Hi! This is awesome!!! I believe it is a clever decision because not only it deepens and broadens your understanding of the language and its lingual and literary history but it also makes your studies more practical beyond the academic and professional purposes as you will be able to also communicate in everyday life with Greeks or in Greece or follow Greek media (books, TV, movie, music, news etc). (You are an Italian neighbour if I remember correctly?) Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your Modern Greek course and of course you can always hit me up with those asks in Modern Greek like you had promised (see? I remember 😂)

@elettradarkness Glad to hear this because when we say that Modern Greek isn’t that different from ancient everyone is like “Sure, Jan” 😂 Also Modern is easier so you should be able to get often a vague understanding of a modern text even when studying only Ancient. The opposite would be harder to achieve, I believe. I’ll be waiting 🤓
