My roomies are here!
I was awake when they got in last night. I'm sleeping a little better. It took me awhile to fall asleep, but I stayed asleep. I'm making a point to not take a nap today so that I can go to bed early tonight.
Today we bought groceries and found our way to the gym where we'll be training.
This afternoon, Eddie and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. He convinced me to run. We ran about 4 minutes, took a break to walk, and then ran another 6 minutes. Cardio warmups take 3-4 minutes, so we wanted to hit that range and push a little further. Now I know for sure I can do it.
That being said, the run was fairly unpleasant. I did my best to control my breathing, but I still couldn't get enough oxygen. At the end of the four minutes, I couldn't feel the end of my nose. At the end of the six minutes, my ears felt all stopped up. As uncomfortable as that was, I stayed on my feet, I didn't stop moving, and I didn't pass out.
Day 0 of CIC 2 is a success.
Today I tested out my lungs in this new and unusual land. I was on the elliptical for about an hour and felt pretty good. I had a light headache, but managing my breathing wasn't too bad. Here are my stats, but I didn't keep my hands on the heart rate monitor the whole time.
What astounded me was that my sweat actually evaporated instead of drawing more moisture to my body. My shirt was the same color after my workout as it was before!
After a short rest, I changed and hit the hotel pool. I swam for about 20 minutes (head out of water) and enjoyed the hot tub for 5 more.
I didn't push myself super hard today, but I'm feeling optimistic.
Let's see... I've been slacking with updates but not with exercise.
Last Monday I had a good Krav class. I don't remember if I went to the gym or not. If I went, I did cardio.
I did go to the gym Tuesday. It was arm day. I cut my workout a little shorter than Nik's so that I could run.
On Wednesday I did chest and abs and then went to Krav. That was a mistake. Conditioning was agony that day.
On Thursday I was sore, and we had company, so no workout for me. I skipped fencing on Friday because we had different company.
Saturday made up for it. I did a Krav seminar in the morning. Then I helped with a fencing demo in the afternoon and walked a 5K (in armor) at sunset.
I might go to the gym today; I don't know. It depends on whether I can coax my feet into my sneakers. I have some pretty impressive blisters from yesterday.

Cincinnati Bengals to Hold Training Camp at City Dump
It is just a few days into training camp and teams around the league that are scheduled to play the Denver Broncos are already taking to new measures in order to defeat the powerhouse of a team from the Mile High City.
Besides the hack job of a Super Bowl performance the Broncos displayed, the Denver offense sliced through other defenses last season like butter, racking up points and breaking records left and right.
The Seahawks, on the other hand, were one team that had the Broncos figured out. And as it has been reported, the weeks leading up to the playoffs, the team was holding practices on top of Mt. Rainier, just outside of Seattle, standing at nearly 14,500 feet.
The key to success against Denver, elevation training. And opponents are taking note and following suit.
The Cincinnati Bengals are a perfect example. They have a big one this season hosting the Broncos to a Monday Night duel in December.
For the past three seasons the Bengals have put up a fight in the playoffs but have been unsuccessful in advancing. If they want to even feel what it’s like to win in the postseason, beating the Broncos will be a good first step. So why not practice the way Denver practices? High altitude, high performance. And that’s exactly what they are doing. Changing things up. Worked for Seattle right?
We caught up with Andy Dalton, who claims to be the mastermind behind the change of plans in the Bengal’s training routines. He gave us directions to the new site of training camp so we could get an inside look into Cincinnati’s elevation strategy.
“Yeah, two days into camp and I knew what we were doing just wasn’t going to cut it. We needed to get out of this low-elevation and into the hills. It’s the best we can do to have a shot,” Dalton said after taking a deep breath of fresh air. “So here we are, the city landfill. Welcome to Rumpke Mountain! The highest point in Cincinnati. This is where we will become the high octane machine we need to be in order to take it to the Donkeys!”
The rest of the Bengals’ personnel could not be reached for commentary because they refused to have training camp at the dump. Fans alike were also unavailable for comment because of the same reason.

went to bed at 2am after a long and uneventful night. then forced myself out of bed at 9:30 to go for a run. i didnt have a distance in mind but i wanted to go slow and easy and try to get an hour worth of running in. but due to pride and the fact that there are always people walking around on a college campus i started out a little fast which cause me to end a little slow. well that along with the hills slowed me down a bit. anyway in all it was 6.2 miles in 48 minutes, 1 minute negative split which i am very proud of. this is 7:44 pace which i think is pretty good seeing as i have only been training at 7,000 ft for a little over a week.
