Two library-bound Shannara books at thrift
Official Post from EvilElitest: Looking at classic fantasy, and its tendency to pick the wrong protagonist.
Once again we return to my childhood and look at fantasy novels and the themes within. And while Lord of the Rings if the classical image of fantasy, I think for most fantasy fans, Shannara, which is more arch typical with over 20 books with a more serial style. So what makes this series attractive even going back years later, which is some pretty nice imagery, some evocative villains, and good world building. So what doesn’t work? Listen and find out.
Also while our critique applies to the entire series, we are mostly focused on Elfstong of Shannara, which is tied for Wishsong for my favorite book and the only one @afriendtokilltime has read.
I’ve been watching The Shannara Chronicles on Netflix and so far I’m not sure what I think of it, but I’m sticking around for Austin Butler’s Wil and his positively hilarious cynical commentary.
The delivery is just perfect. Is he like that in the books too?
It feels so werid seeing clips of Shannara after I've read the books 🤦
"I believe in evil, Wil. And those things bring you nothing but misery."
Found some Shannara books at thrift! I really nice condition! So happy to have book 1 in hardback 😍
