i dont have much more but :) i have this ☝ :) eliah reveal
my favorite pair of dysfunctional sisters amen..... lil bonus trivia under the cut
eliah is 32, ev is 14, giving them an 18 years of difference. eliah was finishing highschool when ev was born
eliah's birthday is on July 27th
and ev's is on May 8th! :)
i had a very specific view for eli im glad i managed to draw it as i'd imagined 🙏 bless pinterest i could find multiple references for the kind of business attire she wears + her haircut. this isnt what she wears to just lounge at home tho. now that i think about it i wonder what it is........
eliah is very cool :) shes like. just cool. she can usually give off a Very charismatic vibe + is a renowed name in the field of like magic research..... sometimes she shows up at the local university to drop some lectures the people love her. professor nuray has like a very good image as an approachable woman and she can act very good with children. her smile is only half fake but it's really really warming, no wonder evangeline loves it. but eli can be pretty cold too
evangeline also usually goes for like, more baggy tomboy-ish vibes but this also fits her style :) i have pinterest boards for ev here and for eliah here
i do think eliah has some kind of master's degree or maybe a doctorate but i have no idea what it is in. also it is worth noting half the brilliant progress she has been able to make in testing her wonderful theories on the way magical energy (teiman) works and how it interacts with non-magical energy etc etc. has mostly been made possible by the whole. unethical experiments on unwilling subjects with cool powers :) she has her whole lab team of course but she's still the boss of all of them
OH OH and im not sure i mentioned it before but in their setting i call magic "teiman" :D i had made it up on the spot some years ago (before i had ev or eliah) but retroactively i decided that, in-universe, it is somehow derived from the greek "thauma", meaning miracle.
What would happen if all your ocs from different projects met eachother
*makes some sort of excited noise* okay so i'll stick to evangeline's lil bubble, espada + key (i would do the whole penalty cast but this is long and i know you like key) because thats what ive talked about more:
You know Eliah? Ev's despicable evil sister/the human rights violator/evil ceo? Espa would be intimidated. They're good at telling when people hold positions of power and are quick to fall into a subservient, unobtrusive behavior. Even if they don't notice it they'll treat her like a handler. Like one of the higher-up ones. Eliah would be mildly pleased. It's not bad when someone is so proactive to fulfull your reauests and suggestions, she thinks. Plus, the kid is polite. Not bad company. Probably useful. She approves
(Evangeline would think Espa is weird. Espa would not think much of Evangeline at all.)
Sabre would be insantly shitting scared of Eliah also. She IS very imposing. Like Espa he is very stiff and quick to obey but he's much more freaked out about it than they are. He doesn't want to mess it up (he always messes it up). Eliah kind of picks up on his nervousism but doesn't comment. She likes it, honestly. It's good when people are scared of her. They should be.
Moving on: Key and Espa would be a little funny. Key is falling back on hospitality and offering it a seat and a room and a drink and Espa doesn't want to be stubborn and refuse but people don't give it nice things and it feels weird in accepting. Both of their comfort zones/default behavior is surrounded by a lot of fawning and servicing others and being unobtrusive but Key can be much more assertive about it than Espa is; they are a little outnumbered and end up accepting the tea. Key doesn't dislike them, but they are wary. They like reading people to get an assessment of if they should be cautious/scared/resigned/at ease and Espa is really fucking difficult to read. She is very polite but also quiet and doesn't give much of an impression to be honest and Key is not sure of how to mentally label her. So, they are not opposed to having her as a guest again, but wether they feel good or bad about her is still up in the air. Espa does not open its game and that makes Key uneasy. It does not realize this. It just doesn't want to cause trouble.
If we were in Espa's zone, however; they will still try to respect their percieved ~authority~, but in an emmergency/hazardous situation, they will hold their ground and take steps to efficiently take care of the situation and get all relevant parties to safety. Depending on the amount of force/aggression used, Key is slightly stressed. People who are strong enough to hurt you are always going to do it, sooner or later. Espa picks up on the change and deflates. They sink down on themself further and try to not be scary. It works, a bit. Key is only slightly wary instead of seeing her as a potential/impending threat. If there was no gory show of violence, though, Key becomes much more fond of their whole presence. Still unsure about how to categorize her; but it is clearly trustworthy and both able and willing to help. They are more than welcome to come another time. Key won't be displeased about it
Also, if it were Ann with Key instead, they would immediately clock her as an obnoxious bastard and just quietly serve her the drinks and do their job without as much as an expression. They do not like her and although you can't say they aren't being gracious and helpful it is a little clear that they are sort of looking down on her. They are cautious, but they aren't fully afraid. They will not sabotage her or speak ill of her or even waste brainpower wishing she'd just be gone alrrady and will just deal with it in their little Key way but they secretly think she is a little pathetic. Grown ass woman. They will perfectly serve the tea and biscuits and clean her water spill without a second thought. It is with an air of condescence that Ann might only slightly pick up on but can not do anything about. Even she knows that there is nothing concrete to complain about aside from faint vibes. She crosses her arms; it's not even her servant. She just has to accept the tea and hope they'll make a mistake she can complain about. They never do.
Key with Eliah would fall into a very comfortable dynamic for the both of them. Eliah likes people who listen to her and are efficient; Key likes having clear instructions and expectations to fulfill. This is a familiar situation for all parties and none will dislike it. Eliah is not unreasonable or unpleasant and Key can deal with that.
Key would find Evangeline a little cute but it would be a little similar. They end up being a little more friendly towards kids, subcounsciously, but their general demeanor doesnt change much. Ev is slightly intimitated but thinks they are cool.
Bonus - Ann + Eliah: Ann loses. It is not a conpetition but she does either way. Eliah knows to keep her cool. Ann is smart and will know she can't just do whatever she wants like usual; it's like being on a meeting with an important person or talking to a superior. She is very sulky about this. Eliah knows it. She is very condescending about it. It infuriates the shit out of Ann. I cheer from the sidelines.
Bonus bonus - Juste would freak the shit out of Key. They are used to people who think they hold all the power, wether thats true or not, but all the fear they mightve had about Ann or Eli is concentrated on him. His general demeanor (clearly predatory smile and way too comfortable and laid back) rings more alarm bells in their head than any of the other two could. This is based on past experiences and pattern recognition; if they fail with people like Eliah, they will get hurt. If not, everything is fine. With people like Juste? They don't even need to fail. The likes if him don't need to wait for a punishment to (mentally, metaphorically) destroy them. He is just creepy. They'd much rather him be regular scary and aggressive than this. They are probably shaking. Juste realizes this and it does not help the situation overall. He is amused. He thinks they are doing well. That's probably part of the problem.
Ev :) again :) having fun with her. Came up with this while trying to figure out The Chamber (that will have to wait a little longer, though). Been toying for a while with the idea that Eliah uses them as a magical battery sometimes.
-> Evangeline's masterlist
[CWs: Kinda suicidal ideation but whumpee's immortal? Child whumpee, lab whump, casual mistreatment I think? Lmk if I missed anything ^_^]
It was the kind of thing you’d expect to find in the depths of the facility. A shady underground lab, maybe. Dark but for the eery glow of the piece in the center, the gurgling sound of bubbles inside the tube layered over the heavy hum of inhuman machinery. Something shameful. Hidden. Something nobody would ever visit.
Not the cleanest, emptiest lab on the highest floor.
The room was, instead, as bright as a doctor’s office. The chamber was a large cylinder, and it didn’t really shine a sickly green like he’d expected it would. Maybe he’d been watching too many movies. It looked darker inside the tube than outside it, actually. As if nobody had bothered to turn on its lights. No—as if they’d been dimmed for her to sleep.
“That’s not where your eyes should be at,” Dr. Eliah Nuray lightly tapped a pen at him. He swallowed, turning to look at her. The electric lamps shone down on her, making her features no doubt seem way sharper than they were supposed to be. Her tone was not any kind of harsh. She crossed her arms, a little amused. He resisted the urge to fluster. There was a smile there, now. “As interesting as is the sight, the actual signals we monitor are around here. See?” Nuray made a gesture to her left, and he turned his eyes just as a motion-sensitive crane unfolded from its place, swiftly expanding to offer a panel in front of her. An holographic display flicked on before he could even blink. It was one of those fancy kinds. Not even the neatest labs back in his university were this clean. There was always some static breaking the image. But this; it was so unlike that, a smooth projection so clean he almost thought he could touch it. It might barely be the same technology. Nuray effortlessly slid her fingers to command the screen to flip at him. He tried not to be intimidated.
The cylinder in the corner of the room stood there, still. So did the girl inside, floating in a liquid he couldn’t quite identify. Deep in slumber. Wires clipped onto her limbs, the steady rise and fall of her chest the only signal that she was even alive. An oxygen mask hiding half of her face. It was still a hellish display.
But the signals on the chart she showed him begged to disagree. He had to admit they were impressive. All knew of Dr. Nuray’s feats into the field, how brilliant were her schemes and results dealing with this kind of energy—but seeing it happen in person was nothing short of phenomenal. He might have shown his stupor a little too much on his face. A short laugh cut him out of his thoughts. “These levels are mostly the ones adjusted by the reactor. The fuel we’ll actually use,” she clarified, magnifying a small schematic of the machine on the screen with a gesture he figured he shouldn’t really try to replicate. “It wouldn’t be possible without the source, of course,” she commented with a shrug. “I’m sure you have already been briefed on the systems that gather up everything themselves, so I’ll spare you of the blabber. Learning to read these shouldn’t be too hard for someone with your background, I assume. No need to look like that!” She joked, purposefully misinterpreting his awestruck expression. “It’s not as complicated as it looks. We have plans of expanding and having more facilities to conduct research,” there was a pause. A full two seconds. Nuray went on as if it hadn’t happened: “But it’s been a little hard to find volunteers.”
He wasn’t fully listening at that point, though. Something chilly crept up his spine. He raised a hand to his neck. In what he’d pat himself in the back for as an act of bravery, later, he turned to face her. And didn’t shiver. “Is she sleeping?”
It seemed to take a second for Nuray to come to what—to who—he was talking about. She spared the small chamber a long look. As if only now noticing it. Granted, it wasn’t nearly as flashy as the other machines spread along the walls—power boxes, reader systems, adjusting modules to control the conditions inside the-the thing—but stars, it was double as tall. The room was, mostly, white and bare, devoid of so much as a window, and the cylinder was lengthy. And yet, the machine still somehow looked cramped. Maybe only three times as wide as the child inside, if that much at all. He felt claustrophobic just from looking at it.
Nuray was still light in her tone when she answered, “Not really.”
He sucked in a breath. He was glad this wasn’t the place he was going to work in. The tour was starting to make him the slightest bit nauseous, he thought. He’d rather get going to wherever would be his actual office soon. The doctor glanced down at her watch, then, but not much longer than five minutes had passed. He wished she would have them move on already. Instead, she walked up to the control panel right at the base of the cylinder. “Is she—” he followed, awkward. He couldn’t pry his eyes away from the kid inside. Barely a gown protected her form. “—Is she listening? Can she hear us?”
A chuckle. He tried not to feel demeaned. Nuray tapped on the screen, who lifted itself to be better angled to her position. He wished he was more mesmerized by that than he was at the thick wires surrounding the girl.
A little red light he hadn’t previously noticed flicked off from the panel. “Now she can.”
He could almost see it when it happened. The damp, isolated environment behind the thick glass lost all of its muffling at once. A violent flinch ran through her body, almost a spasm. He couldn’t help but recoil. Nuray didn’t seem to mind either reaction. She tapped a couple more spots on the screen, moving bars and sweeping sections. As she worked, she called, “Ev?” The girl shifted inside the chamber. It was almost like a slumber twitch, but the impression was fading fast. “Want to say hello to our new employee?”
Something heavy settled over him, a weight to the atmosphere. He watched, with dawning horror, when she opened her eyes.
It took them a dazed moment to lock, hollow, onto his.
He flinched a step back.
Eliah Nuray kept speaking. “As I was saying, most of the time you won’t have to come to the prime room, but it’s good to drop by and check up on it every now and then. There have been cases where the readings have just been completely off—you can ask Beatris, from your department. Utter disaster. I think she’s booked the same days as you are—though they are usually reliable. Evangeline?” The girl’s irises slowly flicked from him to the woman. There was something pained about her expression. He felt a surge of self-consciousness. Was this embarrassing, for her? Uncomfortable? He would be, in her position. Nuray never looked up from her screen. She seemed pensive. “This reminds me. You have a session booked with Dr. Marcus later on. Don’t forget it; we’ve scheduled harvest earlier this year. I recall we’re nearly done here.” The girl closed her eyes in acknowledgment. He realized he hadn’t ever stopped staring. He made his gaze drop to the side. A few more swipes and clicks, and Nuray dismissed the monitor. She adjusted the suit over her shoulders, shooting him a smile. “Now,” she said, seemingly ignorant to the trapped girl behind her or the dazed hire in front of her. “Should we continue with the offices downstairs?”
-—-
Evangeline felt the familiar drop in pressure around her as the tank emptied, the water sucked off to the bottom. They didn’t fully fall forward to its border when their feet softly dropped to the ground. That was progress, to be honest. By now, they were mostly used at this.
Still, it took two of the supervisors to come and release the glass wall for them to actually make themselves get moving and remove the mask. The clips had unattached themselves on their own. Ev ignored the nauseating ache the drain left on their body, and stepped out of the platform.
Somebody offered her a towel. Oh, yeah. Her brain caught up to the fact that she was soaked. Her hair and clothes dripped down her shoulders. It felt cold, almost.
The girl’s feet were wet against the pristine, white floor when she walked up to them. The towel was soft against her cheek. Ev sucked in a breath through her teeth.
Even this light of a touch hurt. Like hell. She dazedly stared at the door. They’d kill for a break right now. Die for one, maybe. Eliah’s words rang in her mind, as sharp and piercing as the overwhelming emptiness on her bones was.
You have a session booked with Dr. Marcus later on.
They’d have forgotten about it, had she not mentioned it. For one moment, they allowed themself to crumble a little bit. The hand gripped tight on the towel it held. Ev’s body didn’t move. The pain washed through, like a sea tide wanting to pull her under. It filled her brain with static. She felt she’d fall if she so much as took a single step forward. She briefly considered storming into Eli’s office and begging for the sweet, sweet release of being put down. It’d give her a couple hours of respite. It would shake all of this off. They felt a shiver running up their hands. Ev bit the inside of her mouth.
She gave the towel back to the supervisor. Dr. Marcus always got frustrated when she showed up all dirty. They supposed a shower was all the break they were going to get.
As they left the room, backed by the two adults, staring at the numbers going down in the elevator, they wondered if they could get away with drowning themself before they could stop them. Eliah would be mad when they woke up.
They pressed a hand over their heart. The pulse was steady. Only slightly weak from the drain. Beating, relentless. Stupid, living organ. They’d kill for having a break from it. However brief.
does eliah care abt ev in any shape form capability??? D: read todays febuwhump like damm its so. normalized :( eliah wont even bother with a little painkiller asjdksosld
She...sorta does? In her mind, it's like "I mean. Shrugs. She'll be fine. She's tough, after all" which. Eeeehhhhhhhhhhh. Hm. This is actually the topic of febuwhump day 5 which is kinda drafted alr but i wanna look at it more carefully so it isnt posted yet aksnsjdb. But I think Ev does matter to her. Were they to be in actual danger—Eliah would go out of her way to get her back to safety. She doesnt spare efforts when matters is Ev sometimes; but it all depends on what she thinks matters in regards to Ev. She has a nice, big room, but no windows because they "lost the privilege to it" (defenestrated themself to get out of a procedure once) (maybe more than once). Whenever Ev spends too long without eating, Eliah will tell her to eat in no unclear terms because she doesn't approve of it. It's a little more like caring for her as if she's property than she is somebody with actual feelings. Eli takes the big sister thing very seriously but what she considers to be "seriously" is not very. Ideal.
