i had a very specific view for eli im glad i managed to draw it as i'd imagined 🙏 bless pinterest i could find multiple references for the kind of business attire she wears + her haircut. this isnt what she wears to just lounge at home tho. now that i think about it i wonder what it is........
eliah is very cool :) shes like. just cool. she can usually give off a Very charismatic vibe + is a renowed name in the field of like magic research..... sometimes she shows up at the local university to drop some lectures the people love her. professor nuray has like a very good image as an approachable woman and she can act very good with children. her smile is only half fake but it's really really warming, no wonder evangeline loves it. but eli can be pretty cold too
evangeline also usually goes for like, more baggy tomboy-ish vibes but this also fits her style :) i have pinterest boards for ev here and for eliah here
i do think eliah has some kind of master's degree or maybe a doctorate but i have no idea what it is in. also it is worth noting half the brilliant progress she has been able to make in testing her wonderful theories on the way magical energy (teiman) works and how it interacts with non-magical energy etc etc. has mostly been made possible by the whole. unethical experiments on unwilling subjects with cool powers :) she has her whole lab team of course but she's still the boss of all of them
OH OH and im not sure i mentioned it before but in their setting i call magic "teiman" :D i had made it up on the spot some years ago (before i had ev or eliah) but retroactively i decided that, in-universe, it is somehow derived from the greek "thauma", meaning miracle.

She...sorta does? In her mind, it's like "I mean. Shrugs. She'll be fine. She's tough, after all" which. Eeeehhhhhhhhhhh. Hm. This is actually the topic of febuwhump day 5 which is kinda drafted alr but i wanna look at it more carefully so it isnt posted yet aksnsjdb. But I think Ev does matter to her. Were they to be in actual danger—Eliah would go out of her way to get her back to safety. She doesnt spare efforts when matters is Ev sometimes; but it all depends on what she thinks matters in regards to Ev. She has a nice, big room, but no windows because they "lost the privilege to it" (defenestrated themself to get out of a procedure once) (maybe more than once). Whenever Ev spends too long without eating, Eliah will tell her to eat in no unclear terms because she doesn't approve of it. It's a little more like caring for her as if she's property than she is somebody with actual feelings. Eli takes the big sister thing very seriously but what she considers to be "seriously" is not very. Ideal.

1. What does your character's laugh sound like?
Oh :)
Espa - it sounds subtle and brief. More a snicker than an actual laugh. But it's genuine. It might sound like she's making fun of you. It might be true.
Ev - they rarely laugh :´) when they do, it doesn't even sound happy. It's tired, strained, devoid of joy. You'd think that since she's such an expressive kid, she would laugh more but... no. When was the last time she did it for real, though? Maybe she was really little. It used to sound like a giddy giggle.
8. Someone shows your character a photograph on themselves when they were five. How do they react? What is the picture like?
Espa - They stare at it for a second. It's a little hard to comprehend.
If it was five, it was one year before it all started. Before the Dove got her from her parents. She was probably at her grandmother's lap, while said parents were at work. Out in the street while the neighbour's kids played, maybe. The woman was just there to watch them. She didn't want to play, just wanted granny's hug. Someone asked it to smile to send it to her mom, for her to know what her kid had been up to during the day. So they're taken off guard by the photo. Head half turned in the direction of the camera, with wide eyes and a confused face. dfghj it's cute. Espa looks at it and can't stop moving her eyes from her face to the old woman that holds her. She tries to remember. It's a little bit distressing. They shouldn't even bother, theorically. It can't help but be very drawn to it.
Emotions wise, maybe a very subtle ache it doen't exactly notice. It's a bit of confusion. Logically, they know there was something before - not that it was of any importance. It's stunning to actually put her eyes on it. Eery. Like it's from an alternate universe. If they try, they might remember a bit from this person. They're so detached from their past that it doesn't actually bring many emotions besides weird. They don't recall the day at all.
Did it even exist?
Ev - That would be before they died for the first time, I think! She thinks she was a cute toddler, though she wouldn't ever wear that kind of dress anymore. Her own self isn't even what takes her attention in the photo. It's who she's with.
It might be her parents, now that I think of it. I haven't figured out much of them yet, but I think they abandoned her and her sister or had some sort of untimely demise - cue why she was raised by Eliah. Ev has mixed feelings. These people are estranged to her. Maybe a bit of resentment. But can you really resent somebody you don't even care about? So it might be mixed in with a little of apathy. She wishes Eliah was in the picture with them instead. She also has her mother's eyes, she notices.
The picture itself might be something taken before a formal event. The adults are well-dressed, and little Evangeline is all dolled up. They kneel on each side of them, posing them to look at the camera. They have a pretty red dress with a bow at the waist. It's a bit weird to see her own hair like that - done up in a pretty bun with a hairclip - without the shaved edges.
She faintly remembers the day. Maybe it was a relative's birthday? Or maybe Christmas. Yeah, they think it was christmas.

Espa - yes :) whenever the weapons are not on a mission that disturbs it or something of that nature, schedule looks moreso like this:
5:00 - wake up, warmup, shower, breakfast. In that order.
9:00 - typically, morning training. the exact time may vary.
11:00 - another, smaller meal! (rations.) they have to be kept well-fed
13:00 (1pm) - meal (lunch. though it's not food. it's rations. again.)
17:00 (5pm) - afternoon training
19:00 (7pm) - meal (dinner)
22:00 (10pm) - sleep
whenever they have "free time", it's usually used with uh. more training, esp if they are at the base, or then working on the current mission if it doesn't require more of their time. or being corrected, if the handler deemed necessary that day.
also don't quote me on this <3 i hate numbers and mess up exact times like this often so there might be some inconsistencies. but yeah! it's basically that.
Ev - they might, though i'm not sure how it is yet. neither if she attends school, or when. i do know that there are a few yearly matters she must conform to :]
-> around august (might or not change) - "harvest season". aka um. a week or two in which ev is kept in the lab and they extract body parts for selling :`) she hates, despises harvest season. eliah might have to start cancelling it, actually, because it worsens every mental issue ("episodes" or "acting out") that ev has and she doesn't want her that unstable?
-> the few business travels her sister wants her to join + some galas to accompany her, sometimes! they are more frequent in given times of the year.
i also think evangeline's schedule, whenever their sister isn't home is a bit. loose. she doesn't eat on time - when eliah is there she always makes sure they do. when they don't it might be sign of an aforementioned, quote unquote, 'episode'. - she is not very punctual and the house staff can't get her to do what they want, if it's not an order from her sister. maybe a few routine check-ups. i think ev has a lot of free time when they're not in the lab. though...they might actually be on the lab a lot. most days of the week i feel like. so those are her rest days.
okay so. Dimitri. theyve been rotating in my head on and off even though im not actively working on their stuff- hes from the same wip as ev, right? the meine one. Dimitri is raised as a sort of living weapon/guard dog for NAIPE (the villain organization thingy that eliah is the boss of), so she starts out as an antagonist who chases off the protagonist, and then eventually turns coat and joins their side. Dimitri is not the only 'guard dog' though, so to speak; Eliah has a protegee, a slightly older guy named Nosac. Nosac's situation is complicated (read: i haven't figured it out yet) but hes sort of... in there willingly? he has a lot more agency and is both a shitty older brother figure to Dimitri and a handler, at times. he looks out for them, trains them, sets an example, all the while both do their jobs of like hunting down children or killing off people who pissed off Eliah in a meeting or just standing behind her and looking menacing and stuff.
Nosac is a much more... powerful? agent than Dimitri is, and she recognizes that. unlike him, this is all it's ever known, and theyre supposed to be good at it. they have some self-worth issues about it and doesnt really help that Nosac's constant criticism of their performance during spars or training and stuff keeps ringing on their head whenever they make a mistake. Dimitri is scarily efficient, especially from the main characters' pov during aforementioned being-hunt-down arc, and its power is nothing short of powerful either. (it's called the copycat :D you can pretty much guess, but it makes her able to just scan and mimic anybody's link in a blink basically.) still, they arent fully wrong when they compare themself to Nosac: he is stronger. When it joins the mc's side, first thing it does is to warn them of him. You thought *i* gave you a tough time? Oh yeah hes 100% gonna kill us all. And I think the main difference is just... Nosac wasn't forced onto this. Sure, he goes through moreso the same ruthless training and stuff, but he both got to sign up to it + probably could arrange to sign off if he wanted (he IS eliah's protegee after all). he wants to be here. he had a choice. Dimitri was forced into this from very early on and theyre constantly under duress. She actually becomes sort of stronger when she's in the recovery era? He takes on ballet maybe and has a support network and friends and more autonomy and freedom and are not being constantly retraumatized and forced into stuff that makes them want to die. Recovery Dimitri 100% can beat NAIPE-era Dimitri, and for the same reason Nosac could beat them back them

i dont think i have much more about eliah but i do have a very long ellipsus document about evangeline's power :)
ive said before that it's called "Osiris' Law" in relation to the undead god of the underworld in egyptian mythology and it basically brings ev back from the dead 👍 yay. it works by regenerating whatever part was damaged and then waking her up. here's some of its properties
marbling - the part that is regenerated gets this sort of scarring, whitening look. it looks like some very pale scars indicating the places she's died before because! i think they got one around their neck. quite some over their heart. ev doesn't have other scars, i think, their body sort of resets a bit when they come back because it is Restoring All The Damage. so the only 'scars' she's got are the ones from dying. she still has quite a few
when evangeline dies, she doesn't exactly immediately blacks out. she just stays in this half-counscious semi-awake limbo where she can't move, but can feel and think. so, for about fifteen seconds after their body dies, ev is still sort of awake and Osiris' Law hasn't started repairing them yet. it's sorta scary and if the death hurt then for those fifteen seconds she is 👍 in pain. trapped in their own body sort of thing. these fifteen seconds are tortuously long sometimes
depending on the amount and kind of damage, it takes around a few hours for evangeline to come back! she will wake up shortly before being completely healed, a good ten minutes or so, and being counscious while their body finishes patching itself up (just like, some finishing touches) is sort of nauseating. ev is usually lightheaded when they come back. they can usually get up and move shortly after the power does its job, but depending on how they died, they might need to lay down for a while. it shakes them up.
PHANTOM PAINS. they get phantom pains :) if they were burned alive it still hurts when they come back. they will go away on their own eventually but the worst it hurt when they died the longer it will take.
there is also a neat trick regarding those that if evangeline dies a second time, before the phantom pains fully fade, the pain of the new death overwrites the first. so they can brute-force them away by dying a second time! eliah doesn't always allow it. they've disobeyed her about it a lot of times. they just can't handle it and they need it gone
sometimes eliah lets her though 👍 yay. she gives permission for ev's nurses to use The Syringue™ on them which is basically painless euthanazia. it gets rid of any residual pain from the last death by overwriting it with a painless death. ev is very much a fan of The Syringue
sometimes ev's body kind of turns off. she will be randomly blacking out for a couple minutes every now and then at because her brain hasn't properly noticed that she is alive. mostly a side effect of dying so much. these little episodes are harmless, if only bring the risk of falling and hitting her head, and she cannot feel them coming at all. sometimes it's really frustrating because she could be back minutes or full hours after.
eliah has a team of people monitoring and studying etc ev's power to do their little evil things (for Science™) so they have catalogued a lot of Osiris' Law and how it works!
for example, they call ev's occasional blacking out occurences "ticaic lapses". from the greek tychaíos, that means "random". they call the time in which ev is dead, but regenerating, a "detanatia state" (from the preffix de- undo + thanatos, greek for death) AND they got a thing they call "Iunctire Effect" as well and ev hates this latter with their entire being. i like making up words
i also think they call ev's phantom pains "DPMs" (dolor post-mortem, ie. "oh the patient has reported significant distress due to DPM following ressurrection" to put in a little evil science report yknow) but im not sure of how much i like that so it's still just an idea
in this setting, a person's link usually manifests at like five or six, but ev didn't find out that they were immortal until like, eight? when they got caught in a house fire. they died, came back, and were in a lot of pain, due to the phantom pain thing. it was the first and one of her most traumatizing deaths and she was a little catatonic for a while after. ev still hates fire. eliah threatens burning her alive when she misbehaves too much. it sends them into a blind panic
oh yeah eliah's evil scientist team was also the one that named ev's link! but she let ev help choosing :)

Ev plays with the hem of her shirt. You see her clenching her jaw.
"I - I, sometimes I don't." Their voice is low. "Don't tell Eli."
When you press them for a while, they snap.
"I don't like them, okay?"
Them?, you ask, curious.
"...The nightmares." She looks down, seeming annoyed at your insistence. "I prefer to just stay awake."
2. ...Where do you sleep? Whumpee, are you trusted with whumper's answer?
"In my room," she answers, bouncing her legs. "Sometimes. Sometimes it's in the labs. Or then, it's in the..." their voice trails off. They become more tense in a sudden.
She breathes deeply in and out, shaky. A pitiful attempt to regain composure. It's noticeable. "Nevermind, actually. I don't need to tell you. You're not the boss of me."
You raise an eyebrow, but remind her of the other part of the question. They know that one.
"Eli barely sleeps in hers," she tells, shrugging. "It's mostly at hotels in business travels. But she always gets a wide room with a double bed. She sleeps with the curtains closed. And doesn't like it when the sheets are too light."

Ev looks away, ashamed.
"...A few times. I didn't meant to. It just - sometimes I can't -" they bite the inside of their lip, searching for the right words. They play with their bangs.
"Eli is a good sister." Her voice is tender. Adoring. "She always asks if I've slept, or eaten, or stuck to the schedule. I - I don't want to make her upset by telling the truth." There's a frown in their face, now. "But sometimes I just... I just can't. It makes her upset. But she doesn't always need to know, okay? If I could stop going... going like that, I would."
14. What's your biggest regret?
They blink.
That looks like a hard one. Evangeline thinks it over, crossing their legs.
"...I don't know. Maybe - maybe the first time I made her use the - the Chamber." Their gaze strays far away for a moment. Their body is worringly still. "I wished I didn't force her hand to it."
"It always hurts too much after. Her - that time, I bitched too much and she didn't let me have relief." Her voice is dark. "It stuck. For more than a month. I don't whine like that anymore."

espa was originally born more to the south! we're currently in the northeast, one of the warmest areas in the whole country, but she was born in a state called minas gerais. it's way cooler over there and there they lived for like five brief but joyful years. once captured, they were "transferred" - the dove tends to do that to avoid families from finding the children - way up the north. that's probably why espa is naturally more a fan of the cold. it doesn't like the scorching sun of the little fictional state the story is set in at all.
evangeline... OH i know. ☝ her immortality power is called Osiris' Law. osiris the egyptian god of the underworld who died and came back. in the myth, his own brother was the one who killed him so i thought it was fitting. there's a little huh feature of the power that makes it so the pain of a death lingers when they come back. ev has to usually wait it out until they're free of pain. if they die two times over a short period of time, the pain sort of adds up. you can keep going with that, actually! it becomes unbearable. just be careful and don't let the cooldown period pass or else it doesn't add to the combo. that kind of layered phantom pain sticks. for a while. not even her usual strategies to soothing it out work when it's like this.
that's also the basic mechanism behind what eliah gets done to them in what she calls "the chamber" 👍
oh and they also really really love cold desserts. and putting stickers on everything

Espa seems a bit uncomfortable. Its eyes dart around, not laying near its handler.
"Nothing in particular," they say, at last. Posture stiff, as always. Its words are clear, but there's a shyness behind them. Ann stares at her, seeming midly annoyed. Espa, skillfuly, hides a flinch. "It's not my business."
The woman shrugs. "Me neither. She knows to answer whenever I ask. Besides, there isn't anything really noteworthy going on in that head, so." Ann doesn't actually believe that, but she doesn't give it much thought. Espa doesn't refute it, either.
13. Name one of the other persons favourite things.
"Sweets," says the weapon. After a pause, they complete, "Books, too." Ann glares at it, as if it was some sort of well-guarded secret. Espa still doesn't look at her. "But mostly sweets. Chocolate and candies."
Ann clenches her jaw, but doesn't reply. She looks...mildly sleepy today, actually.
"Hell if I know," she represses a yawn, as if being here is the last thing in her list of wishes. "That cape of hers, probably."
At that, almost imperceptively, its fingers clench onto the yellow fabric. As if they are mildly scared of letting go.

Ann scoffs. "Incompetence."
Espa gives her a subtle sideways glance. They slightly open their mouth, but then seem to think better.
"There's no use in annoying Miss Ann," it dodges. "But you would do good avoiding being late. Taking too much of her time." The handler has her arms crossed. With the last amount of subtlety, she brushes her arms as she gives a nod.
After another second, you think the weapon is about to add something else, but they decide against it.

Ev sways her feet over the ground. They don't look like they want to answer. Eliah Nuray raises an eyebrow at her.
"If I," they cave, defeated, biting the inside of their mouth. "If I'm good, can I have a free month? Without dying? Or a week?" Her voice is small. "For like, a break?" They look up expectantly at their sister. They turn unexpectedly skittish at her presence.
Nuray makes a dismissing gesture. "You're already good, Ev," their face seems to relax at the praise, "but you know I can't give you that. Your responsabilities are too important. Maybe sometime else."
Bedrudgingly, Evangeline nods. She deflates, but she doesn't look like she'd expected another answer.
"Oh, me?" Nuray scratches her chin. She turns to her sibling. "Ev," calls the woman, "there's something I just can't understand." Evangeline seems to slightly tense up on her seat. "You were just back from another episode. Why do you do that?" The woman sounds frustrated. Annoyed. "It's like you have no consideration for what I do for you." The kid is incredibly still in her position. "I know you don't like it, but next time you put it up, I'm afraid I'll have to put you in the Chamber."
Ev visibly flinches at that. She looks up at Nuray, her eyes wide. She is biting on her lip.
"I'm sorry," they sound like they mean it. "I don't know why. I'll stop."
Nuray looks away with a sigh. They both know this will probably become a lie.

"The Syringue," Nuray answers, without missing a beat. Ev seems to flush, playing with a lock of their bangs. They don't deny it. "And gemstones. They can talk about them all day." Something that looks like a smile — or a chuckle? — graces her lips. "I'm thinking of giving her an encyclopedia as a reward sometime."
Ev visibly perks up at that.
"Really?"
"Answer yours," the sister dodges. They bite their lip, thinking, before giving their answer:
"Iced tea by the mornings, or her gray suit. The black one is too gloomy. The white is too tacky, she says. And early autumn. Eli likes the weather," she lists. "The beach, too, though not actually entering in the sea." Ev looks at Nuray. "She prefers staying by the shadow."

"When I—when I am difficult," you see her sinking her nails into her arms. You don't think she's noticed it. "...And when business isn't going well," they add, a something heavy dawning over their voice. You aren't sure of how the state of Nuray's business affects her at all.
Evangeline glances up nervously at her sister. They don't actually meet her face.
