he doesn‘t need to choose, he has two hands.
Orpheus: so let me get this straight. You want me to convince Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary to kill herself. And then you'll give me Eurydice back?
Der Tod: korrekt :)
Orpheus: who the fuck even is that
Der Tod Blowing Bubbles
I always found the original plaster work kind of silly and profound at the same time :))

'Death Blowing Bubbles'
18. century, located in the Holy grave chapel, Bamberg, Germany
The bubbles are meant to symbolize life's fragility.
not even sisi can resist the power of a pretty catboy
The Vienna 2000s revival of Der Schleier Fällt is so good. The acting, staging, singing, every last thing. Elisabeth walks fast towards der Tod, then hesitates right in front of him, then throws her arms around him, finally allowing herself something she's always wanted. Der Tod looks amazed, like he can't believe he's finally holding her in his arms, touching her, feeling her close. He trembles a little bit when his hand settles between her shoulder blades. The forehead lean. The way he caresses her face so lightly while she sings. He actually, genuinely smiles for a moment. And of course Maya and Maté's voices are perfect.
something about the old age makeup on everyone but elisabeth and der tod in the 2005 Vienna proshot. something about how the rest of the world goes on its way and she stays static. something about how there's only one other character like that.
