((Note: this was requested as a Shepard/Garrus prompt.))(My character has a dream about yours (In this case, Eli has requested Garrus)))
The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep,And miles to go before I sleep ...
Once her favorite words, they seemed to taunt her now. Night and day (though mostly at night), she was haunted. The face of the little boy she couldn't save. She wondered sometimes if she'd ever really seen him, or if he'd been a figment of her imagination- just another person she'd failed to save. Another face to fight for.
But every night, he came back to her. He led her through the forest, always just out of her reach, always bursting into unforgiving flame just as she reached him. She heard the voices of those long gone and of those who'd yet to fall, the voices constantly changing. But the one thing that had never changed was that aside from the boy, and the endless stream of dark shadows, she was alone.
Alone, and constantly plagued by unshakable fear.
Tonight, as she ran through the forest chasing the boy who she'd never catch, it was the disembodied voice of Mordin Solus that called out to her. He told her to be strong, told her that it had to be her- anyone else would get it wrong. But when his voice faded it was replaced with another voice, one much closer.
"Shepard." This voice lacked the emptiness that made the former voice so painful. It was closer than the other voices, practically right in her ear. "Kaylin."
She slowed her pace and let her hand fall, no longer pursuing the child. She turned and found Garrus was standing behind her, close enough that she could hear each breath and watch the steady rise and fall of his chest. His hand reached down and took hers, three large turian fingers curling easily over her smaller human hand.
"I'm right here."
His eyes were deep and endless blue, growing more blue by the second. No, this wasn't right- they weren't deepening, they were ... glowing? This was wrong. His grip on her hand tightened, pushing upward against her shoulder as Garrus' features began to twist and contort. His fringe seemed to turn into metal, extending into sharp barbs; metal tubing appeared from under his skin, winding like snakes and finding their way back into his skin with a sick hissing noise.
She fell to her knees and cried out as he continued to push backwards and she could feel her wrist beginning to give under the pressure. His plating thickened and his cowl dissolved into a metallic ring. Though his eyes had been the first to show signs of changing, they were the last to show signs of consciousness and a soft sob escaped her as she watched the last hint of Garrus flicker and die in the Marauder's eyes.
He opened his mouth as if to speak, but the voice that she heard was not the voice of the man she loved, but a voice that had haunted her for years. "You will die, Shepard," Sovereign promised.
She didn't scream when she woke, though not for lack of trying. It was as if all air had been stolen from her lungs and despite her efforts, she couldn't make a sound. She was sitting upright now, one hand clenching her chest as the other searched the bed next to her only to find it empty, then unsuccessfully tried to catch her balance behind her. She fell off the bed, tangled in sheets, her chest heaving either with sobs or failed attempts at screams.
Haunted by the image that was now burned into her mind, the sight of Garrus turning into a Marauder, she pulled up her omnitool and sent a quick message.
[MESSAGE] Need you
Whether she'd actually sent the message or if this was just a continuation of her sick dream, she couldn't be sure. Her nails dug into her chest as if she was trying to rip her ribcage open and manually force her lungs to contract. Each second that passed seemed to take hours, until her omnitool finally lit up.
[REPLY] I'm on my way.
Finally, her chest rose, accompanied by the sound of a sharp intake of air, followed immediately by the unforgiving sobs which consumed her.
And miles to go before I sleep.

"Well, you'd think I'd be used to this by now, but I guess that's not the case." She sighed, rolling her shoulders as she glanced upon the other women decked in familiar armor and purpose like fire. "I'd go through the pleasantries of rank and title, but you know all that already. Name's Iveline, call me Ivi."
hair pulling
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know |
"More like grabbing, though. I don't enjoy when it's pulled so hard that it gives me whiplash, but there's something really carnal about having his fingers tangled in my hair."
elishepard started following you
Shepard glanced up at the red-headed woman, "Oh, hello, did you need something?"
