Holby City S19E47 - Keep On Running
The BBC synopsis for this episode suggested that Lofty would finally be forced to confront his feelings for Dominic. Did that happen? Really? Ok, so he interfered a bit with Dom’s new bloke. He was worried when he didn’t know if Dom was hurt. He pulled a couple of constipated faces through the course of the episode, suggestive of the fact that he might be having a few moments of jealousy. But I’m going to put myself out there and say that there are different kinds of jealousy, and he might just be worried he’s going to get to spend less time with his mate if Dom dives head first into a full on relationship. I guess, what I’m trying to say, is that I didn’t really see much confronting of feelings. And although a little let down as I had expectations because of the synopsis, I’m ok with that. Maybe they’re not rushing to shoehorn in the next gay relationship quite as fast as I feared.
Jac Naylor was outstandingly awesome in this episode. Her sharp ripostes give me life, and in the absence of the characters who I’m completely gaga about, my crush on Jac is just exploding. This, of course, was the first step in the upcoming thing between Jac and Fletch. And I’m sorry to say, that I’m still as icked about it now, having seen them together on screen, as I was in theory. (Somebody somewhere did make the comment that the actors had worked together in a previous show and had a long term affair on that, though, so I guess the writers are capitalising on a pre-existing chemistry). Random thought, can anyone imagine Jac as a parent to Fletch’s 4? Jac and Evie? Jac and Mikey??!! I suppose it would make for some cracking humour. But regardless of my feelings on impending storylines, tonight, as always, Jac Naylor was my queen.
Guy Self. It’s interesting, formerly when he was a full time cast member, I had a lot of feelings about him (pretty much all of them bad!). But this time round, apart from a brief pondering on who I dislike more (Guy or Nina the Snake - yup, still Guy), and being impressed by the levels to which he continues to sink, I just don’t have the same depth of feeling/reaction to him. In fact, I’d go so far as to say he’s a bit meh. Just hoping he’s not brought on to split up Zosia and Ollie, I do like that girl and I think she deserves some stability.
The Director of Nursing interviews. Whilst I’m still the teeniest bit sore that Raf’s ‘helping out’ on Keller turned into a permanent thing, I’m quite enjoying the ward shuffle that’s going on at the moment. Of course, Fletch was a shoe in for the position, will Essie now move wards too?
Brief comment on the woman COTW. Really nice to see Eve Matheson in Holby. Used to watch her, years ago, on a comedy called May To December. Random fact of the day!!!
Love Ella’s question - ‘Is that Jacula?!’
Final thoughts: Why have Holby not released their Autumn trailer??!! Is there something they’re trying to keep under their hats?
Super excited for a Hanssen heavy ep next week. Just love Hanssen!
