Survivor by Ellemae sneak peek...

I'm working on chapter 3! Here's a sneak peek of what's to come.

Emma has had a low-grade fever for days, so she's not terribly surprised when she walks into the room to find Emma looking sweaty and out of sorts.

The doctors have assured her this sort of thing is normal, then again they got their medical degrees from a curse. She's not entirely sure why she's trusting them.

"Re-re-gina," Emma mumbles, and Regina is surprised to see that the girl's teeth are chattering. "I'm so cold."

She cautiously sits on the edge of the bed. 

Emma's eyes are squeezed shut, she's shivering, goosebumps clearly visible on her skin. 

Regina wonders if this is just the opposite of what's been happening for days - Emma's body so unable to regulate itself now that it's switching extremes.

A low groan from Emma pulls her from her thoughts.

"Emma," she asks, concern ripe in her voice.

"I," Emma blinks her eyes open slowly, looking completely shocked.

When the spell drops them in the middle of a tavern in the 1800's, Regina simply rolls her eyes. "Typical," she mutters, as she yanks Emma away from a mug of foul looking ale that seems to have a caught her eye. "Miss Swan," she hisses, "do you want to get dysentary?" "Um," Emma shakes her head, "no?" And Regina rolls her eyes again.

Of course the Charmings have appeared with them. Of course. At least Henry's there. His enthusiasm for the little boys running around with guns, shooting at cans, is not only completely inappropriate, but also somewhat endearing. That doesn't mean she avoids using her mom voice to corral him.

She has a feeling she'll be doing a lot of corralling, when she realizes they're stuck in a task spell. The only way out is to complete a task, and this one appears to be a real-life version of The Oregon Trail.

"Hey!" Emma exclaims with Regina's realization. "We played that in school sometimes."

Regina sighs and Emma stiffens just for a second before Regina’s hand reaches out and strokes her cheek.

"You are good."

And Emma tilts her head up and makes cautious eye contact. "Yeah?"

"You don’t need to try so hard."

"Oh." It is said very very softly and Emma seems to deflate in front of her.

"Oh no, oh Emma," she reaches out and wraps her arm around Emma’s waist, nuzzles into Emma’s neck for once. "My Emma. You are perfect for me."

She can feel Emma’s hot breath puffing against her cheek and just holds her and when she finally lets go Emma’s eyes are glistening with tears and she is looking at Regina like she is her whole world

and if Regina could love anyone in that moment, well, it ought to be obvious.
