I wrote a thing, it's based on "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron. Ummm...I'm sorry in advance. It's sad. ***** All Tony didn't know how he'd gotten this lucky. He had never met anyone like Bruce. He was gone, lost to everything Bruce was, before they even shook hands. Everyone thought he was arrogant, that he could get whatever...whoever he wanted. But Tony knew better. He knew that when it really mattered no one stayed. But Bruce, he promised everything he could give. In harsh moans as their bodies moved against each other, in smiles over team meals, in whispered words in the middle of the night. And Tony believed him, would always believe him. Knew that there would be an end to what Bruce could or would give, Bruce's hesitation in planning the future and his reminders that he never stayed anywhere. But Tony didn't know how to do anything partway and he held nothing back in loving Bruce. Most Tony had known Bruce would leave. That he wouldn't have all of him forever, he was...not prepared, but braced for it. What he wasn't prepared for was having to watch him slowly pull away without leaving. Arrogance, he figured. Everyone accused him of and apparently it was more true than they realized. Tony had figured Bruce would only leave him because he had to, because he felt unsafe or cornered by Ross. It had never occurred to him that Bruce would stay, but would lose interest. He didn't know it had happened until Bruce fell asleep. Such a simple thing, but Bruce had always given him his full attention. Bruce's gaze was like the sun shining on your face on a cold day. It was everything and then, when Bruce looked away... They kept up appearances for awhile.Tony wouldn't let go until he had to and Bruce staying because he did love Tony, would always love Tony. But he'd seen too much of what relationships could do and he was broken inside, unable to stay for long. Some It has been fully over for awhile when Tony watched, feeling like be was in Jello, as Nat and Bruce danced around each other. Bruce playing coy and letting Natasha think she was chasing him. He was the only one who could pull something like that over on her. It was one of the things Tony lov...appreciated about him. Tony watched and he smiled like he wasn't dead inside and he had another drink. None It was over. All of it. Tony wasn't sure his life hadn't ended. Usually Bruce...no, he's not coming. Or JARVIS, nope. Well...there's FRIDAY to tweak and get to know. But no one who knows him. He's alone and he's not surprised that he's alone because he knew from the start that it wouldn't last, that none of it would last, but he didn't know that he'd forget how to breathe. He didn't know. He asks FRIDAY to play the rhythmic drumming that Bruce had taught him to sync his breaths to. In, out, in, out. He takes a day, one full 24 hour period. He doesn't eat. He barely drinks. He leaves his bed only to pee, nothing else. He does literally nothing. No designing, no programming, no TV. FRIDAY asks him if he's ok every couple of hours when he's awake, he refuses to answer. She's not JARVIS. She's not Bruce. Why is she talking to him? She must monitor his vitals because she leaves him be outside of what she deems necessary checks. Then, after 24 hours, he gets up and he watches the sunrise. And he keeps going.
