Price of a Soul: A Guardian Collection - by Sylvandreams

I kind of kicked off my bookbinding by just. Making so many anthologies. These two Guardian fics by @elvencantation explore just how far Shen Wei would go to save Zhao Yunlan, and I pulled the anthology title from both summaries.

Frozen in Jade - Ever since they’d come back from that horrible mission, Kunlun has been… different. Shen Wei shouldn’t expect a god to confide in him, but-- there is something about Kunlun and how he treats Shen Wei differently than other people. -or- What price did Kunlun pay to save Shen Wei's life?

The Lonely Road that Brings Me Home - Shen Wei feels a stabbing pain in his chest. There’s so much noise, everything is moving, and it hurts to breathe. It hurts to breathe. It hurts to breathe. How is he breathing? -or- Zhao Yunlan sells his soul to the Hallows to bring Shen Wei back.

This was my first quarto binding and it's such a cute small size! Learned things about making quartos that I'll change next time, but I'm super happy with how it turned out! I went for a tree theme again with the title pages and chapter headers (I don't keep choosing fics because they feature trees, promise, it just keeps happening) and I picked cover papers based on the vibes of the parent material. Black, blue, and purple with lots of gold accents just felt right.

I had a lot of fun creating this one, not only because I love the fics (they're very good please check them out!), but also because @elvencantation has become a good fandom friend (I found her on Ao3 and tumblr separately, and didn't realize she had written one of my favorite fics in the fandom until she reposted a link to it MONTHS later, and I said 'wait a minute...') and it was a joy to be able to turn her lovely stories into a physical book!

what do you think about the greatest showman?

10/10. Loved how the women were all in extremely modern couture dresses while the men's costumes- though not historically accurate -still at least looked Not Current. Excellent use of the half-up hairstyle that was popular for ladies throughout all of western history until the 1920s. And honestly, P.T. Barnum was a wonderful person and deserves far more musicals uncritically praising him.

My one complaint is that they should have been less charitable towards Jenny Lind. I mean, she was a nasty home-wrecking Wanton(TM).

He supposes he hasn’t really let himself mourn. Does he still know how? Is he hurting himself just as much as the others, wearing the face of someone who’s sacrificed themselves and is suffering gods know where? He- he misses Zhao Yunlan. He misses his son.

Blue is one of my favourite people in Guardian fandom it’s taken me too long to acknowledge her fic as a fave.

This line may seem innocuous but I love it because it acknowledges Zhang Shi and Zhao Yunlan’s not simple relationship.

@yumbledore & @elvencantation I probably could...the thing is: we’re leaving on her birthday (September 18th), and I have so much to do up until then that I don’t know if I’d have the time to throw together something decent.

She’s getting a cake commissioned. One that’s way better than what I can do because it’s being made by an artisanal patissier. I’m not sure what the weather will be like when we’re driving, so I don’t know how I would even transport something like this.

As for a drawing...I wouldn’t even know what. Each time I ask, I get a shrug and a “Surprise me”, which is sweet, but not exactly helpful.
