The Darkling for the character thing 👀

WELL WELL WELL, who could have seen this coming?

How I feel about this character: He’s very hot and very bad. And very, very hot. And very bad! I love him, he’s a great seductive villain who is fascinating to read about and write and I think, as constructed, is an excellent example of his own brand of zealotry and self-delusion. Charm covers a lot, as it often does in real life with men like him, but he is not a real-life man, so tl;dr: ✨ problematic fave ✨

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Alina, kind of. Certainly I believe she is the only person he ships himself with, romantically (although whether love or obsession is a constant point of debate), but often (not OoT) when I imagine shippy fic involving him he’s a sexy detour on someone’s coming-of-age road. In most cases, I think you have to work really hard to create a situation where he and Alina can be together as equals, hence the convoluted premise of OoT.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I don’t have a lot of friendships for him, but I want to see the ✨ Sturmling dynamic ✨ in action real bad. also they can kiss that’s fine it’s not romantic necessarily

My unpopular opinion about this character: He’s such a polarizing character that every opinion I have about him will be unpopular in some camp? It’s fundamentally polarizing that I think he’s a bad guy but find him fascinating and want to write about him anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Let me be clear that I also don’t think it’s wrong to purely stan him or to hate him — he’s not a real, live man! — and I myself sometimes get fed up enough to joke that he has never done a thing wrong in his long, long life. uwu)

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Really wish he and Alina had actually Shadow and Boned.

my favorite female character: Inej, the Wraith, darling of my HEART. She’s such a wonderful character and grows so much by finding her purpose in life and making a deep connection with someone despite everything? She gets to be a slave hunter pirate AND gets her edgy bf, which is honestly goals. 

my favorite male character: Kaz Brekker, Dirtyhands, Bastard of the Barrel, Leader of the Dregs, Founder of the Crows, Shadyhands, the Barrel Bastard, the One who’s Hands are Dirty, Edgy Loser with Silly Hair, Inej’s Boyfriend.

my favorite book/season/etc: Crooked Kingdom, because so much wild shit happens and it never slows down and even when they get a moment to relax, Kaz and Jesper still have that fight and then the whole Kanej bathroom scene? Delightful

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): Netflix please just give me a trailer, I’m begging. 

my favorite cast member: Netflix please give me a trailer.

my favorite ship: Kanej, hands down. It’s about the growth.

a character I’d die defending: Honestly? Any of the crows, I’d kill for these kids. 

a character I just can’t sympathize with: Pekka Rollins can 1v1 me in a Denny’s parking lot

a character I grew to love: I’m not sure? I liked most from the start, but I guess Matthias or Wylan has really grown on me more than I thought? Like I kinda liked them in the beginning, but they grew and now I’m attached. 

my anti otp: Malina because S&S damage cannot be undone and to support Audrey.

Angel the Series for the ask meme thing 👀❤️

my favorite female character: with each rewatch I’ve loved Cordelia more and more, but it’s… complicated. She’s a character I like a lot, and that on paper I should gravitate towards above others, yet. I think it might be, in part, that I always knew what would happen to her and refused to get seriously invested LOL (I watched BTVS on tv as a child and practically unspoiled, but ATS years and years later). I also enjoy Lilah a lot, and LOVE Faith’s arc, small as it is.

my favorite male character: Angel and it’s not close. I like quite a few of the characters in the show, but the way Angel is crafted as a character, the way he works as a male lead… unparalleled.

my favorite book/season/etc: season 4. It has some of the most troubling stuff of the show, of course, but also concentrates some of my favourite things: Lilah/Wesley, the Angel-Faith-Wesley dynamic, Angelus’ return (with a gr10 example of a plot twist episode done right), Angelus-Connor… I love all the seasons in different ways but this is the one I find most interesting.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): toss up between “Epiphany” (2x16), “Forgiving” (3x17), and “Home” (4x22).

my favorite cast member: I think all of them do a great job tbh, but I just LOVE what Julie Benz brings to the screen. And her voice *-*

my favorite ship: Lilah/Wesley!!!! I also love Angel/Darla and Angel/Faith/Wesley but. LILAH/WESLEY. They’re the ones that reduce me to tears, so (IT MEANS SOMETHING THAT YOU TRIED).

a character I’d die defending: eh. I get defensive when I see someone interpreting a character in bad faith, but it just doesn’t come close to what I feel for, say, Buffy.

a character I just can’t sympathize with: honestly? Fred. It has less to do with her as a person (although she had some moments xD), and more with how she’s built as a character. The only moment where she felt ~real to me was the episode with her parents’ appearance. It was gutting (especially paired with everyone else’s reactions like. Huh. Good parents? Now THAT is something I’ve never seen before!! Añsdkfjasdf).

a character I grew to love: hmm… idk. Wesley, maybe? Full disclosure, I liked Wesley even back in his BTVS days lol, but the love part definitely came with ATS.

my anti otp: nothing goes that far. I dislike Fred/Wesley and the way the triangle was written definitely made me dislike Fred/Gunn, I don’t care for how Angel/Cordelia was developed as a romance outside a few key moments… but nothing as rage inducing as that.

Hmm. I don't know if the adjective fits any lol. Not because they're all particularly "dirty" but because innocent doesn't really jive with the show. I do think there's something... aspirational and romantic and sweet in how I imagine Maroon Queen/Mr. Scott, amidst all the horrors they suffered, that might be the best fit for this.

None really. I'll say Maxanor because I have complicated feelings about them, and had even more on first watch, but these days I would consider them one of my otps. Just one I never would've wanted to see together again lol.

Silvermadi. No doubt.

I love Maxanne (although sometime I wish the fandom talked more about its messy s1 aspects lol), but when it comes to romance in this show, my heart is on the Silver side of things xD. Specifically Silverflintmadi. There's no contest.

the first character I ever fell in love with: the first character that had “oh yeah, I’m gonna like this one” was Silver in his first moments, with the whole “so what if I’m a coward/I’m a great cook” stunt. But love with capital L, that was Max refusing Eleanor’s help at the end of 1x03.

a character that I used to love/like, but now do not: none, really. I mean, I’m fond of early seasons Billy and not so much of s4 Billy lol (it’s the beard smh), but I still love him as a character and think he made some points xD

a ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: none. With this show, I’ve gone to liking things more, not the other way around.

my ultimate favourite character™: Max, although Silver is another ultimate fave all around.

prettiest character: like with Reign, literally every woman hits a different spot -Max, Miranda, Idelle, Madi, Anne...- while the men have... nice personalities xDD

my most hated character: Peter Ashe is probably the one I find more hateful as a person. That slimy bastard.

my OTP: Silverflintmadi (although “shipping” is a bit off for this show tbh).

my NOTP: the ones that get closer to this (because I don’t really hate any pairing, there are just a few I don’t ever see working or as detrimental to one character in particular) are Silver/Thomas, Madi/Max, and Eleanor/Rogers.
