Sancus (Sangus, Semo Sancus) is a God of loyalty, honesty, and oaths.
Sancus was the god who protected oaths of marriage, hospitality, law, commerce, and contracts in particular. Some forms of swearings were used in his name and honor at the moment of the signing of contracts and other important civil acts. Some words (like “sanctity” and “sanction” - for the case of disrespect of pacts) have their etymology in the name of this god, whose name is connected with sancire “to hallow” (hence sanctus, “hallowed”).
Even in the ancient world, confusion surrounded this deity, as evidenced by the multiple and unstable forms of his name. In late antiquity, Martianus Capella places Sancus in region 12 of his cosmological system, which draws on Etruscan tradition in associating gods with specific parts of the sky.
You said one of Ricken’s most important character traits is loyalty. I’m not one who particularly dabbles in Rome ( then again I am a Bronze Age Greek classicist which is very far from Rome ) but I thought Sancus was fitting. Sancus as a god stands for whats right and, especially in ancient Rome, was important due to the importance of an oath. If I understand what you have told me correctly, this is an aspect of life your son there would understand. Also, from what I’m aware, Ricken specially joined to fight in order to restore his family’s name - for the Romans an incredibly important idea. Ricken, to me, seems to relate strongly to the base Roman ideals and Sancus is a name associated with such.
