I have a Proton Mail email address, how do I get my ukagaras to alert me if I've received new emails from my Proton account?
That depends on what specifically you're asking!
If you're asking about how to configure your email account in SSP so that ghosts may access it, I'd recommend checking out this response from a while back that explains how to fill in the POP information. You can access the POP information by opening the SSP Preferences (right click on a ghost, hover over "Options", and choose "Preferences...") and choosing the POP page.
If you're asking about what specific settings you need to set up on Proton's side, or what information it uses for POP, I don't know! I do not currently use Proton. The general recommendation is to google the name of your email provider + POP, and that will typically turn up the relevant information. So, in your case, I'd try searching "Proton POP", or "Proton POP settings"
If you're asking about how to make ghosts automatically alert you when there are new emails, then there are a few options in the preferences that can help with this!
First of all, you need to go into the POP settings in the SSP preferences, and choose the email address that you want to be checked automatically. (Or, create one if you haven't added one yet!)
You can either highlight one of the addresses in the box and click the button that says "Modify...", or you can double click on the address you want to modify.
That will take you to this page:
At the bottom, do you see the tick box that says "Auto check"? That box is off by default, but if you turn it on, SSP will automatically perform email checks for you at the specified interval.
You can adjust how frequently these checks are performed by changing the number in the box to the right, the one that says "Interval (Minutes):". Currently it is set to 10 minutes, but if you wanted it to check hourly, you would set it to 60, for example.
Once you have those set how you want, click OK.
Before you're completely done though, I would recommend taking a look at these settings at the top of the POP window in the SSP preferences:
The settings here are really helpful for getting your email setup just right!
If you have a lot of emails and you find that the email checks take too long, you might try turning off the "Get email headers" option. If you're only using ghosts which do not read out the email headers, then you may as well turn this off to speed email checks up!
The second option, "Notify number of new emails instead of all emails", can be used if you only want your ghosts to alert you of emails that they've already seen.
With this option disabled, the ghost will give you the count of total emails in your inbox (or at least, the ones that your email provider's POP settings allow it to see). That's useful if you want to see a running total.
With this option enabled, the ghost will only alert you to new emails. That means once it alerts you to an email, it won't alert you about it again, so it instead will act as a way to see that there's something new rather than seeing the total count.
(Or, at least, I believe that is the functionality! I'm trying to test and having a bit of trouble with Gmail not sending the correct number of emails...)
The third option, "Notify events only when new emails exist", is specifically for auto checks. With this option turned on, ghosts will not react to automatic email checks unless there is something new to show. Handy if you want them to check frequently, but don't want to see the email message all the time!
And finally, the "Notification sound for new emails" setting. This is just a sound that will play when the ghost performs an email check! (Not including silent checks that don't notify the ghost, as described with the previous option.)
If you'd like a sound to attract your attention to the fact you have a new email, then set one here.
And that's about it! Mix and match those settings as desired, and you can have a nice automatic alert whenever there's something new to see!
Well, actually, there is one more item worth mentioning. It will depend on the ghost, but some ghosts are able to display email headers! Assuming you haven't disabled them in the preferences, of course.
This depends entirely on if the ghost's developer has programmed their ghost to respond to the header data in some fashion, and the specific implementation will vary from ghost to ghost. But if you'd like to give it a try, Emily/Phase4.5 (the default ghost of SSP) is able to display email headers, and so is SSP Angel!
For any ghost developers out there who are also interested in using SSP to check emails, it's an option worth looking into!
