i think i've talked about how i named myself, but Ember was the name of Ember Evergreen from project mc squared (loved that show when i was younger) which is where i first heard the name. i tried lots of other names beginning with e, but that was the one that stuck.
as for Phoenix, i knew some time around early 2024 that i wanted to have a double word name. i workshopped a bunch that i thought could fit me, and put them into a spreadsheet where i gave each name a score out of 10 based on meaning, symbolism, sound, personal preference, and a column for other bonuses. fun fact, i almost named myself Ember Nova (like supernova) as Nova means new! there's a youtuber called Nova Black who's a houseless traveller whose content i really enjoy - she talks about life as a houseless traveller, healing from trauma, survival, and music. a lot of it's similar to me. but Ember Phoenix fits me well
the main thing is the cycle of it. Embers are what's left of a fire, and from Embers a Phoenix is born. i am the dying embers of a fire, burnt down and crumbled and hurt and abused, but i am also the phoenix that rises from it. the full name acknowledges both my trauma and my resilience. my pain and my victory
calling me Ember Phoenix is important. that's my name and what i'd like to be called. /nm at anyone who calls me Ember, but that's really only half the story! you can call me Ember Phoenix, or anything from the list of nicknames in my pinned post
