Getting paid the big bucks to be the bodyguard of a pretty lady for a week? He gets to shoot any goons that threaten you? And he gets to pretend to be your husband and flirt with you and make you squirm to make things look natural? Easiest fucking job he's ever been offered. Where's he sign?

You're so red that he thinks you might blow a blood vessel. "There's, uh, only one bed."

He doesn't fight the toothy grin that creeps onto his face. "S'only natural dat de happy couple sleeps together, darlin'," he says.

You squirm in your seat and turn even redder. It's hilarious. "I-- Yes, but--"

He slides his hand across the table, laying his fingers on your own. You jump and try to jerk away, but he tightens his grip.

"Easy," he purrs. "Keepin' ya safe means keepin' up appearances." He releases you and leans back. "I want de window side. I like havin' de sunrise come up on me in de mornin'."

Look man, you can't tell me that properly romancing a Kyuzo wouldn't take a while. And that after thirty chapters of interspecies shenanigans, it finally comes to a head and the readers r e j o i c e.

He pulls you closer, resting his hands on your waist. He presses his forehead to yours, eyes drifting closed. Your heart flutters.

You'd spent all week rehearsing the phrase. Kyuzo doesn't come naturally to anyone, and even though the droid said you had gotten it down, you were still nervous. You didn't want to accidentally call his mother a whore, after all.

「 I love you,」 you whisper in Kyuzo.

His breath hitches and his grip on you tightens. His eyes open, glowing orange in the dim light. He releases your waist and his hands come up to caress your face.

The silence is broken by a croaky voice. "...Ee..." he says, slowly. "...lava... yewtu."

It takes you a moment to realize it's coming from Embo himself. "Pardon?"

He swallows. "Ee lava yewtu," he says again, faster.

You repeat the phrase in your head. Ee lava yewtu... Ee lav you too... Ee luv you too...

I love you too.

You are not Trandoshan. You know nothing of the Scorekeeper. But in this moment, you are the very reflection of Her. Of Her power. Of Her brutality. She smiles upon you for reasons Bossk can't fathom.

But if She smiles upon you, perhaps it is a message that he should do the same.

Fake date: Echo

Echo's such a grumpy sweetheart that you just know he'd be blushing his way through it all. Especially post-Skako Minor. He'd be so cynical and insecure that when he started catching feelings, he would swallow it all, thinking you would never reciprocate.

"It's...getting too real. And I don't wanna compromise the mission or our professional relationship."

You stare up at him like he'd sprouted headtails. Jaw slack, eyes wide, blinking stupidly at him.

It hurts, but it feels like a weight is off his shoulders. He takes a deep breath. "I already informed Hunter that--"

Suddenly, he's falling. He lands on his ass with a thud, and before he realizes what's happening, you've grabbed his collar and jerked him into a kiss that nearly fries his circuits.

Slow burn: Crosshair

Melting the asshole exterior to get to the Tootsie Roll center? Yes please! We ain't even accidentally brushing fingertips when we both reach for the gun 'til chapter 45, baby. And his dramatic "don't you die on me" love confession when you're at death's door? Expect no less than six 15,000-word chapters of angsting until it's finally addressed.

The silence between you isn't the comfortable silence that it usually is. It's heavy. Laden. Expectant. Like the air before a Kaminoan thunderstorm.

You break it first, slicing through it like a lightning bolt. "So are we going to talk about it, or are we just going to forget it happened?"

He'd prayed to whatever deity would listen that you'd have been too far gone to remember what he'd said. Just one more bit of bad luck for him. "Just forget it," he says.

He stands up, but you grab his sleeve. Your expression is hard, but your eyes are soft. "Crosshair," you whisper, "I don't want to forget it."

His heart ties itself in a knot.

But seriously, this is a natural progression. Falling in love with the mark is such a classic trope. Or even "I despise you but we have to work together or we're both boned" that turns into mutual respect and then and then fuck buddies and then✨something more✨.

"I oughta belt you in the mouth," you spit.

Bane barks a hoarse laugh. "Well? What's stoppin' ya?"

You stare at him for a long, hard moment. You raise your hand, and he's able to brace for the blow that's coming. But it doesn't. You grab his collar and jerk him forwards, slamming your mouth into his.

Well. Not what he expected. But better than getting slapped.

Theory:

When Crosshair got his goose cooked by the ion engine, he likely underwent some serious medical treatment afterwards.

The Empire knew the effects of the inhibitor chip in the clones were wearing off, so they told Crosshair that his was removed during the procedures.

Thus, Crosshair has been (and still is) under the effects of the chip while believing his thoughts are his own.
