Loreena Mc Kennitt - Samain Night (1989)
When the moon on a cloud cast night Shone above the tree tops' height You sang me of some distant past That made my heart beat strong and fast Now I know I'm home at last
You offered me an eagle's wing That to the sun, I might soar and sing And if I heard the owl's cry Into the forest I would fly And in its darkness find you by
So our love's not a simple thing Nor our truths unwavering Like the moon's pull on the tide Our fingers touch, our hearts collide I'll be a moonsbreath from your side I'll be a moonsbreath from your side I'll be a moonsbreath from your side
The real horrors tonight aren’t witches or ghosts. It’s ignorance and hate, and they’re everywhere. Like on Samhain, the walls between a hate-tinted reality and our world are getting thinner and thinner. So, tonight, just tonight if that’s all you can do, don’t hate. Listen. Feel. Empathize. Stop what you’re doing for a second and listen to what other people have to say. Even if you don’t agree, understand. Present your points of view calmly, and understand if they’re not accepted. Never forget that we’re all human. We’re all fallible, and we all deserve respect. Respect is not something we owe only the ones we agree with. The darkness that will descend on us all if we don’t respect and tolerate all points of view will last longer than a winter. The real change isn’t in hate. It is, and has always been in respect. That’s where Spring is.
