When governments stretch the law, public trust erodes.
This case is a reminder of how fragile our democracy is.
When millions of people lose the right to work, travel, and socialize, governments must act with humility and restraint. Invoking the Emergencies Act when police indicated the situation was under control crossed a dangerous line.
Freedom and liberty endure only when we are willing to defend rights, even those we may not agree with.

The Emergencies Act is the modern equivalent of the War Measures Act. It is top level. The PM declared this and then soon after Russia attacked Ukraine. I think they had a bit more warrant for an Emergencies Act. This was overblown. Besides, he ran away to his summer place to hide and pretended he was sick with Covid again, or something.
OTTAWA - The highly-anticipated Emergencies Act Inquiry report by Commissioner Paul Rouleau finds that the Trudeau Government's invocation of the act did indeed meet the legislation's high "asshole threshold".
