Sylus starts to feel sick at a buisness meeting so he calls you to come pick him up.
TW: emetophobia warning!!! Graphic!!
I wrote this in one sitting, barely revised.
Imagine.. Sylus at a buisness meeting but he starts to feel queasy. He ignores it at first, not breaking his character as the feared crime lord but after around an hour he starts to sweat, skin feeling clammy and a little cold which is very unusual for him.
His neatly tailored suit feeling too tight so he nonchalantly adjusts his tie to unloosen it a bit as if that will help.
He checks his phone, sees a text from you about coming over later and he decides to tell you that he might not be able to hang out tonight.
His wording was off and you pick up on it immediately that something might be wrong. You know he would have told you if it was a serious issue so you pretend to except his change of plans and decide to just meet him at his place to see if he's okay.
The meeting finally ends and by this time the leader of Onychinus is near trembling with nausea. He slips into a single stall bathroom to splash water on his face but once he looks in the mirror he knows beyond a doubt that something isn't right. His face was damp with a thin sheen of sweat, dark circles under his eyes as if his body was working overtime.
A churning sensation in his gut makes a gag threaten his throat but he swallows against it, he needed to get his shit together and get home where he could ride this out in privacy. He decides to sip water from the tap as a desperate attempt to dampen the urge to cough and retch but the moment it goes down his insides swire with regret.
A near silent heave wracks him, making him brace on the mirror with one hand as a gush of liquid flows out of him with force. He realizes he probably won't be able to drive himself home like this and he had traveled alone since this particular meeting didn't require him to have any subordinates with him. He could ask Luke and Kieran but he knew that would likely make fun of him, and honestly he doesn't blame them, their mischif is a highlight of his life with them. He decides to order them to take his motorcycle home and he calls you after a few minutes of stuggling to regain his composure.
His voice was rough when you answered, you were immediately worried. "Sylus... my love are you okay.?"
"I need you to meet me at the hotel.. the same one we met at two weeks ago. I need a ride home... you can use one of the cars at Onychinus." he didn't have the energy to come up with an excuse and honestly as horrible as he felt right now, he didnt want to.
"Okay, I can be there in a half hour. Are you okay..? You avoided the question..." you didn't think he was injured, he just sounded.. tired? Maybe drunk? You had never heard him like this before.
"I'm just not feeling well.. I want you with me." He mumbles as he sits down on the floor leaned back on the door to wait for you.
"Okay love.. I'll be there as quick as possible." You hang up and immediately rush to his mansion, you were already waiting nearby for him to get home so it didn't take long at all for you to be on your way to the hotel in one of Sylus’s vintage cars.
It didn't seem like long for you but for the dragon waiting it felt like an eternity.
Sylus had his phone in one hand, one knee up with his forhead resting on it as he focuses on breathing slowly. His stomach in knots and he can feel a fever coming on, trembling slightly and starting to get dizzy. He doesn't normally get sick, but that doesn't mean its impossible. Even fiends can catch the flu. He just hopes he can keep you from getting it as well, even though the thought of being in bed with you recovering from a mundane virus sounds like a poor use of a vacation but a vacation nonetheless.
Sylus feels his phone vibrate in his hand and sees a text from you saying you're here. The room spins a bit when he stands and he swallows back a soft gag. "Fuck.." he whispers, quickly moving back to the sink as a second round of sickness pulls him under. His phone buzzes with a call this time, he can't answer right this so he manages to send a quick text to tell you to wait a second.
A few minutes later he splashes water on his face and blows his nose, he was feeling even worse now. He didn't even have the energy to feel nervous about you seeing him like this, he knows he's safe with you and that you'll take care of him without judgement.
When he opens the door to leave the bathroom he notices that his whole body feels heavy, he spots you in the lobby staring at your phone. You look up and the worry in your brows immediately tightens.
"Come on, love lets get you home..." you speak softly to him, taking his hand and leading him out to the parking lot where the vehicle waits. "You're burning up... is it the aether core.?" You ask, looking up at him when you reach the vehicle. You cup his face and gently peer into his eyes.
"No.. I'm just sick, Kitten..." sylus whispers, his eyes glossy and feverish. He looked so uncomfortable.
You take your phone out and request the next couple days off. "I'm staying with you until you feel better." It wasn't a request, you were not leaving his side until he was okay again.
Sylus manages a smile and shrugs. "I won't argue with a pretty lady who wants to spoil me..." he mumbles as he reluctantly gets in the car, knowing the ride would likely be unpleasant.
You drive carefully, resting a hand on his arm and gently rubbing your thumb on the heated skin. You can feel him shaking slightly. "Why didnt you tell me sooner... I don't like the idea of you being alone with a fever.."
Sylus doesn't answer, he just laces his fingers with yours and squeezes gently as if he was lost in thought or just feeling too horrible to speak.
His throat clicks with a forced swallow and you glance over at him, his face was buried in his arm against the window that he had just rolled down a bit.
"Sy..?" You whisper.
He shakes his head, managing to mutter. "Just drive please..." he sounded so weak and vulnerable that it made your chest ache.
"Okay.." you focus on driving, unable to ignore the way his breathing shakes a bit and he was swallowing every few seconds.
"we're almost home.." you speak softly as you turn onto the road to Onychinus's base, only a couple more minutes now. It's become clear to you now that your poor dragon had been throwing up and thats why he asked you to pick him up. A soft smile graces your face knowing that you were what he wanted when he was sick.
The vehicle pulls into the garage and the doors slide down you turn the engine off, deciding to get out of the car quickly to open the car door for him not wanting him to have to move anymore than nessisary.
You take his hand and pull him up gently, he leans on you a bit and groans softly. Your brows furrow. "Shh... its okay.. we're home now.." you whisper.
Sylus's stomach lurches before even making it all the way inside the mansion, barely making it to a trash bin in the garage before a torrent of fluid spews out of him. He coughs hard and gags, his breathing ragged as he braces himself against a steel table against the wall. "Mmh..." a soft whine leaves him and your heart twists.
"Its okay... ive got you love.." you whisper softly, rubbing his back gently as he braces for the next wave. "Breathe slow... its just us here.." your soft words and voice help him relax a bit, a shiver runs through him and the nausea creasts again.
A rough, wet sound tears from him that makes goosebumps prickle on your skin, his free hand grips your arm as back to back gags and heaves bring up everything he's been fighting to hold down since he got into the car.
You step over to the desk and grab a few tissues and come back just as a dry heave wracks him. Your gaze softens and you gently wipe the spit off of his face and your thumb brushes a tear that escaped from the effort of being violently sick.
He sniffles, coughing a couple times and spitting into the trash can before he wraps his arms around you and buries his burning face into the crook of your neck. "Thanks love.." he mumbles, slumping against you a bit and you have to force yourself to hold his weight.
"Come on... lets get you to bed... I'll stay right by your side until this passes.." you whisper, kissing his cheek gently not caring if he will pass you a virus.
Your love for him overshadows everything else, all that mattered to you right now was nursing your dragon back to health.

One (thankfully uneventful) pee break later, Seonghwa was able to get Hongjoong tucked back into bed, with strict orders not to try and get up by himself again unless he wanted to be the one to explain to the rest of the members why their eldest hyung had died of a heart attack at age twenty seven. After a quick trip back to his bedroom to grab his laptop, and another to the kitchen for a protein bar, Seonghwa posted himself up at Hongjoong’s desk, close enough to jump into action if he was needed, but still with enough space between them that Hongjoong could rest easily without risk of being disturbed; despite only having been awake for an hour, the leader had already had an extremely rough go of it, and Seonghwa was really hoping he’d be able to get a bit of sleep before the next round of vomiting began.
That hope was quickly dashed, however, when not even twenty minutes after he’d laid back down did Hongjoong suddenly bolt upright, urgently asking through the shaky hand he’d pressed over his mouth for Seonghwa to please pass him the bin.
Thus, the cycle began anew. For the next three hours, Hongjoong struggled horribly, leaning over the side of his bed to be sick every thirty minutes like clockwork while Seonghwa rubbed his back and whispered soft words of encouragement in his ear. It was early evening by the time he finally managed to fall asleep, the relentless nausea he’d been experiencing eventually easing up enough for him to close his eyes without feeling like he was on a tilt-a-whirl. Seonghwa stayed by his side for a while longer, wanting to be nearby in case he woke up feeling sick again, but after an hour had passed without any further incidents, he decided to leave Hongjoong to rest for a bit so he could have a shower of his own, as well as a proper meal.
Instead of putting on some music to listen to like he normally would, Seonghwa bathed in silence, hoping that the few minutes of quiet before he had to return to his mat-hyung duties would help to clear his mind and calm his nerves a little bit. Although, logically, he knew not to be too worried about the whole situation- any sort of stomach ailment always seemed to hit Hongjoong much harder than it did the rest of the members- it was still difficult for him to watch his best friend suffer so much without being able to do anything to stop it.
Thankfully, the shower was successful in giving him the mental reset he needed, and after a pit stop in the kitchen for a late lunch, Seonghwa was feeling significantly better than he had been a half hour before. He had just gotten done clearing the table and was about to start washing his dishes when his phone buzzed with an incoming text from Yunho.
7:33pm Golden Retriever 🐶: can you come here when you have a sec? not urgent
Seonghwa replied immediately:
7:33pm Mama Hwa 👵🏻: Be right there!
Not wanting to make his dongsaengs wait, despite Yunho’s insistence that it wasn’t a time-sensitive matter, Seonghwa quickly loaded his dishes into the dishwasher and made his way across the dorm to their bedroom. When he opened the door, he was surprised to find that instead of being in Mingi’s bed where he’d left them, the pair were now cuddled up together in Yunho’s, with Mingi’s sheets having been entirely stripped off and left in a pile on the floor.
Before Seonghwa had a chance to ask what was going on, Yunho spoke up: “Mingi knocked his tea over and the sheets got soaked,” he explained, gesturing towards the crumpled heap of bedding in the middle of the room. “I took them off so I could put them in the wash, but then I started getting kinda dizzy again so I had to lay back down before I could finish. I’m sorry, hyung.”
“Oh,” Seonghwa said, feeling rather relieved; given how sick Mingi had been that morning, he was afraid he might have a much worse kind of mess to deal with than just some spilled tea. “Oh, that’s not a problem at all, you’re totally good. I have some laundry to do anyway, so I’ll just toss them in with the rest of it.”
Seonghwa picked up the sheets and threw them into the hallway to be dealt with later before making his way back over to Yunho’s bed and sitting down at his side. “How are you feeling now?” he asked. “Still dizzy?”
“No, I’m okay, hyung,” Yunho replied, offering Seonghwa a reassuring smile. “I feel a lot better now that I’m lying down again.”
“Good, I’m glad to hear that.” Seonghwa gave Yunho a fond pat on the shoulder before turning his attention to Mingi, who was slumped up against the dancer’s side, looking like he was barely following the conversation the two of them were having.
“How about you, love?” he asked softly, reaching forward to tuck a strand of hair behind Mingi’s ear. “How’s that belly feeling?”
In lieu of a verbal response, Mingi pulled a hand out from under the covers and patted his stomach with an exaggerated frown, then puffed his cheeks and gave his head a slight shake.
“It still hurts a lot, but he doesn’t feel like he’s gonna throw up anymore,” Yunho explained, noting the confusion on Seonghwa’s face. While the strain of repeated vomiting had caused Mingi to entirely lose his voice a few hours prior, almost a decade of friendship had made Yunho fluent in Mingi handspeak, and as such, he had dubbed himself the younger’s unofficial mouthpiece until further notice.
“I will literally never understand how you guys do that,” Seonghwa said with an incredulous chuckle. “But alright, that’s progress, I suppose. Hopefully by tonight the pain will have eased up a bit too. I’m sorry you’re still feeling so gross, Mingi-yah.”
Mingi gave a quiet hum of acknowledgement and closed his eyes, nestling his head back into where he’d been resting it in the crook of Yunho’s arm. Yunho leaned forward and tugged the covers up over Mingi’s shoulders, pausing for a moment to make sure he was settled again before looking back up at Seonghwa. “How’s Hongjoong hyung?” he asked, lowering his voice a bit as he spoke. “Is he doing okay?”
“He finally fell asleep a little while ago, but honestly it’s been pretty rough. You know how he gets.” Seonghwa purposefully kept his answer vague, not wanting to worry his dongsaengs with the details of what the last few hours had truly entailed, but Yunho’s face twisted in sympathy nonetheless.
“Aigoo, poor hyung,” he frowned. “Tell him I’m sorry for getting him sick, I feel awful.”
“It’s not your fault, Yuyu. Or yours, Mingi,” Seonghwa added preemptively; Mingi had been horrified when he’d woken up from his nap earlier to find that Hongjoong had also gotten sick, especially since he was the one the leader had been with last, and Seonghwa didn’t want him to feel like he was to blame for the way that things had unfolded. “He’ll be alright in a few days, and I’ll take good care of him in the meantime, so you guys have nothing to worry about, alright?”
Mingi’s eyes remained closed, but he poked his hand back out from under the covers and pointed at Seonghwa, then at the door, then at Yunho, then finally back at himself, before shifting his fingers into what appeared to be a rather clumsy attempt at a heart.
“I think that one means you’re the best hyung ever and we’d probably all be dead in a ditch somewhere without you,” Yunho interpreted, turning to Seonghwa with a smirk. “Or something like that- loose translation, ya know?”
Seonghwa smiled, feeling some of the residual tension he’d been holding in his shoulders melt away at Yunho’s words of appreciation; although it certainly wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to have to be responsible for multiple sick dongsaengs simultaneously, and obviously he’d much rather them not be unwell in the first place, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t take some pride in getting to be the one they all relied on for help.
“Thank you, C-3P-Yu,” he joked, reaching up to ruffle Yunho’s hair. “But speaking of dead in a ditch, I really need to get back to Joongie before he kills himself trying to get out of bed again. I’ve got the sheets already, but do either of you need anything else before I go?”
Mingi, with his hand still up at his chest, stuck his pinky finger out and mimicked sipping from a cup.
Yunho opened his mouth to translate, but Seonghwa held a hand up before he could speak. “That one, I got. More tea coming right up.”
***
After Seonghwa had given Mingi his tea (this time in a thermos with a lid so there would be no further spills), he returned to Hongjoong’s room. He opened the door quietly, not wanting to disturb the leader’s sleep, but much to his surprise, Hongjoong was already awake, sitting up against the headboard with his arms wrapped around his stomach and a faraway look in his eyes.
“Hey,” Seonghwa said softly, making his way over to the side of the bed and placing a hand on Hongjoong’s shoulder. “You okay?”
Hongjoong looked up at him groggily, his eyelids still heavy with sleep. “Hm?”
“I asked if you’re okay,” Seonghwa repeated. “Did you just wake up?”
“Mm, yeah, few minutes ago,” Hongjoong mumbled, lifting a hand to cover his mouth as he let out a drowsy yawn. “Where’d you go?”
“Just to take a shower and have some lunch, but then Yuyu needed me for something, so it took a little longer than I was expecting. I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you woke up.”
“It’s okay, I was just wondering,” Hongjoong said with a slight shake of his head. “Is Yunho alright?”
“Yeah, he’s fine, Mingi just spilled his tea and they needed some help cleaning up, but they’re all good now,” Seonghwa replied, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “How are you though? You feeling any better?”
Hongjoong gave a half-hearted shrug. “Dunno. A little less nauseous, I guess, but not much.”
“Dizzy?”
“Not right now, no.”
Seonghwa reached out and pressed a hand to Hongjoong’s forehead. “Still no fever, so that’s good. Mingi’s still alright on that front too, so it might pass you both by, if we’re lucky.”
“Yeah, hopefully,” Hongjoong agreed. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something else, but then furrowed his brow and closed it again, his gaze falling back down to his lap.
“Something on your mind?” Seonghwa prompted gently.
“Oh, um, I was just gonna ask..." Hongjoong paused, fidgeting awkwardly with the ring on his finger. "Can you... I mean, like, if it isn’t too much trouble..."
Seonghwa frowned. “What is it, Joong?” he asked, leaning forward and putting a hand on Hongjoong’s knee over the covers. “It’s okay, you can tell me.”
Hongjoong hesitated for a few seconds before responding. “I was just wondering if maybe you’d be able to lay down with me,” he finally admitted. “Just for a little bit. If you’re not busy.”
“Aish, is that all?” Seonghwa said with a chuckle. “I thought you were going to pull a Wooyoung and send me on a wild goose chase to find some rare discontinued ice cream flavor or something. Of course I’ll lay down with you, Joongie.”
Seonghwa kicked off his slippers and shifted himself the rest of the way onto the bed, immediately wrapping an arm around Hongjoong’s shoulder and pulling him into his side; while the leader may have been shy about asking for comfort, Seonghwa had no such issues when it came to giving it.
“Do you want to try and sleep again?” he asked, tracing his thumb lightly up and down Hongjoong’s arm as he spoke. “You weren’t out for very long before.”
“Ugh, I don’t know,” Hongjoong replied. “I’m exhausted, but my stomach still feels really weird, so I’m not sure if I’m actually gonna be able to fall back asleep.”
“Hm… how about a movie?” Seonghwa suggested after a moment of thought. “I think a new Marvel one just came out.”
“But… my laptop’s all the way across the room…”
The words “and I don’t want you to leave again to get it” were left unspoken, but Seonghwa understood anyway. “I have my phone, if you don’t mind watching on the small screen?” he offered.
“Yeah, that works,” Hongjoong said with a yawn, turning to the side and tilting his head so that his cheek was resting against Seonghwa’s chest. “Thanks.”
“Of course, Joong,” Seonghwa smiled. He lifted his free hand up to cradle the back of Hongjoong's head and began to rake his fingers through his hair in a slow, rhythmic motion. “Just relax, okay? I’ve got you.”
Hongjoong let out a small sigh of contentment, briefly letting his eyes close again as he relished in the first moment of relative peace he’d had since he’d first woken up sick that afternoon. Despite his earlier insistence that he could handle things on his own, he really wasn’t feeling well, and he was extremely grateful now that Seonghwa had called his bluff and stayed to look after him instead. Although the reputation he’d garnered would suggest otherwise, underneath his rough, prickly exterior, all Hongjoong really wanted when he was sick was to have his best friend by his side. He loved the rest of his members, he really did, but he was hardwired to be in hyung mode whenever they were around, and that made letting his guard down enough for them to actually take care of him an almost impossible feat. In a moment like this, when he was feeling so miserably exhausted and unwell, being with the one person in the world for whom he didn’t have to be the strong, infallible Captain meant absolutely everything.
A few minutes passed, the room silent except for the low chattering of the characters onscreen, before Seonghwa spoke again. “For what it’s worth…” he whispered, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to Hongjoong’s temple. “I would've gone to every single store in this city to find your favorite snack for you, if you had asked.”

NOTE: Behold, the Woosan sickfic that almost killed me because I locked in too hard and wrote this all in one sitting despite having a chronic illness that very much does not like it when I do anything in more than half hour intervals.
Also, if this seems at all familiar, it had the premise yoinked from a fic I wrote like 5 years ago for an entirely different fandom. I highly doubt anyone who read that is gonna be reading this, unless there’s some secret RuPaul’s Drag Race x ATEEZ faction that I don’t know about, but wanted to give a heads up just in case.
A strange sound woke San from his sleep. He groaned, rolling over to look at the clock next to his bed. 11:07pm- he had only been asleep for two hours. San wasn't normally one to go to bed early, but they had back to back schedules the next day and he wanted to make sure he was well rested. He listened for a moment to see if he could hear the noise again, but the room was silent, save for the dull hum of the aircon. Shrugging, he rolled back over, pulling the covers up to his chin as he tried to fall back asleep. The sound came again a few minutes later, just as he was drifting off. It took a moment for him to realize what he was hearing was the faint but unmistakable sound of someone vomiting in the room next to his- Wooyoung’s. Still half asleep, San sat up, fumbling to find his phone on the bedside table before shooting his friend a text.
ATEEZ CS ❤️: are you okay?
Stupid question, he thought to himself, chewing at his thumb nail. Wooyoung was throwing up, of course he wasn’t okay. A few minutes went by with no response. He texted again.
ATEEZ CS ❤️: do you want me to come over?
If they were at the dorms, San wouldn’t have thought twice about going to check on a sick member, but they were staying in a hotel and he didn’t know how well the managers would respond to him leaving his room in the middle of the night when they were supposed to be sleeping. Wooyoung didn't text back, but a series of painful sounding coughs and gags coming from the other side of the shared wall was all the response San needed. Fuck it, he thought to himself. If the managers had a problem with it, he’d deal with it in the morning. He couldn’t leave his best friend to suffer by himself when he was so obviously unwell.
San grabbed his hotel keycard from the nightstand, slipping it into the pocket of his sweatpants along with his phone. After a moment of thought, he circled to the other side of the bed, picking up Shiber from where he lay on the other pillow and tucking him under his arm as he made his way out of the room, being careful to close the door quietly behind him. The hallway was brightly lit and it took him a second to adjust to the sudden shift in lighting, rubbing roughly at his tired eyes before reaching up to knock on the door next to his.
“Young-ah? It's San, open up."
A few moments passed and he was just getting ready to knock again when the door creaked open, revealing a very pale and very unsteady looking Wooyoung standing in the doorway.
"Sannie I-" was all he managed to get out before he was cut off by a gag. He clapped a hand over his mouth and spun around, stumbling over his feet a little as he made a beeline back to the bathroom. From his position in the doorway, San could hear more than he could see as Wooyoung crashed rather violently onto the tiled floor, just in time to be sick again. San caught the door before it closed and followed the younger man into his hotel room, nose crinkling slightly at the acrid smell that hung in the air. The room was a mess, sweaty sheets tangled up on the bed and a towel on the floor next to it half covering what was clearly a failed attempt to make it to the bathroom on time. San frowned at the sight- how long had Wooyoung been sick? They’d only checked into their rooms a few hours ago after dinner at the hotel restaurant. He tried to think back to the meal they’d shared- had Wooyoung seemed off then? No, he was his usual bright and bubbly self, cracking jokes with Mingi and playfully shooting straw wrappers at an (only slightly) irritated Seonghwa. What could’ve happened since then?
A loud cough interrupted his thoughts and San quickly pulled himself back to the present, safely depositing Shiber on the desk along with his room key before rounding the corner to the small en-suite bathroom. Despite its intensity, the vomiting spell seemed to have been short-lived, already tapering off by the time San made his way over to where Wooyoung was kneeling, arm draped over the toilet seat and head hanging low as he panted heavily, trying to catch his breath.
"Aigoo," San cooed, crouching down next to his friend, reaching a hand out to brush his sweaty bangs off his forehead. He winced at the heat he was met with- the younger was definitely running a fever. "What happened?"
"I don't know," Wooyoung whimpered, shakily straightening up and wrapping a protective arm around his aching stomach. "I don't feel good."
“I can see that. How long have you been feeling sick?” San reached out to flush the toilet, averting his eyes as the murky water swirled away. He did not need a visual to go along with the sounds he’d been hearing for the last several minutes.
"l've been feeling kinda off since after dinner, but I just chalked it up to the adrenaline from today finally wearing off, you know?" Wooyoung started. San nodded, rubbing a comforting hand on his best friend’s shoulder as he stopped to cough harshly into his elbow. Wooyoung paused for a moment, swallowing thickly, before continuing.
"I tried to go to bed early so I could sleep it off, but I couldn’t fall asleep and my stomach started to hurt- and I mean really hurt, not like ‘I ate too many shrimp crackers and I feel kinda bloated hurt’ but like OW, you know? And it kept getting worse and worse, and then I started to feel really nauseous and hot and I was like ‘oh my god I’m gonna puke’, so I ran to the bathroom and I threw up, and then once it started it just wouldn’t stop,” Wooyoung rambled, pausing every few words to sniffle and wipe at his nose with the back of his hand in a futile attempt to stop it from dripping. San ripped off a piece of toilet paper from the roll, handing it to him and gesturing for the younger to blow his nose. Wooyoung did as told, giving his nose a forceful blow before suddenly freezing, hands still tented over his face. San looked at him worriedly, ready to jump into action if he needed to be sick again, but after a moment Wooyoung just leaned forward, stifling two small sneezes into his cupped hands.
“Bless,” San said with a sympathetic smile, patting his friend’s knee.
“Ugh, sorry. Got in my nose,” Wooyoung cringed, wiping his hands and giving his nose a final blow before balling up the used toilet paper and throwing it into the toilet.
“So like I was saying,” he continued, “I keep getting sick, and then I’ll feel better for a little bit afterwards, but then it just gets bad again. I don't know what's wrong with me, Sannie. My stomach hurts so bad..." Wooyoung trailed off, sounding like he was on the verge of tears.
"My poor Wooyoungie,” San murmured, fully sitting down now. It seemed like they were in for a long night, and he figured he’d better make himself comfortable. “With how fast this came on and how many times you’ve been sick, it sounds like you might have food poisoning. Do you think you could've eaten something bad?"
"Ugh, maybe. I had tilapia at dinner, do you think that was it?"
San made a face. He never trusted seafood at hotels when they were traveling abroad, and it seemed for a good reason. Just as he was about to make this sentiment known, he saw Wooyoung straighten up abruptly, his face paling. Knowing what was about to happen, San carefully helped guide him forward, managing to position him over the toilet in time for more chunky liquid to spill from his lips into the water below. San looked away once more, focusing his attention instead on pulling Wooyoung’s hair back, gathering as much of his two toned locks as he could into a small ponytail and affixing it with a hair tie he’d pulled off his own wrist. Wooyoung’s hair wasn’t really long enough to be a problem, but San figured it was better to be safe than sorry. Cleaning vomit out of his best friend’s hair in the middle of the night was not his idea of a good bonding activity. He’d do it, of course, but ew, he would really prefer not to.
Content that the younger man’s hair was now safely out of the line of fire, San began to trace lazy shapes on Wooyoung’s back in an attempt to soothe him, whispering words of encouragement softly until he was done. After a final, particularly painful sounding cough, Wooyoung spat disgustedly into the bowl before flopping back against the wall with a groan.
“This fucking sucks,” he whined.
"I know baby, I’m so sorry,” San sympathized, leaning forward to tuck a strand of hair that hadn’t made it into the ponytail behind Wooyoung’s ear. “How are you feeling now? Any better now that you’ve got that out of you?"
“A little better, I think. Not as nauseous anymore. Still hurts, though."
"Do you want to try and drink some water?"
Wooyoung nodded his head tentatively. His stomach was still cramping badly and he wasn't completely sure he was done being sick, but with how much he’d thrown up already he knew he would likely get dehydrated if he didn’t try and get some fluids back in his system.
San made his way out of the bathroom, returning moments later with a plastic water bottle from the room’s mini bar.
"Small sips, okay?"
Wooyoung took a few sips of the water, grateful to be able to rid his mouth of the awful taste, but quickly regretted it as not even a minute later he felt the nausea begin to creep up again. With a low moan, he leaned back over the toilet in preparation for the inevitable. San continued his previous ministrations, rubbing circles on his friend’s back silently as he breathed nauseously over the water for a few minutes. Wooyoung let out a few airy burps and spat out the saliva that had begun to pool in his mouth, but nothing else came up, and for a moment he thought it might’ve been a false alarm. He was just about to say as much when a sudden gag tore up his throat, forcing him to jerk his head forward so he didn’t make a mess as he forcefully coughed up the water he had just drank, followed immediately by yet another wave of his stomach contents.
"Aigoo, I’m sorry,” San apologized. He reached a hand around to hold Wooyoung’s forehead as he continued to retch and gag loudly into the bowl, worried the younger man would nosedive into the seat with how violently he was being sick. “That was a bad idea, Youngie, I’m really sorry,” San apologized again, feeling terrible for having prompted Wooyoung to drink before he was ready. “I think your belly’s still too upset to handle having anything in it.”
“It hurts, Sannie," Wooyoung panted between coughs, his knuckles white as he gripped the edge of the toilet seat, desperate for something to stabilize himself as his body purged itself painfully.
"I know, baby, I know. Just let it out, l've got you." San held him steady as he continued to be sick. He was surprised at how much Wooyoung was still bringing up, despite having already been sick several times in the past couple hours. Whatever the younger had eaten really must not have agreed with him, San thought to himself. He briefly wondered how the others were doing- no one else had ordered the same thing that Wooyoung had, but hadn’t Jongho snuck a few bites off his plate? He made a mental note to send a quick text to the maknae after he’d gotten Wooyoung settled down. Their youngest member had an unusually strong stomach, and he hadn’t eaten very much, so hopefully he’d be alright, but San definitely didn’t like the idea of him being alone if he happened to be even a fraction as sick as Wooyoung was right now.
When the vomiting finally tapered off, Wooyoung gave a shaky exhale and promptly collapsed back onto San, who had positioned himself behind his sick friend to better support him through the miserable ordeal. San could feel the heat radiating off the younger man’s body as he wrapped a protective arm around him, easing him to the side so they could lean more comfortably against the bathtub behind them. It pained San to see his best friend so sick. He desperately wished he could do more to ease Wooyoung’s suffering, but he knew that the sickness just had to run its course. For now, San would just do what he could to make him feel comfortable and safe until it passed.
They sat like that for some time, the small bathroom quiet except for the sound of Wooyoung’s breathing and the light whirring of the ceiling fan San had turned on on his way in to try and clear out some of the smell. San had taken one of Wooyoung’s clammy hands in his own and was rubbing small circles on the back of it with his thumb. The repetitive motion was soothing not only to his sick friend, but also to San’s own nerves, which were feeling rather fried after how suddenly and unexpectedly his night had turned from ‘try and get some sleep before you have to get up for work tomorrow’ to ‘try and make sure your best friend doesn’t die on the floor of a hotel bathroom in a puddle of his own bodily fluids.’
"Do you wanna try to go back to bed or do you think you're gonna be sick more?" San asked after a while, noticing that Wooyoung seemed to be falling asleep on him.
“I can’t go back to the bed, the floor, I-“ the rest of the sentence was muffled into the fabric of San’s shirt, where Wooyoung’s face was now buried, having migrated off his friend’s shoulder and onto his chest.
“What was that, baby?” San asked, reaching his hand up to lightly scratch the back of the younger man’s neck as he waited for him to repeat himself.
“I didn’t make it in time, Sannie, I made a mess,” Wooyoung finally admitted, sheepishly. San cringed a bit internally, thinking back to the towel on the floor, but didn’t let it show on his face. Wooyoung obviously already felt bad enough about it as is and he didn’t want to make him feel worse.
“Don’t worry about it baby, I’ll clean everything up and then we’ll get you settled in bed so you can get some sleep, okay?”
Wooyoung nodded, lifting his head from San’s chest, but not meeting his eyes. Now that he wasn’t actively getting sick anymore he’d been able to get his bearings a bit, and he was clearly feeling more than a little embarrassed about the whole situation. At the confirmation, San stood up from his place next to Wooyoung on the floor, his legs feeling a bit numb from the extended time sitting awkwardly on the hard tile.
“Okay, I’m gonna go see if I can get some stuff from the front desk. Just close your eyes and rest your head here, I’ll be back before you know it,” he reassured, grabbing a clean towel from the rack and placing it on the edge of the tub as a makeshift pillow. “I have my phone so you can call me if you need me, but I’ll try and be quick. Just hang tight, okay?”
Wooyoung sleepily hummed his acknowledgement. He already seemed to be drifting off again, half slumped against the tub with his knees tucked up to his chin. It looked terribly uncomfortable, but San figured he must be too exhausted to care.

Thirty minutes later, San had successfully gotten the floor cleaned up and had replaced the sweaty linens on the bed with clean ones. He’d even tucked Shiber into the freshly made sheets, hoping that getting to snuggle with San’s beloved plushie would lift the sick member’s spirits a bit. The front desk staff had been sympathetic and had given San some Gatorade and crackers on the house too, which he’d put on the nightstand for later when Wooyoung might be able to stomach them. The floor had been easy to clean- it had really only been a tiny puddle of vomit, as Wooyoung had thankfully been able to make it the few additional feet to the bathroom before the worst of his sickness began, but San knew he’d feel better not having to see or smell it when his stomach was still so unsettled. He’d tossed the soiled towel into the garbage can and tied the bag up, setting it to the side to be dealt with later.
San knocked softly on the bathroom door before opening it, finding Wooyoung exactly how he’d left him. He knelt down next to his friend and gently shook him awake.
“Young-ah.”
“Mmfph.”
San pouted fondly at the sleepy noise the younger made, clearly not happy at being woken up from what was the first sleep he’d been able to get all night. Cute, he thought. Sad, but cute.
“The bed’s all ready for you. Are you ready to move or do you need a minute?”
Wooyoung blinked sleepily up at him, trying to assess how he was feeling before responding.
"Y-yeah, I think I'm okay,” he said hesitantly after a moment. He was still queasy but he didn’t feel like he was going to be sick again just yet. “For now, at least."
“Alright, good, that’s good. Let’s get you to bed, baby. Scoot forward a bit and I'll help you up."
Wooyoung normally would have protested, insisting he was fine to walk on his own, but in his current state, he was grateful for the offer. He moved forward, away from his resting spot against the tub, allowing room for San to get behind him and pick him up under the arms. His head swam with dizziness as he stood up and he stumbled forward a bit, but San tightened his grip, steadying him before he could fall. Wooyoung leaned heavily back onto his friend, allowing him to carry most of his weight as they slowly made their way to the bed.
Wooyoung fell back asleep almost immediately upon laying down, clearly exhausted from having been violently ill, but not before letting out a tiny, painfully adorable squeal at the sight of Shiber waiting patiently for him on the bed. San, on the other hand, couldn’t sleep. He lay next to Wooyoung, stroking the sick man’s hair gently with one hand and fiddling with the ring on his finger with the other. For the first time that night since he’d abruptly awoken to the sound of his best friend being sick and the whirlwind that had ensued in the hours that followed, he had a moment of peace and quiet. A moment to think. He knew he should be in his own room, resting up for what was undoubtedly going to be a chaotic day of schedules, but he couldn't bring himself to leave Wooyoung like this. San knew firsthand how awful it felt to be alone when you were sick, and he never wanted anyone to have to feel that way. Especially not Wooyoung. He didn’t know exactly when his feelings had changed from platonic love and professional admiration to something more, but in that one silent moment on the bathroom floor, with his best friend half asleep in his arms, looking so perfectly beautiful despite the fever flushing his cheeks and the smell of sickness still lingering in the air, San knew there was no going back. He loved Wooyoung, and he knew there was nothing more important in this moment than being there for him and making sure he was safe.
San was pulled out of his thoughts by the sound of a strangled gag coming from beside him. He shot out of bed immediately and ran to the bathroom to grab the trash can, mentally cursing himself for not thinking to bring it earlier. He managed to thrust it under Wooyoung’s chin just in time for him to choke up a mouthful of bile, grabbing the younger by his shoulder with his other hand to stabilize him when he pitched forward again with a guttural retch. This time the gags quickly turned unproductive, his stomach already mostly void after several rounds of sickness, and Wooyoung was soon left dry heaving painfully.
"Shh, it's okay, I think you're empty," San reassured him, using his free hand to ease Wooyoung back onto the headboard. The younger let himself be moved without a word, his eyes screwed shut and his hands gripping the edge of the comforter as he swallowed convulsively, trying to get his stomach back under control. “Try and take some deep breaths, Young-ah. I'll be right back."
San went to clean the trash can and when he came back he found Wooyoung still sitting up, arms wrapped tightly around his midsection and tears streaming down his flushed cheeks as his chest hitched with silent sobs.
"Woo? What’s wrong, baby, why are you crying?" San asked, hurriedly placing the bin back next to the bed and rushing over to his friend, hands flitting around like he didn’t know what to do with them as he tried to figure out what had happened in the few minutes he’d been gone.
"I’m sorry Sannie, this is so humiliating. You should be in your own room sleeping but instead you're stuck here taking care of me.” Wooyoung stopped to sniffle wetly, before continuing, “I'm a fully grown man and I can't even take care of myself. Can’t even make it to the bathroom without making a mess. I am disgusting. I’m disgusting and I’m weak and I’m-"
San cut him off, "Hey hey hey, listen to me. It's not your fault you're sick, okay? It happens to everyone. It doesn't make you weak and it certainly doesn't make you disgusting." He paused for a moment to sit on the edge of the bed, leaning forward to wipe an errant tear from Wooyoung’s cheek with his thumb before continuing, "Woo, you could never be gross to me, okay? I promise.”
Either soothed by his friend’s reassuring words or simply too exhausted to keep crying, Wooyoung sighed heavily, letting his head fall forward onto San’s shoulder. He wanted to tell him how much it meant to him that he stayed. He wanted to tell him that he never wanted him to leave. He wanted to tell him that he loved him, but all he managed to say was, “Thank you.”

The night was long. Wooyoung was able to get a little bit of sleep between episodes, but San wasn't so lucky. It seemed as soon as he was able to get everything cleaned up and settle back down, Wooyoung was awake again. It was around 4am when the vomiting finally stopped, and the pair were left completely drained- Wooyoung from being sick and San from being awake all night, ferrying back and forth between the bed and the bathroom to clean up so Wooyoung wouldn’t have to spend the night on the cold bathroom floor. Although Wooyoung’s stomach seemed to have finally calmed down, San knew he shouldn't leave him alone since he was still running a fever. He also knew that their wake up call was at 6:30, and he needed to at least try to get a few hours of sleep so he wouldn't be a complete zombie during the day’s activities. Wooyoung would no doubt be cleared from his schedules for the day, but being sleep deprived was not enough to grant San permission to sit out alongside him. Not wanting to disturb Wooyoung, who seemed to finally be getting some restful sleep, San stepped into the hallway to call Yeosang. The older man had a habit of waking up unreasonably early to have some quiet time alone before their hectic schedules, so San knew that, out of all the members, he was the most likely to be awake.
After a few rings, a vaguely sleepy "Hello?" came from the other end of the line.
"Hey, Sangie. Did I wake you?"
"No, you're good, I've been up for like fifteen minutes. What's up, San? It’s early.”
"Wooyoungie’s sick,” San started, not wanting to waste any time with formalities. “l've been up with him all night, he’s running a fever and he can’t keep anything down- we think it might be food poisoning from the fish he had at dinner. He finally settled down a little while ago, and I was hoping you could come stay with him so I could try and get some sleep. He’s not throwing up anymore so you shouldn't need to clean up or anything, but I just don't feel good leaving him alone after all that, you know?”
Yeosang wrinkled his nose. He wasn’t the biggest fan of dealing with sick people, but Wooyoung and San were two of his best friends and he’d do anything for them.
"Aigoo, poor Youngie,” he frowned, “give me five, I'll be right over."
“Thank you, Sang. I’m sorry you had to be the one I asked, I know you don’t do well with this kind of stuff, but I figured you’d be the only one awake and I didn’t wanna piss off Hongjoong hyung by interrupting his beauty sleep and Seonghwa hyung has been so tired and-“
“It’s fine, Sannie, really,” Yeosang cut him off, “I know you wouldn’t ask if you didn’t need to, and I’m happy to help. I’ll see you guys soon- do you need me to bring anything?”
“No, I think we’re all set here. The front desk gave me some crackers and Gatorade so maybe he can try those later if he’s feeling up for it, but he’s asleep right now so all you really need to do is watch him and make sure he doesn’t, like, choke on his puke in his sleep or anything.”
“Lovely. Thanks for that visual, San,” Yeosang grimaced, hanging up the call.
San went back over to sit on the bed while he waited for Yeosang. He looked at Wooyoung, finally sleeping peacefully next to him, and let out a breath he didn’t know he’d be holding. It had been a grueling night and San was utterly spent. His head was pounding from the lack of sleep, his clothes smelled vaguely of cleaning solution, and he didn’t think he’d ever be able to eat tilapia again, but more than anything else he was feeling in that moment, he was relieved. Relieved that he’d woken up all those hours ago instead of sleeping through the noise. Relieved that whatever god awful thing had been tormenting Wooyoung’s body finally seemed to be almost done with him. Relieved that he’d been able to be there for his friend so he didn’t have to suffer by himself. The thought of Wooyoung being alone all night, as horribly sick and miserable as he had been, made San’s heart clench painfully, and he was just so fucking relieved that he was able to be there instead.
After a few minutes, San heard a knock on the door. Whispering his thanks to Yeosang, San headed back to his own room for some much needed sleep, but not before sending Jongho a series of quick texts.
San Hyung: hey, are you feeling okay?
San Hyung: Wooyoungie’s sick, we think it might be the fish you guys ate 🤢
San Hyung: Yeosang is taking over for me here so if you need anything, call him
San Hyung: please don’t die!
***
Wooyoung woke up to the sound of typing, the rhythmic noise quietly audible in the otherwise silent room. He opened his eyes slowly, but immediately shut them again when a wave of nausea crashed over him. He waited for it to run its course, knowing he had nothing left in his body to throw up. When it finally passed, he rolled over, straining his eyes to try and read the alarm clock on the bedside table. 6:25am it flashed back at him in bold red letters. Wooyoung cursed his internal body clock for waking him up on time when he knew that being cleared from schedules for the day would’ve meant he was allowed to sleep in as long as he wanted.
Upon lifting his head from the pillow, Wooyoung was surprised to see a familiar figure perched on the armchair on the other side of the room, computer balanced on his knee and a light scowl on his face as he focused intently on something on the screen.
"Yeosang?" he called, cringing a bit at how rough his voice sounded from the strain of repeated vomiting. "What are you doing here?"
Yeosang looked up from his laptop with a bit of a start, evidently too engrossed in whatever he’d been working on to have realized the younger had woken up. He quickly made his way over to his friend, positioning himself on the side of the bed at Wooyoung’s feet. "Hey, Young-ah. San asked me to come keep an eye on you so he could get some sleep. How are you feeling?" The question was punctuated with a cold hand on Wooyoung’s forehead as Yeosang reached forward to check his temperature. “It seems like your fever went down.”
Wooyoung immediately felt a stab of guilt at the mention of San’s name. Shit. Wooyoung had kept him up all night, he must be exhausted and he was probably mad at him, and what if he had said something weird? He remembered crying but couldn’t remember what he’d *said*, what if he accidentally-
"Woo? Are you okay? Do you need the bin? Shit, where the hell did San put it, I thought he said you-“
Wooyoung looked up at Yeosang, who looked equal parts concerned and like he wanted to run out of the room, and realized his spacing out had given the ever so slightly squeamish member the impression that he was likely seconds away from throwing up all over the floor.
“I’m fine, Sangie, I’m not gonna be sick,” Wooyoung interrupted him before his panic could escalate. “I’m just… thinking.”
Visibly relaxing once the threat of imminent sickness was off the table, Yeosang stopped his frantic pacing and sat back down on the bed. It wasn’t that he couldn’t handle vomit, he just… strongly preferred not to.
“Oh? And what is it you’re thinking about so intently at this hour?” he prompted, handing Wooyoung the bottle of Gatorade that San had left for him on the bedside table. “San said to try and drink a bit of this if you’re feeling up for it. Slowly.” He added the last word after a moment of thought, remembering how San had mentioned Wooyoung had trouble even keeping water down in the hours prior. He so did not want to be cleaning up neon blue vomit at six in the morning.
Wooyoung frowned, pushing himself up onto his elbows. He took a tentative sip of the drink, then another when his stomach didn’t immediately protest at the introduction of the cool liquid. God, he felt hollow. Had he thrown up his actual organs last night? It felt like he had.
“I feel bad. About San, I mean. Well, I feel bad in general, but I really feel bad about San.”
“Why, did something happen?” Yeosang inquired. He scooted himself the rest of the way onto the bed so he was seated across from Wooyoung, who was now fully sitting up with his head resting back against the headboard, absentmindedly picking at the label of the Gatorade bottle in his hands.
“You mean besides him spending the entire night cleaning my puke? I- Sorry-“ he mumbled when he caught a glimpse of the mildly disgusted look on his friend’s face. Yeosang waved him off, and he continued, “I just feel guilty. He said it was fine, but I know he was lying. No one wants to spend their time looking after a sick person, it’s gross. I’m gross.”
Yeosang looked incredulous. “Young-ah, you know this is San we’re talking about, right? The San who would drop everything and run the moment he knew you needed something? The San who would give you the shirt off his back, and probably his pants and shoes too if you asked for them? That San?”
Wooyoung didn’t meet his eyes.
Yeosang scooted forward, trying to get a better look at his friend’s face. “What’s going on with you? It’s not like San hasn’t seen you sick before, why is it such a big deal this time?”
Before Wooyoung could respond, Yeosang’s phone buzzed with an incoming text.
🪨: I’m at the door. didn’t wanna knock in case Youngie’s still sleeping. can you let me in?
“Sannie’s here,” Yeosang relayed, already moving to answer the door. He turned back to point at Wooyoung before opening it. “This conversation isn’t over,” he warned, although his tone was light as he did so. He wasn’t upset, just concerned at his usually unabashed friend’s sudden insecurity.
Wooyoung could hear their hushed conversation from his place on the bed as Yeosang filled San in on the details of the rest of their night. ‘No, he hasn’t thrown up again (thank god). Yes, he’s still running a fever, but I think it’s lower than when you left. No, he hasn’t tried to eat anything yet, but he’s been able to keep down some Gatorade, but surely that much colored dye can’t be good for a sick person, right?’ Yeosang conveniently left out the part about Wooyoung definitely acting weird as fuck. Good, Wooyoung thought.
Why was it such a big deal this time? He repeated Yeosang’s question to himself while the two older members talked quietly in the doorway, trying to figure out what suddenly felt so different. Out of the dozens of times San had seen him sick, or hurt, or crying… why was he suddenly embarrassed this time? He normally had no problems with being vulnerable. He cried openly, complained even more so, and famously loved being doted on when he was sick. So why was it such a big deal this time? Wooyoung repeated the question again, but he already knew the answer, even if he didn’t want to admit it to himself. Something had shifted that night for him, a feeling he’d been trying to ignore for months out of fear of ruining the dynamic of the group or worse, his friendship with San. There had been a brief moment when he’d opened the door, just a split second before his stomach sent him scrambling back over the toilet, where he’d made eye contact with San. San, eyes still half lidded with sleep, tightly clutching Shiber under his arm, looking so worried. About him. Suddenly Wooyoung couldn’t ignore it, and now the idea of San seeing him vulnerable just didn’t feel easy the way it did with everyone else anymore. Wooyoung sighed, dragging the back of his hand across his face. He wanted to go back to sleep and pretend none of this had ever happened.
Stupid, nasty fish, he thought to himself with a huff. Ruining everything good in my life.
“I’ll go fill Hongjoong hyung in on what happened so he can let the managers know,” Yeosang told San, before peeking his head back around the corner to wave goodbye to Wooyoung. “Feel better Youngie! We’ll tell ATINY you miss them!”
Wooyoung offered his friend a small smile, returning the wave as the older member left the room, before turning his attention to San, who was already making his way over to the bed. A worried frown tugged at his lips upon seeing the state his friend was in. Wooyoung was expecting him to be tired, given how little sleep he must’ve been able to get that night, but San looked utterly beat. He was still in his pajamas and his hair was a mess, sticking up oddly on the side in a way Wooyoung wasn’t unfamiliar with seeing on the likes of Yunho or Jongho, but rarely on their perfectly poised San, and man, had those dark circles been there last night? Wooyoung was too out of it to have noticed. San still looked handsome- when did he not?- and it was nothing the stylist noonas couldn’t fix with a little bit of concealer and some hair gel, but the evidence of the night’s events were written clearly on his face and it made Wooyoung’s stomach turn with a familiar guilt. Had he even stopped to wash his face, or had he woken up and immediately come to check on Wooyoung?
"How are you feeling, baby?" San asked through a yawn as he went to take up Yeosang’s former position on the edge of the bed. He placed a hand on Wooyoung’s thigh over the covers, and Wooyoung felt his heart skip a beat.
"Like flaming garbage, but at least I don't feel like I'm about to puke my guts out every 15 minutes anymore," Wooyoung laughed awkwardly. "I'm sorry for keeping you up, by the way. You didn't need to stay, I was fine."
San scoffed in disbelief. "Woo, you were most definitely not fine. You threw up like a million times and you were running a pretty gnarly fever. Yeosang said you haven’t been sick again since I left though, and he thinks your fever went down, so that’s good.” He placed a hand on Wooyoung’s forehead to confirm his findings, giving a satisfied nod at the relative coolness he found compared to the prior night. “Probably means whatever nasty thing you ate is almost out of your system now.”
Wooyoung hummed in agreement, taking another sip of his Gatorade.
“Besides,” San continued, shifting his hand from Wooyoung’s forehead to tuck a stray bit of hair behind his ear, “I wanted to stay.”
Wooyoung paused with the bottle halfway to his lips, looking up to meet San’s gaze. He looked tired, but he didn’t look mad or disgusted, like Wooyoung had expected him to be. Quite the opposite, in fact. There was something soft in his eyes, something that made Wooyoung’s stomach flip in an entirely different way than it had been doing all night.
“Why though? I mean yeah, I know I was sick, but you could’ve called Seonghwa hyung to come over. He’s usually the one who deals with things like this.” Wooyoung didn’t know if it was the residual fever making him feel bold, or that spark of whatever he’d seen in San’s eye, but he couldn’t help but push.
“I didn’t want Seonghwa to be the one taking care of you. I wanted to do it.”
“But why?”
San paused for a moment, gathering the courage to get the words out. He hadn’t planned on confessing like this, but after the night the two had shared, suddenly the idea of keeping his feelings to himself any longer felt unbearable.
“Because I love you, Wooyoung,” he finally managed to say.
“Oh.”
“Oh?”
“You… love me?”
“Yes, I love you. I’m in love with you. However you wanna say it.” San rested his eyes on Wooyoung’s face, who suddenly looked like he’d been asked to try and understand rocket science. San knew he should probably feel exasperated at his friend’s utter cluelessness, but honestly, he couldn’t help but feel a bit endeared. Even with his hair a mess, still half up in the ponytail San had thrown it into the night before, even with his skin pale and clammy from a fever that hadn’t quite broken yet, even after having cleaned his stomach contents off the floor (and his own shirt after one particular instance he’d rather not remember the details of in the midst of that entire awful night)… even with all that, Wooyoung still looked beautiful. “Woo?” He gently called the younger’s name after he didn’t answer.
Wooyoung scrunched his nose in thought, trying to make sense of what he’d just been told, trying to think of a way to respond to his best friend so plainly reflecting back to him what he’d been trying all night to pretend he didn’t feel. His brain felt like mush, his stomach still felt a bit unsettled despite no longer actively feeling like he was going to turn himself inside out, and he felt weirdly sticky all over. This was not what he’d been expecting, at all.
“Oh,” he finally settled on once more, his feverish brain having tried and failed to come up with an adequate response.
“Is that all you have to say? Mr.Chatterbox suddenly at a loss for words?” San teased. He, too, was feeling bolder than he ought to be, considering the man he’d just confessed his feelings to was currently staring at him like he’d grown another head, but something in his gut told him it was okay, and now that he’d gotten the words out, all he felt was a strange sense of calm.
Wooyoung thought for another second, glancing down at his still fidgeting hands, before raising his eyes to meet San’s once more. “Can I kiss you?”
Now, it was San’s turn to be rendered speechless.

Author’s Note: Jongho, our beloved maknae with a stomach of steel, was entirely fine with not even the slightest hint of a stomach ache to complain of. He did, however, find great amusement in the idea of his hyung being taken down a piece of fish, although he was nice enough to save the brunt of his teasing until after Wooyoung could bear to be in the same room as seafood without gagging again.
A/N: This is N S F W, it is emeto-kink. Read at your own risk. So this is the other half of this fic, told from Jeremiah's POV. I followed the first story as closely as I could, so even though there were times I wanted to change or add the original dialogue, I didn't. Soon I'll write the couple's first time experimenting with their kink. I thought for a long time about how I'd show Jeremiah's feelings about his kink, and I'm happy with how this turned out. He's been hiding this secret for a long time.
Drew belched into fist and gave a small sigh of relief. “Sorry,” he said, giving Jeremiah an adorably sheepish grin. “I think maybe I ate dinner too fast.”
Jeremiah froze, feeling his face grow hot. He told himself it was just because his new boyfriend was so cute; but the thrum of panic that immediately followed wasn’t so easy to explain away. What the hell?
He hoped his response sounded casual and unconcerned. “Don’t worry about it, love.” His voice was calm; that was good. Drew nodded and smiled again and Jeremiah quickly asked for the check.
And maybe that would have been the end of it, but Drew shuffled in his seat and Jeremiah couldn’t tear his eyes away from the tightness around his mouth and the way his hand palmed the side of his stomach. He looked uncomfortable. And Jeremiah was a medical student; he couldn’t ignore it, could he? He studied Drew for a moment, debating, before carefully asking. “Are you, uhh, feeling okay?”
There was an odd catch in his voice he hoped wasn’t obvious, but then Drew burped again and the heat in Jeremiah’s face traveled lower. Now he was the one shifting uncomfortably.
Drew gave him a small smile. “I think so?”
Jeremiah took a deep breath. This was his and Drew’s tenth official date, and until now, Jeremiah had loved how quickly their relationship was gaining traction. It had been four months since he’d been assigned to watch over the same post-operative patient whose care Drew was managing. And four days less than four months since their first date at L’etoile, a date that had lasted into the early hours of the morning and yet didn’t even involve them falling into bed together. That had come at the end of date three, when Jeremiah had finally gotten the courage to admit that he’d never had fully penetrating sex with a man before. Drew hadn’t teased or been shocked or made Jeremiah feel like he was a challenge to be taken. Instead he’d made Jeremiah feel cared for, and curious, and amazing and fucking transported, and oh my god he was grateful for not letting Adam Calder talk him into losing his virginity with him. His first time had been with Drew and as far as Jeremiah was concerned, it had been perfect. And only gotten better since then.
There hadn’t been a day since when the two men didn’t send each other a dozen texts throughout the day, or meet for lunch at the hospital, or spend way too many hours on FaceTime when they probably should be sleeping.
They’d already seen each other cry, and get angry, and stressed, and act silly and stupid and blissfully happy. This was his boyfriend (and damn, he loved saying that), surely he could behave himself when his boyfriend had a stomach ache. Drew was a nurse, after all, and Jeremiah only eighteen months away from becoming a doctor. He certainly didn’t feel this way around his patients; why should it be any different around the man he was pretty sure he was falling in love with?
Drew interrupted his thoughts by putting his hand on Jeremiah’s arm. “It’s nothing; just a bit of indigestion,” he promised.
Oh fuck.
That sentence did something to him, as much as he wanted to deny it, and Jeremiah nodded stiffly. The smart thing to do would be to end the date now and suggest Drew go home before things . . . well, before. Jeremiah needed some time to think, and figure out what he was going to do about this . . . development. There was no way he’d be able to think clearly if Drew was there, burping and rubbing his stomach and making Jeremiah feel so unbalanced.
He took a deep breath. “Well if not, let . . . let me know and I can take you home.” That’s where he should have stopped, but his stupid mouth, fueled by his stupid, horny brain, kept going. “Or we could, uhh, go back to my place since it’s closer. If you think you need a . . . bathroom or something.”
He tried very hard not to think about Drew needing to be draped over a toilet in a bathroom. Damn, this was supposed to be a fun night for them, spending time together.. His and Drew’s schedules didn’t align as much as they wanted (or as much as their bodies demanded), and now Jeremiah was about to ruin it all.
He’d assumed they’d end up in bed together tonight. If Jeremiah had a normal brain and Drew wasn’t feeling well, it wouldn’t have been a problem. They didn’t have to do anything physical, and Jeremiah would have been just as happy, spending time taking care of his ill boyfriend. But Drew had a stomach ache and Jeremiah’s thoughts were a mess and his body was acting up and now something as innocent as cuddling was fraught with . . .
Jeremiah managed to push those thoughts aside when Drew easily agreed to his hesitant suggestion that they get ice cream. It was a test and Drew passed; he must be feeling okay, to be eating dessert, and Jeremiahs’ rapidly beating heart and tingling limbs gradually slowed back to normal.
It was okay. It was fluke; he’d been surprised, that’s all. He’d do better next time. This wasn’t a problem. His secret was safe.
And then Drew dropped his half-eaten cone into a garbage can and let out a wet burp that went straight to Jeremiah’s groin. He gulped down a sound, trying to look casually concerned.
“My stomach is upset; I’m sorry,” Drew explained, and there was an undercurrent of discomfort in his tone. “I think maybe it’s more than just eating too fast.” He grimaced, and Jeremiah’s entire body erupted with goosebumps.
He took a steadying breath.
“Why are you sorry?” They’d been walking side by side, eating their ice cream, and now Jeremiah stopped under a streetlight and let himself peer at Drew’s face. The man was pale, and breathing very deliberately, in and out. Tiny beads of sweat dotted his upper lip and it took all of Jeremiah’s willpower not to reach out and wipe them away. He may have only been a third-year medical student, but he recognized nausea when he saw it. But he didn’t know why Drew was apologizing.
Drew gave a sheepish shrug.
“I don’t know. I guess because I’m not feeling well and it’s interrupting our time together.” His stomach took that moment to gurgle and he laid his hand across it and rubbed lightly.
Jeremiah had to bite the inside of his cheek before answering. He probably wants to go home; don’t make this difficult. But something in Drew’s expression made him hesitate. The words spilled out of his mouth before he could think any more.
“Do you want to go home then? I mean, we’re close to my place if you wanted to just go relax there. I uhh, don’t mind if we have a quiet night in.” Drew burped again and Jeremiah’s breath caught. Don’t ignore his symptoms; be a doctor, Gable! He gave Drew a sympathetic grimace and finally asked the question he wanted to. “Are you nauseated?”
Drew gave a small nod. “A little, yeah,” he sighed. “I can’t tell if something isn’t agreeing with me or if I’m coming down with a bug of some sort.”
Gastrointestinal illnesses were always circulating at the hospital and Jeremiah tried to remember if any of the nurses he worked with had been out recently. Drew swallowed hard, and Jeremiah considered that the bottle of wine they’d shared at dinner couldn’t be helping things.
He suddenly realized he was staring. He lifted one hand towards Drew’s face and then stopped, uncertain. “May I?” he asked finally. “I know I’m not a nurse but I can probably figure out if you have a fever.” He couldn’t hold back a small smile. He was okay; he could do this.
To his relief, Drew chuckled. “I’m glad they’re teaching you something useful in medical school. Go ahead and feel me up then.” He smirked. “Only my forehead though. At least while we’re in public.”
Jeremiah blew out a breath. He wasn’t yet very good at making sexual innuendos but at least they were on more comfortable ground now. He smiled and then gently rested his hand against Drew’s forehead, and then moved it to his cheek, leaving it cupped there when Drew leaned his head against it. They stood there, swaying together slowly, and Jeremiah felt a surge of affection for the man in his arms. It made him feel bold.
“If you’re feeling better later maybe I can, uhh, feel up other things,” he mumbled. He felt his cheeks flame again but that was to be expected, right? He should be able to make normal suggestive comments to his boyfriend. It wasn’t weird.
He leaned in and pressed his lips against Drew’s forehead. “You feel a little warm but not too bad,” he pronounced. “I uhh, have Pepto at my apartment, if you want to try it. If it helps then we’ll know it’s likely food related.” Yes, this was good; he sounded properly medical and rational. He didn’t say what he really wanted, about what they’d do if the Pepto didn’t work. He wouldn’t - couldn’t - let his mind go there.
“Luring me back to your place with the promise of . . . hic . . .over-the-counter meds?” Drew teased through a queasy hiccup. “That’s a pickup line I haven’t heard yet.”
And just like that, Jeremiah was flustered again. He shuffled his feet on the sidewalk. “I can get you a taxi, if you’d rather.” He gazed at Drew uncertainly. “I uhh, know that some people like to be alone when they aren’t feeling well, but I umm, don’t mind if you want to come over.” He and Drew had actually gotten sick in front of each other once, with twin hangovers barely a month into their relationship. They’d both been too miserable to do much more than collapse together on the sofa after they were done throwing up.
Jeremiah hadn’t been even the slightest bit aroused that night. He’d concluded with relief that he was done with that part of his life, now that he had Drew. That had been something for the Jeremiah who was trying to figure out his sexuality. Now that he had, those old thoughts were finished.
Or so he’d thought. But now Drew was gulping and his adam’s apple was bobbing and Jeremiah was so turned on he could barely breathe.
He managed to keep himself together, but the urge to touch his boyfriend - even platonically - was too strong. He trailed his hand down Drew’s cheek and rested it on his shoulder, trying not to shiver. “I’ll understand if you just want to go home,” he added softly.
Drew shook his head so gingerly Jeremiah knew he was dizzy.
“I don’t . . . want to go home.” He gave a small, apologetic shrug. “I’m not going to be much fun though.” His stomach gurgled and he put his fist to his mouth to muffle the belch that came up. It was deep and wet and he spit onto the sidewalk - and it was more than just saliva. He gulped down and found Jeremiah’s eyes. “See?”
That was it. It was obvious Drew was sick and Jeremiah lived close. It made sense to take him there; it would be irresponsible not to. He tugged the man’s hand until he started walking, still hiccupping under his breath. “Feeling worse then?” he asked, almost conversationally. “I’m three blocks away; do you think you can make it?” He didn’t add that they really didn’t have a lot of other options, and if he was pulling Drew along harder than he should, it was only to get him off the street and someplace comfortsble before he felt even worse.
Drew gulped down again before answering. “Yeah, don’t worry. I’m nauseous but it’s not bad enough to throw up.”
Jeremiah was beginning to doubt that, but then Drew snuggled into his side, which Jeremiah took as an invitation to carefully wrap an arm around his waist. He could feel Drew’s stomach bubbling under his hand and it was all he could do not to press his palm against it. But then Drew spoke.
“Maybe you can give me a belly rub or something.”
The man’s voice was light, but Jeremiah’s entire body tingled, and he was sure Drew heard his breath hitch. He stumbled over a non-existent crack in the sidewalk and tried to get his bearings.
“I . . . could do that,” he agreed in a thin voice. A belly rub? Only if his head - or other parts - didn’t explode first. His arm tightened around Drew’s waist. “I just want you to feel better.”
“Me too,” Drew agreed. He stopped walking suddenly.
Jeremiah froze too. Is he going to vomit? What do I do if he vomits? He tried to imagine Drew was just another one of his patients. He’d just finished a rotation in the ER, where it seemed like not even a day went by with someone throwing up. It hadn’t bothered him at all. But this was entirely different. He sucked in a deep breath, bracing himself for his boyfriend to lose his dinner and how he was going to respond.
“Gimme a second; gotta . . . burp,” Drew stuttered instead. He leaned forward and forced down some air before burping softly a couple of times. Then he shuddered a let out a weak gag, clearly miserable, and instinctively, Jeremiah stepped forward and put his hand on his back.
“I’ve got you; don’t fight it.” Jeremiah began patting, lightly at first and then a little more firmly until Drew finally managed a deep belch. He spit at the end, and Jeremiah saw his jaw tighten with an aborted heave.
“Thank you,” he gasped. “I really needed that.”
“Glad . . . glad I could help then.” Jeremiah’s voice was calm, he thought, but he couldn’t hold back the waver in it, or prevent the goosebumps that were making his entire body tingle.
They started walking again. Drew kept burping softly under his breath to try to keep the nausea at a manageable level, and Jeremiah silently repeated the steps of a neurological exam in his head to try to keep his body from giving him away.
The quiet was broken by Drew.
“Sorry I’m being so gross,” he said finally. ‘I’m pretty sick to my stomach.”
Drew looked sideways at Jeremiah, and for a wild second Jeremiah thought that he knew, but he realized he was just checking in to make sure he was still okay taking his obviously sick boyfriend back to his apartment. As if he had to ask . . .
“Not feeling better?” It was a dumb question but they were approaching the front of Jeremiah’s apartment, and he heard Drew give a tiny sigh. He shook his head.
“Not really, no,” he admitted. “I may actually have to lose that lovely dinner we shared earlier.” He burped into his fist. “It doesn’t seem to want to stay down.”
Jeremiah couldn’t stop his hand from jerking convulsively in Drew’s grip. Arousal coursed through him and he made a sound, low in his throat. Drew was sick to his stomach. Drew felt like he was going to vomit. Holy hell. And now it was too late to try to send the man home, not that Jeremiah wanted to. “Oh that’s . . . umm . . . I’m sorry,” he stuttered.
His voice sounded strained, even to himself. “Do you need to vomit right now?” Before he realized what he was doing he brushed his free hand down the front of his khaki’s. Desire and need were mixed equally with panic and he had no idea what to do.
His body felt like it wasn’t his own and his brain was on fire and he was about to lose everything if he couldn’t pull himself together. So he had to pull himself together and he had to ignore the fact that one of his stupid, perverted, ridiculous sexual fantasies seemed to be coming true. He hadn’t thought about them in over four months, and never about Drew, and the swiftness at which it all roared back was unnerving. But they were inside his building now, and Jeremiah had only a few minutes to figure out how to care for his boyfriend without making a complete cake of things between them.
Drew’s voice, thick with nausea, interrupted Jeremiah’s silent battle.
“I . . . I don’t need to throw up yet,” he managed, and Jeremiah dug his fingernails into his palm.
Drew followed him into the elevator and to the man’s shock, as soon as the doors closed, Drew pushed him against the wall and leaned in as if to kiss him, and there was no way Jeremiah could hide the fact that he was hard.
Drew’s eyes flew open in surprise. “Oh . . . sweetheart,” he gulped. “I’m so sorry, but I don’t think I can do much about . . . uhrrp . . . that right now.” For some reason Jeremiah couldn’t follow, Drew dropped his hand down between them anyway until Jeremiah grabbed his wrist and stopped him. He had no idea why Drew had tried to kiss him when he was obviously feeling so awful, but it clearly wasn’t because he had any idea what was going on in Jeremiah’s brain right now and wanted to indulge that.
“Don’t,” he said, more harshly than he meant. “I’m not . . . I didn’t mean . . . oh fuck.” The elevator doors slid open and he quickly turned away and rushed out.
Drew followed him slowly. “Sweetheart? It’s okay, really,” he called out, but Jeremiah kept walking until a grunt behind him made him whirl around.
Drew was bent over, hands braced on his knees and breathing heavily.
“Fuck. It’s not your . . . are you . . . ?” He walked back to the man and touched his back. “Can you make it inside? Just a few more steps.” At least the urgency of the moment had given Jeremiah some focus. He briskly unlocked the door while Drew sucked in a deep, slow breath and then slowly straightened up.
“I’m . . . I’m okay,” he gasped. He burped suddenly. “I mean, I’m really nauseous, but I’m not . . . ugh . . . I can wait.”
Jeremiah stood frozen, watching his boyfriend pant and struggle and wholly unsure what to do. He was still aroused, damn it, and Drew could obviously see it. At this point he was so hot he was surprised his body hadn’t combusted, but right now he had to help Drew before he vomited all over the floor..
“That’s not important,” he said firmly. “Let’s get you in front of a toilet.” He began ushering Drew down the hall to the apartment’s only bathroom. The nurse was making pained sounds as if he wanted to say something, but it was clear he was almost beyond being able to talk. That suited Jeremiah just fine. Hopefully Drew would get sick once or twice, fall asleep, and then Jeremiah would have time to figure out some sort of excuse for his behavior that didn’t result in the man walking out of his life.
As soon as they got into Jeremiah’s bathroom Drew retched so harshly that Jeremiah wondered how he’d been holding it down.
“Oh god, he groaned, leaning heavily on Jeremiah to lower himself to the ground and spitting into the water. “I really do not feel well.” He rocked back and forth, panting in a way Jeremiah knew was meant to induce him to vomit as quickly as possible.
“I know you don’t, sweetheart. It’s okay.” He couldn’t not help; Drew was clearly miserable, and for the moment, Jeremiah’s need to comfort his boyfriend overcame everything else he was feeling. Carefully, he knelt down behind the sick man and grasped the tops of Drew’s arms to offer support.
Drew burped hollowly over the bowl, and when nothing came up immediately, fell suddenly back into Jeremiah’s lap.
Jeremiah grunted with surprise but he couldn’t have controlled the rest of his reaction if he’d tried. Before he knew what had happened, he’d moved against Drew, pressing into his back and grasping at his hips. Drew let out a nauseous chuckle.
“I can’t believe you still want . . . me, even though I’m about to puke.” He burped again, wet and deep.
There was half a second where Jeremiah thought he might be able to escape this. Drew still didn’t realize anything. Jeremiah could back off, apologize, and tell Drew that of course he didn’t want to do anything while he was sick.
But then Drew gagged and Jeremiah tingled all over. He sucked in a shaky, audible breath and squeezed his eyes shut, feeling his face heat up. In front of him, he felt when Drew twisted around.
“Sweetheart?” Drew touched his cheek and Jeremiah knew he had to say something.
“I’m . . . sorry,” he mumbled. “This is so . . . oh god I’m sorry.” He pushed himself backwards so he wasn’t touching Drew anymore. “I should be taking care of you and instead I’m . . . “ His hands twisted as he tried to explain the secret he’d kept since he was a child. “I’m not like this with anyone . . . with my patients. I just . . . I can’t . . . “ He finally opened his eyes and met Drew’s, expression tortured. “I’m so sorry.” He choked out half a sob.
He could see it on Drew’s face when it clicked.
“it’s okay. . . Jer . . . it’s okay,” he gasped, before burping so deeply his body shook.
“Sorry,” he mumbled, turning quickly back to the toilet and bracing his arms on the seat. “I’m going to . . .” his words were lost in a burping retch and Drew vomited up his dinner. He gasped and spit, and then to Jeremiah’s shock, reached one hand blindly behind him as he threw up again.
Jeremiah stared at that hand for what seemed like an eternity before grabbing it and then , rubbing the other up and and down Drew’s back as he heaved. “I’ve got you,” he said, feeling oddly calm. There was nothing he could do about it, and Drew needed him, at least for the moment. “Just . . . get it all up and then you can lie down.”
Drew swayed over the bowl, spitting, and then finally let his ass fall heavily onto the tile floor. Jeremiah silently handed him a wad of toilet paper to wipe his mouth and then backed away again. How could he have let this happen? What the fuck was wrong with him, that after years of denying everything about himself he’d finally found happiness and then ruined it all in one night? His eyes prickled and he squeezed them shut again.
He would not cry over this. He’d stay calm, and comfort Drew for as long as he needed, and admit what a disgusting person he was, and then, and then . . . he just didn’t know..
For a long moment, the only sound in the room was Drew’s panting breaths as he tried to calm his stomach. Jeremiah stared at the floor, waiting to say the words that would end things, when Drew reached out a shaky hand to lift his chin. “Hey,” he croaked. “Look at me.”
Jeremiah shook his head. “I’m so sorry,” he mumbled. “I never meant. . . I thought I could . . .” he finally lifted his face to Drew’s. “I’ll understand if this . . . changes things. Or if you want to . . . not see me anymore.” He twisted his hands together, wishing he could somehow freeze time, that he could stay Drew’s boyfriend for just a little while longer, even if it was no longer real.
To his shock, Drew scoffed.
“You think I’d break up with you over a kink?” he asked. “Fuck, Jeremiah, that’s not how this works.” He shook his head. “I know we haven’t talked about this kind of thing yet but I figured it was coming, as you got more comfortable with your sexuality” He shrugged, and Jeremiah felt a flicker of something . . . not horrible. He waited, letting Drew think this through at his own pace.
“So . . .you’re into what, vomit?” When Jeremiah gave a tiny nod he burped softly into his fist and then waved away Jeremiah’s look of concern. “I’m fine,” he said impatiently. “Well, not exactly fine, but I’m not about to spill my guts again.” He reached out and grabbed Jeremiah’s hand. “This is important.” He squeezed. “How long?”
Jeremiah took a deep, shuddering breath. He’d never spoken about this with anyone before and now the words spilled out of him like a confession and he was seeking absolution. “Longer than since I’ve realized I’m gay. A lot longer.” He shrugged. “I don’t know how to describe it, but I’ve always been . . . aroused by . . . I don’t know.” He wrung his hands together. “The thought of someone feeling sick, and trying not to get sick. And I get to take care of them.” He met Drew’s eyes again, determined to be absolutely honest. “I have not been thinking about this with you; I swear. All the times we’ve been together and everything we’ve done . . . it’s been amazing, and I wasn’t secretly hoping you’d get nauseated or anything. And it doesn’t happen with my patients, not at all. It’s always just been something private to think about.”
Now that he was talking, Jeremiah couldn’t stop. If Drew was going to somehow accept this, he needed to know it all. “I didn’t think it would happen with you, or . . . I thought I could hide it.” He flushed again. “And then tonight you burped, and told me your stomach was upset, and I . . . “ I couldn’t help it.” He raised his hands helplessly. There was so much more to explain, but Drew’s expression was growing uncomfortable again so Jeremiah stopped talking to give him space. The man gulped nauseously and then burped, looking pensive.
“I meant it when I said it’s okay,” he said finally, and even about to vomit again, it was obvious he meant it. Jeremiah’s heart thumped so firmly he was surprised Drew couldn’t hear it.
Drew swallowed hard. “I could tell that it’s got a big . . . urhhrp . . . caretaking piece to it for you, right?” He leaned forward and spit into the toilet. “I’m going to puke again soon,” he warned. Jeremiah gave a watery chuckle.
“That’s okay. I mean, of course it’s okay, even if I wasn’t . . . you know.” He began rubbing up and down Drew’s back again. “I guess I thought it might go away once I started having more . . . normal sexual experiences, you know? But I guess it didn’t.”
Drew huffed with amusement. “Oh sweetheart,” he gasped, belching hard and rising back up onto his knees so he could lean over the bowl.. “I hope that nothing we do counts as ‘normal sexual experiences,’ okay?” He turned his head to find Jeremiah. “We’re just getting started, okay?”
For the first time since Drew had burped way back at dinner, Jeremiah allowed himself to smile. Maybe he wasn’t about to get broken up with, after all. And if Drew wanted him to keep this . . . kink . . . just to himself, well Jeremiah could do that. He’d do whatever the man in front of him asked.
But then Drew retched again and gasped out. “When . . . when you were behind me. I didn’t mind it,” and Jeremiah felt an entirely new level of desire shoot through him. Biting back a grin now, he snaked a hand around his boyfriend’s waist and gently palmed his stomach. “Come on, love,” he said gently, feeling relief more than anything. “Get it up and you’ll feel better.”
He felt it when Drew’s stomach rolled, and wasn’t sure whose body was tingling more. “Okay,” he gasped. “Gonna puke now.” He lurched forward and did just that, gagging and retching and spitting until he seemed nearly wrung out. Jeremiah caught him, and gave in, chasing the pleasure until he shuddered with a climax he’d never imagined in his wildest dreams.
Drew chuckled softly and turned his head to press a sticky kiss into Jeremiah’s bicep. “Can I brush my teeth?” he asked blearily. “Before we kiss?”
Jeremiah hadn’t imagined Drew would want to kiss.
“Yes please.” He slowly helped Drew to his feet and held him while he rinsed his mouth and splashed water on his face. “I’m not really into the actual vomit, you know?” He began pulling off his pants and underwear, blushing, but feeling pleased and content and shy and eager. But Drew was nearly swaying with exhaustion and that was all Jeremiah focused on. “Do you think you’re ready to lie down? I'll bring a bucket.”
“Wait.” Drew turned in Jeremiah’s arms. He touched his cheek and looked him in the eyes. “I love you.” They’d never said it before, and Jeremiah’s eyes went wide. “And I know this is probably a ridiculous time to say it, and you don’t have to say it back, but . . . you trusted me with something tonight and I wanted you to know that I . . .”
“I love you too; I love you so much,” Jeremiah interrupted, and he felt like his grin was going to split his face. “And I’ve been wanting to say it, but I was worried it was too soon, or that all . . . this, might change things.” He put his hand on Drew’s cheek. “But I really love you.”
Drew blew out a breath and lay his head on Jeremiah’s chest. “I’ve been wanting to say it for a while too,” he admitted. “And I’m glad I did.” He tilted his head back. “I love you.”
Jeremiah gently touched his lips to Drew’s. If this was a virus, he was absolutely going to get it, but he didn’t care at all. He had no idea how he’d feel if he was the one getting sick, but now it seemed like he was going to have all the time in the world to find out.
B looked up and down the halls, but they just couldn't find where A had run off to. That is, until B turned the corner. Soft whimpering could just barely be heard from inside the bathroom.
Oh boy...
B knocked.
*Gasp-*
"A, could you let me in?"
-
It was a violent mix of sobbing, shaking, and vomiting. B held A's hair out of their face and rubbed circles into their back.
"Shh... It'll be okay... This is natural, sweetie..."
It just kept coming, and coming, and coming...
"My poor baby..."
-
A was sobbing loudly in B's arms. Their entire body was shivering. The taste of bile still stung in their mouth.
"It's all over, darling. You're alright. You're safe."
"I- *hic* did everyt-thing right, I..." A's voice was painfully hoarse.
"I know, sweetheart. It's okay. Everything is okay now."
"w... WHY? WHAT D-DID I DO WRONG?" A sobbed and cried uncontrollably, still being tenderly held by B.
"Nothing, love. It just happens. But you're safe."
after a couple of weeks and MONTHS of thinking on it, I finally decided to write my first emeto sickfic. honestly, despite the lack of character development/personality, I already know I am going to love these two and am excited to see them grow as my writing progresses. anyways, enjoy! hopefully the formatting remains alright.

Kalani already knew it was going to be a gloomy, cloudy day by the absence of sunshine that typically poured through her blinds. Sighing, she rolled over off her bed and stood up in an unbalanced manner. She moved the duvet all around to ensure that no leaks happened overnight, and was thankful to wake up to her bed not looking like a crime scene. After standing, a deep, sharp pain in her lower abdomen tempted her to crawl back into bed. Instead, she slowly threw on her fleece lined sweats and a hoodie, then lazily put her hair up in a claw clip; too tired for her usual cornrows or braided pigtails. She popped in her Airpods and headed out of her apartment.
*** ***
All of her classes seemed to drag on excruciatingly slow. Professors droning on about nothing at all, classmates asking questions about nothing thought provoking. Even if there were interesting things to be discussed, Kalani had no energy to focus on anything. Throughout each course, she could feel her eyelids flutter, and her head would feel too heavy to hold up each time she leaned against her arm. Veterinary ethics was her last class, and she had never been so happy to walk out of the door. She pulled out her phone, and sent a text to her partner.
“Finally finished with all my classes for the day. Ready to grab a bite?”
She decided to start walking to the dining hall, despite Shiloh not texting back yet. The sky was enveloped by a soft, grey blanket of clouds, and there was a very light drizzle to greet her on her walk. Feeling more sleepy by the minute, she tried to wake herself up with more upbeat music so she could actually engage with him and get something to eat. Maybe that would help her stop feeling so peckish. Her phone went off.
“One step ahead of you, I already have seats :) Sys <3 ”
After what seemed like a whole hour, she finally made it to the dining hall. She opened the door and saw Shiloh waving her over to the empty seat next to him. A pitiful “hey” was all she could manage. Her stomach started to feel like an unsettled sea, stomach acid boiling.
“Long day, huh?” Shiloh asked. He had a plate of food in front of him, but waited for her to actually arrive before he started eating, other than a few fries he picked at.
“Just slowww,” Kalani drew out the last syllable and leaned toward him. “My uterus is trying to kill me.” She watched him devour his food like the dining hall was a five star restaurant. As hungry as she was, the churning in her stomach discouraged any idea of attempting to eat. Instead, she reached over and sipped her boyfriend’s soda. After stealing a few of his fries, she put her head down.
Any other day, she would love the aesthetic that today had to offer. Crisp, autumn air, gentle rainfall, everyone in cozy sweaters, the smell of coffee.. Her usual enjoyments in the small things became her enemy as she was reminded of the stabbing in her uterus and malaise she wished to ignore. The general odor of the dining hall offended her nose, and she used a sleeve to cover her face as she lethargically sat up.
“You alright, sweetheart?” Shiloh asked softly, rubbing Kalani’s head underneath her hoodie. Her head was hot, and he could feel her bangs clinging to her sweaty forehead. God, she was burning up.
‘No…” Kalani said, her voice small and quavering. “I think I might puke.” she admitted, and by the looks of it, it would happen pretty soon. She shakily pulled her hood off, and to Shiloh’s surprise, she was sheet white. Panting, she used the little strength she had to push herself away from the table. Without another word, she hastily made her way out the side door, leaving her phone and backpack at the table. Shiloh followed her lead and grabbed her belongings.
Shiloh caught up to his girlfriend just in time to see her double over. He heard a violent retch tear up her throat and immediately sat down their things to place a hand on the small of her back. Using that hand to rub her back in small circles, he used the other to keep her head lifted so she didn’t vomit on herself. His go-to was to hold her hair back, but her trusty tortoise shell claw clip took care of that. “You’re okay, I got you.. Just get it all up.” he encouraged her.
Kalani coughed and trembled as another wave of her of stomach contents splashed against the grass. Some of the sick had come out of her nose, and she plugged one nostril to blow out a very attractive, spicy snot rocket. She sighed and looked over to Shiloh. “I hate this, I wish--” her whining was cut off by a heave that brutally rattled her entire frame, bringing up bile this time.
Shiloh started patting her back at this point, and whispered to her. “I know, I’m sorry, Lain.” he cooed, leaning on her. He gave her back one final pat, and helped her stand up straight. “Think you’re all finished?” She was clearly empty now. His girlfriend wiped her mouth with her sleeve and nodded.
“Sorry you had to see that..” she apologized as her face tinted red. At first he couldn’t tell if it was from exertion or embarrassment, but it became clear when her lip quivered and tears started rolling down her flushed cheeks. Pulling her in for a tight hug, he patted her head and shushed her. His embrace was so warm, and his ocean breeze cologne was so comforting. She took in a deep breath, inhaling his scent more, then sighed.
“Oh, my poor, sweet girl.” He lightly swayed side to side with her, still hugging her, as if rocking an infant to sleep. “Well, if you’re okay now, how ‘bout we head home, snuggle up, and watch a movie with unlimited chocolate?”
“You’re so corny!” She scoffed at his somewhat stereotyped, but appealing idea of a game plan for the evening. “But yes, ku’upio, that would be nice.” She affirmed, picking up her things and taking his hand in hers. A long night of cozy cuddles was just what she needed.
Sorry I took such a long break from tumblr. My entire sickfic/whump blog I’ve had for quite a while got deleted I guess for having kink content even though nothing was explicitly sexual? So many writings, role plays, and the entirety of the active community and my favorites who post sporadically were lost. So if you write sickfic, emeto, or whump, please interact with this so I can start to rebuild.
