Horse packing into Deer 🦌 Creek in Emigrant Wilderness was a splendid way to round out this year’s Blue Mind Challenge this Labor Day Weekend. The heavy snowfalls fed stunning meadows loaded with wildflowers. Lakes were warm enough to swim. Stars ✨ reflected in the lakes at night and trees 🌲 by day. Granite bowls made majestic backdrops for watercolors. “Oh, shit” we both exclaim as the van exhales a couple of loud “pows” acting as though she had no breath left to keep her going up the remaining three miles of a 6% grade incline. We were headed to a free tent campsite within the 3.4 million acres known as Death Valley National Park when suddenly the nightmare in the back of both our minds upon entering the park reared its ugly head. Van issues within a National Park with no cell reception or help had become a reality for us. However, the next week and a half proved to be quite a blessing as we were able to find enough limited WiFi at the park’s hotel to order parts and have them shipped with no additional fee using the hotel’s address. We spent a good amount of time at the free campsite awaiting the package that would get us up and out. Tuesday came and so did the package along with everything to turn around our scary misfortune. In the process of discovering the issue, Thomas found 2 spark plug wires had gone bad and left our one ton van performing on less than ideal power. A rare moment when the sun sets, the moon peaks through the clouds, and the whole world turns into a cotton candy dream! We were lucky enough to be hiking in the #emigrantwilderness when this happened. If felt as if the pieces had come together, the puzzle complete, the elements aligned. Being in the right place at the right time...makes for an amazing image. So often when I am hiking I try to take note of where I want to be when the sun starts to fall behind the mountains. A good location for the nice light to play out and bid the day goodnight. But sometimes, more often than I would like to admit, it is just about being out there and ready to capture those moments that happen without warning. As I explored #reliefreservoir I was taking a few shots of the many rusty parts from years gone by, when a rogue black cloud passed in front of the sun. The landscape darkened and I'm pretty sure i said out loud, no one to hear me but Angel the Husky, "what the WOW is this light!" I Quickly dialed in new exposure settings, hoping I could capture the beautiful scene that played out before me. #emformdesign #moments #emigrantwilderness

Late summer afternoon hikes into a corner of the #emigrantwilderness are one of my absolute favorite things to do. This is without a doubt , one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Huge amounts of granite, loose volcanic soil, frozen lakes, spring fed streams, mountain peaks, and flowers galore. Here we scramble over rocky spines and rushing creaks as we make our way up #bluecanyon. #emformdesign #getoutthere
