i love you how draw andrew,,, so yummy. what went into your design for him thought wise?

hi thank you here’s a probably way too in depth break down (with accompanying bad doodles)

Design wise, Andrew to me has always boiled down to the things neil harps on about the most: he gives off the impression that you can lean your weight (emotional or physical) against him and he wouldn’t even shift, He takes things at face value, if he makes you a promise he’ll keep it, etcetc

To this point, Andrew is, in a sense, a very simple person! You get what you see with him, and the conflict only arises when everyone else chooses to misinterpret his actions and words because ‘things cannot be that easy’

I think this idea is reflected in my design of him, I really don’t draw him in any flashy way or have a super original design for him, because to me that’s not what being Andrew is about.

In general, the goal when I draw him is for him to exude a quiet sense of stability and strength, of safety and assurance (his small height helps with this tbh LOL). Then, compared to Aaron, I tend to focus on Andrew’s shoulders and arms when filling him out because Andrew’s character is so entwined with the touches he permits and the ones he doesn’t. It makes sense he’d be strong there, I want there to be a focus on his arms, his hands, and what he’s doing with them.

he’s strong, but he’s not healthy. he eats like shit and he smokes and he drinks so again whereas aaron is leaner I like giving Andrew more of a tummy plus tummies just rock

face wise andrew keeps his hair a bit shorter than aaron, so they still pass as one another but people who care enough to look can tell the difference. also I rarely give him any expression that isn’t ._. because Andrew does not show his feelings through his face, a trait i firmly believe is something simply Andrew. in moments of intense emotion I think he would (ie when Kevin got his tattoo redone) but I think it would look painful and not last very long
