EMPATHY IS
- Taking the perspective of another person AND recognizing their perspective as their truth
- Recognizing emotion in another person then communicating that
- A vulnerable choice
- Feeling WITH people. The ability to get down on their level and say “I see what it’s like down here, and you are not alone.’’
EMPATHY IS NOT
- Sympathy
- Judgmental
*Rarely is a response to someone sharing something bad with you going to make that bad situation better, what’s going to help is connecting. Say something like, “I don’t even know what to say right now, I’m just so glad you told me.’’
