immediately after thundercat and his jazz fusion quartet destroyed everyone's musical sensibilities and he'd properly established himself as a savior of modern music (just sayin'), it honestly didn't seem like there was anywhere to go after that. touché, daedelus. alfred darlington, performing at the same venue he'd headlined five days earlier, threw down with by FAR the best set i've ever seen him perform, masterfully blending styles on his monome to create a stunningly cohesive whole. dubstep was prominently featured here, compared to the house-heavy set he'd dropped on monday, though that, drum and bass, forceful trance, and even his characteristic delicately symphonic self all made appearances at points. i think seeing him around sxsw several times after monday night and occasionally mentioning that i loved the set but was hoping for a bit more bass clarinet might've helped. this video contains some decent drops and is obviously from a great vantage point, but it truly doesn't do the performance justice; me and the people i was with literally stared at each other in astonishment at least ten times throughout, after he orchestrated perfect transitions between one face-scalding track to another. wielding two-handed musical fireballs with little to no reprieve....all i can say is that he was on. looking forward to seeing if he can recapture the magic of this set at his 7:45pm sunday gig at wakarusa.
