Why STEM?
The Senior High School students opting to take the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - STEM Strand have a set of core subjects slightly different from those taking the other strands. It is one of the academic tracks that focuses in four specific disciplines such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Why do you need to choose STEM as your Senior High School Strand? I choose STEM because it is accurate in the course that I want when I go to college. This strand offers a wide array of opportunities and it helps me give a little light about my lessons towards my college life. I want to pursue Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering in college and I know that STEM strand is the compatible strand for my course in college. More of this, studying subjects like Calculus, Physics, Technology, Chemistry and others can make our mind advance and it makes us much prepared on college. Aside from improving student's learning, STEM also has a process of teaching and learning that offers students opportunities to make a difference. Another reason why most of the students choose STEM because most of the careers in STEM usually offer above-average salaries that will benefit them and support their living. STEM graduates have flexibility within their profession to pursue multiple career paths. There are so many courses in the Philippines that are mostly covered by STEM strand which are on demand in the industry and most of the time they are high-salary jobs. It's been predicted that 75 percent of all jobs require STEM skills over the next decade. STEM graduates earn 87% more than the average salary of the non-STEM graduate. As of now, Engineer, Pilot, Doctor, Architect and Ophthalmologist are the best paying job in the Philippines.
Apart from that for some, choosing the right strand is not just about making new friends and discovering new things related to a subject. More important, it is about envisioning your dream job and career path. Choosing a career is difficult in itself, but senior high school prepares you to make crucial decisions that will impact your future. Studying and working in STEM means learning about the world around you, finding innovative solutions to real-world challenges, and playing a role in some of the country’s major discoveries and developments.
