MAJOR TFA SPOILERS//// The case for Rey Skywalker.
okay after seeing TFA twice, I am positive that Rey is a Skywalker and she is Luke’s daughter. Here are the reasons for why this theory makes sense to me (and of course spoilers will follow):
JJ said that they cast Rey with no race in mind. Both Leia and Han are white. Since we don’t know who Rey’s mother is, if they cast a POC as Rey, one could say she got that look from her mother, something that would be impossible in the Solo family. We know the force runs strong in the Skywalker family and we see Rey take down a stormtrooper without any training as well as block Kylo’s mind control. That combined with Kathleen saying that the sequel trilogy is a generational saga which probably extends beyond Kylo being a Solo. Like Vader was only brought into the light by another Skywalker, it makes sense that another Skywalker would be the one to possibly redeem Kylo.
Additionally, neither Han nor Leia recognize her or acknowledge her as their daughter in episode VII. While one could make a case for Han being unaware, there is no way that Leia wouldn’t recognize her daughter. Instead she was 100% focused on bringing Kylo home, not looking for her daughter. While they both were parental towards her, that doesn’t mean that they are her parents and I think it would have been odd for them to see her without telling her (especially as a way of Leia encouraging Han to go after Rey beyond the fact that Finn wants to rescue her).
Rey is heavily paralleled with Luke throughout VII and her journey is very much a mirrored image of Luke’s journey in IV. She is a gifted pilot like Luke (and Anakin too), she is gifted at fixing things like Anakin and Luke, she pulls a lightsaber from the snow like Luke did in V, she has a rebel doll in her home that wears an outfit similar to that Luke wore when he took down the death star, etc. She finds a droid with an important message and finds herself caught up in the resistance much like Luke in IV. Luke’s lightsaber calls to her and she sees visions of the past and future when she touches it, implying a connection between the two through the Force which we know shows us visions of the past and the future.
Speaking of visions of the past, Kylo discusses how she sees an island before she falls asleep every night. Now Rey has spent much of her life in Jakku and we see her earlier saying that she had never seen so much green before. I propose that the island she sees is the island that Luke is on and that it is the Force bringing this image to her as an attempt to reunite her with her family (and we know the Force wants the Skywalkers together as shown in IV with Luke and Leia’s reunion against all odds). This could either be a subconscious memory or a future vision but it seems too coincidental that Rey dreams of an island before going to sleep and Luke has spent the past few years on an island.
If VII is supposed to mirror things happening in IV, it would make sense for VIII to be a mirror of V which is when Luke finds out that Vadar is his father. Therefore, by getting the reveal in VIII, we are again bringing the focus on Rey’s journey being a parallel to Luke’s and works with the mirrored journey which has been shown to us so far.
Finally if Rey is Luke’s daughter, I think that he is unaware that she’s alive. One thing that the original trilogy made clear was that Luke never gives up. Something major must have happened for him to do so and to leave his daughter behind. I think he didn’t leave her behind and is under the impression that he was the cause of her death. I think that maybe Kylo Ren abandoned Rey on Jakku and was unable to kill her (we see him struggle with being evil in TFA)(it is also implied that he knows her and in the novelization, he says “It’s you” when he sees her again which means he must have known about her). As long as Luke was gone, there was no hope of the Jedi returning. What no one expected was the raw power behind Rey even without training and that she would ever leave Jakku and go on the hunt for Luke (an idea that maybe Kylo implanted in her head). This would also explain the look on Luke’s face when he sees Rey again which is a mixture of joy and sadness.
These are just a few reasons why I think that Rey is a Skywalker and why episode VIII will reveal the truth behind her parentage. I know I’m probably missing a few but this something that I’ve been thinking about a lot and I think makes sense for the kind of story that Kathleen said they were trying to tell.
MAJOR TFA SPOILERS/SPECULATION
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. DON’T READ UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED.
I just got back from seeing the movie a second time (and yes it was just as good) and this time I noticed something. Kylo Ren says that Rey imagines an island before she goes to sleep. Yet earlier in the film, we see her say she’s never seen so much green and given that Jakku is a desert planet, it would make sense that she had never seen an ocean before. Later, we find out that Luke has been living on an island for years. I propose that it was the Force that was putting this vision into her head as a way of leading Rey back to her father. Also if Luke is her father, I think he doesn’t know she’s still alive because he wouldn’t abandon his daughter alone on a planet (I MEAN THE DUDE DIDN’T GIVE UP ON DARTH VADER AND HE CHOPPED HIS HAND OFF... something major would have had to have happened for Luke to exile himself from the world and the “murder” of his child may have been that)(I mean even Leia and Han are unsure about why he gave up). We still don’t know who left Rey on the planet (maybe Kylo? he did seem to know her in some way). Either way, it just proves to me that Rey is Luke’s daughter and that the Force wants them to be together (like the Force wanted Luke and Leia).
the set-up for meg on ouat:
“a plucky young adventurer with a sly sense of humor and a tough, no-nonsense spirit. And though she has spent a long time languishing in a dungeon, her inner spark has not burned out. Rather, it is waiting for the right opportunity to shine brightly again.”
hmmmm :) ???
and hercules is supposed to “fall in love with a beautiful princess.”
at least if I have to go back to ouat hell for Abigail I can't imagine any better people to suffer with than you and Melissa
