Tonight I once again mourn the loss of emuparadise... They were working towards an awesome and extensive archive of games!! They provided safe ways to get emulators and roms and play video games, even the obscure ones you thought were forgotten in your childhood!! They had it all man there was almost no game I could think of that they didn't have, and they had games I wouldn't have thought to try! I fucking loved emuparadise it gave me a chance to start the collection of my dreams and have access to games that are now so hard to find in working condition at decent prices?!!!! I MISS EMUPARADISE THEY REALLY GOT IT

The thing I’ll miss most about EmuParadise is the random image of Samus that’s there for no reason

EDIT: Note that EmuParadise is still active, but they’ve removed all of their game downloads to avoid legal action against them. A few other rom sites have also been shutdown recently.

Am I the only one pissed at the argument of "just buy ur old games lol cheapass pirate"??? Like. So many of these fucking games on sites like Emuparadise are either rare, expensive, or both.

Sites like Emuparadise are effectively retro gaming museums. An easy way to access old games that are out of production or otherwise.

And another point, since a vast majority of these games are out of production? A majority are out of circulation as well. Not to mention if you buy a game off Ebay or any of the resellers, the developers make literally none of that money. Not even by any stretch of logic do game devs make money off resells of physical copies.

And this is the ONLY way to buy these games now.

We are effectively losing museums, libraries, public archives of games. If all of these sites get permanently shut down, a vast majority of these games will never see the light of day again.

And that.

That is why I'm pissed.

I'm not pissed that I won't be able to play these old games for free anymore.

I'm pissed that gaming history is effectively being erased.

folks out there defending nintendo like “oh games aren’t just gonna disappear” motherfucker there’s still hundreds if not thousands of commercially released games that Just Don’t Fucking Exist anymore as far as anyone knows or are being hoarded by some crusty fucks who refuse to upload any of that shit

and games AREN’T going to last forever

wanted to play a CD-i game? good luck, most CD-i’s have a battery that’s probably burst and leaked acid all over the motherboard now. wanted to play some og xbox titles like gunvalkyrie or breakdown before the xbone backcompat thing? good luck finding a functioning xbox, their clock capacitors are literally destroying xboxes worldwide.

and the carts and discs themselves are no stranger to death, with bitrot actually affecting a LOT of PC games right now because of how cheaply they were made! and that affects ALL CDs! saturn games and sega-CD games are up next! and after that, PS1 and dreamcast! and some games are just like that! you know why valkyrie profile is so expensive? because the slightest damage to the disc can make it unplayable!

not to mention cartridges that just rot away or lose the ability to save!  basically, you won’t find many working PS1 games in 50 years, if at all.

You: Nintendo is a company that should be allowed to protect its own intellectual property as it sees fit. You may not like the result but you could respect the outcome and the will of the corporation to decide to decide how, when, where and IF to allow access to these services.
