Just when I’ve managed to convince myself that my empathy is largely due to an overactive imagination and being in love with too many sci-fi and fantasy stories, I walk past a group of BLM protesters on campus. So much raw emotion, some of it mine, most of it not... I went back to the office and cried.
This is every day life for so many people. I have to privilege to sort of choose to care about this, but this is their life. And all of it is horrible and heartbreaking.
WEEK 2: Choosing Genres
The genre that I chose is structured first by showing a picture of a police officer and right below it there is a statement which says that racial profiling is destroying our community. Then the article starts by talking about a movement called #BlackLivesMatter and followed up by the case of Eric Garner and then information of racial profiling. This helps the author convey people because as soon as they open the article the audience will see the picture of the police officer and then the racial profiling statement. This helps by making people concentrate on what the real issue, which is the law enforcement using their power and racially profiling innocent people just for the color of their skin. There is only one visual in this article/genre which is the picture of the police but there are also a lot of quick links that can help get more information about the racial profiling topic.
The intended audience for the article/genre that I chose is the African Americans. The purpose of the information shown in this article is to persuade people to help and stop racial profiling but it is also to inform the general public on how bad black people are treated. The author of this article is not only trying to convince black people to take matter on the situation of racial profiling but the author is also trying to convince the general public to realize that every person can be a victim of racial profiling so the author wants people to help and stop this issue.
How this genre helps establish the credibility of the information is by seeing that it was written by Ranjana Natarajan who is a clinical professor and director of the Civil Rights Clinic at The University of Texas School of Law and was published by The Washington Post. This genre helps to evoke the feeling of the audience because of the facts that it was written to inform and it helps bring sadness towards the African American community and hatred towards law enforcement. One of the evidence shown in this article/genre has is that it mentions the case of a black male named Eric Garner who was pulled to the ground and was choked to death.
With everything going on, this song came to mind. Its not a widely well known track but sentiment therein seems apropos.
Today my dad was racially profiled for the 12345678765432th time. This is getting ridiculous.
How dare you? How dare you white woman stand and create a scene to publicly embarrass a hard working man who is just trying to buy some food for his family? Just because he isn't white, means he’s going to steal your belongings? #logic
And to the same police man who always stops my brother every time he is on the way to the city for a damn doctors appointment. Im sorry, I didn’t know deaf asian boys are capable of commiting crimes just by sitting on the train.

Equality.
Whats really the point of faking a news article. like reading these CNNBeLike tweets honestly just proves it. Seeing these articles about race equality and then looking at those, why are we not equal already? Like no one is equal. Everyone is given a label, if one person does something everyone like them who didn’t do a single thing is put in that label, ex. All Blacks commit crime, all whites are racist. Some Whites are racist, some blacks commit crimes, not everyone is like that. I know African Americans (Not sure if the politically correct term) who are racists, I have Caucasian family members who have committed crimes. but why can’t we be equal. How many people have to be killed or harmed for no reason (Shootings, War, Treyvon Martin Case, Rodney King Case) We all walk on two feet, we speak words. We aren’t aliens we aren’t some cartoon characters, this is a legitimate issue we need to face, along with gender equality. Everyone is equal, but if you say __ race is better than __, you’re not helping solve the problem. I’m a White Bi Teenager who enjoys baseball, Strip it all down, I’m a skeleton. My African American Friend who enjoys football, he’s just a skeleton, my Asian Friend, he’s a skeleton. We all walk, talk, and we live. We aren’t different. We just need to know the real story of life and actually care about each other instead of sitting reading bullshit articles or propaganda the government says or someone older says. Read facts, educate yourself, learn that not all Germans were Nazi’s, Not all Middle Easterners are Terrorists, Educate and move past the stereotypes, that is how we can be equal by learning the real life and pushing towards a better, brighter, equality filled future. Step back and think of what people would think you are if someone of your race killed a man and stole a car, you become labeled as “Oh all ___ are criminals” You probably don’t like that. If you don’t like it then why would it be okay for everyone to think it. That’s how you know equality, by imagining you on the receiving end of the racism, sexism, religism. Equality isn’t about fixing, its about educating and caring. We may not be able to fix each problem, but to build stairs to an answer. Each sky scraper started out as an idea, then a frame, then the building. Small steps and working together, that’s when we reach our goal.
In these last few months, we've been talking about this stuff amongst ourselves here on the radio show staff and researching and reporting in different parts of the country, and we have found some things that surprised us about policing and how complicated and difficult it is, and about how hard it is to sort out the part that race and racism play in all kinds of incidents, and we found ways that racism seems undeniable.

“Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses” sounds like today’s headlines. Rage Against the Machine speaking truth back in ‘92. End racial profiling. End racism. Black lives matter.
I had to repost this because it gives excellent insight to a warriors perspective on race. The millennial generation already has a profoundly different approach to racism and inclusion into the American dream. The next generation, Rodriguez will be the most prevalent name in the US, the kids will have always known of a black president and the will have spent their whole childhood at war. Any idea of racism will have to be learn from us as older people and carried on through ignorance. We need to be stronger as one group of different people not many groups if ignorant and hateful individuals.
