#davidbowie began work on his off Broadway stage production #lazarus before starting #blackstar; that album’s earliest tracks were written for this #musical. He collaborated with #endawalsh on this project, who wrote the book for the #play. #bowie was able to attend opening night, but when the original cast went into the studio to record this #album, they were told Bowie had died the day before. I haven’t had a chance to see a recording of the production yet, but from what I understand it’s based on the novel #themanwhofelltoearth, but not on the #film adaptation or Bowie’s starring role in #nicholasroeg’s film of the #1970s.
