The wrong Amazon is burning. •• The fires are releasing unsafe levels of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Excessive carbon dioxide traps heat and warms the planet. Excessive carbon monoxide poses a threat to human and animal health. The Amazon helps regulate global warming because its forests can absorb massive amounts of carbon emissions. But when deforestation occurs--clearance, cutting, and removal of trees for that space to be converted to non-forest use like farms or urban development--the carbon the trees stored is released into the environment, and the rainforest loses its capacity to absorb carbon emissions. Deliberate deforestation fires can and do get out of hand, destroying the delicate and interdependent ecosystems of the rainforest. The loss of trees from previous deforestation efforts leaves less to absorb the gases.

Sadly, this clearing was carried out in an area of native forest that is fundamental for traditional communities, a widespread issue as deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest has surged to its highest level in over a decade with a total of 11,088 square kilometers, or 4,281 square miles, of rainforest being destroyed in the last year, increasing 10% year-over-year. An area roughly the size of a football field is now being cleared EVERY SINGLE MINUTE in Brazil as the Amazon rainforest lost an estimated 5 million acres in 2020, an area roughly the size of Israel! The Amazon rainforest is home to countless animals and it plays a vital role in slowing down the pace of global warming so we MUST work together to stop this deforestation right now before we lose any more of our world’s precious forests! @Regrann from @tanyasrocks - When you buy products that contain palm oil, you contribute to deforestation which kills or makes the animals that live in the forests that get cut down. Big companies like PepsiCo have a lot of power, because they have money! But we have a lot of power in our voice! Are you going to just watch them destroy more forests and kill animals and help them get richer by buying their products? I won't! Please read below how you can send a message to PepsiCo and be heard! 💚🌱🐒🌱💚 Repost @animal.radical ・・・ If you want to know more about cutting palm oil 🌱from your diet read on. The Snack Food 20, identified by ran.org, are 20 companies that are the biggest users of palm oil. PepsiCo is the largest globally distributed snack food company in the world and is 13th (#1 being best) in terms of having a solid plan to ensure the palm oil they use is sustainable. With PepsiCo purchasing 450,000 tons of palm oil per year they need to do better. _ This is where you can help. First, go to www.ran.org/pepsico where you can send an email in your name to PepsiCo demanding change. Super easy and feels good to have a voice. Second, boycott PepsiCo. I have listed their brands below. A lot of it is junk food so cutting it from your diet not only helps save the rainforests and wildlife but is good for you. And third, spread awareness - #SayNoToPepsico! _ PepsiCo’s products are sold under the following 22 “billion dollar brands", plus 3 other smaller ones. Each brand can have many variations of products within it. For example, there are 30 different Frito Lay products alone. Look for the brand names below on packaging and don’t buy! _ PepsiCo Brands Pepsi Mountain Dew Diet Pepsi Pepsi Max 7up Sierra Mist Brisk Mountain Dew Lipton Gatorade Tropicana Aquifina Starbucks (ready to drink coffees) Lays Fritos Dorritos Cheetos Quaker Oats (hot & cold cereals) Miranda Ruffles Tostitos Walkers Naked Juice Sabra Hummus Stacys end _ Caption and photo art @animal.radical Background photo from Pixabay #CutConflictPalmOil #SnackFood20 #EndDeforestation #EndExtinction #NoJunkFood #PepsiCo #Indofood #SayNoToPesico #CloseTheLoophole #Laggard - #regrann
