i have complicated feelings about ender-on-earth fic bc it's so cruel but interesting? - but one of my fave "ship" fics handled this and his stress/trauma so well (with just a side of alai caring for him). that's the only one that's really worked tho

honestly my main problem with most enderfic is people expecting these characters to act like most fanfic characters? like almost any premise in enderfic is doable, as long as you remember and figure out that these kids are messed up, and how.

like i have zero issue with the notion of ender-on-earth fic or alai-goes-with-ender fic as ideas, but then the author needs to grasp that the former is cruel to ender, and the latter an agonizing exercise in trying to get back to a place of emotional openness where ender would fight it every scrap of the way.

but that’s not how fics and hell, fiction usually works with these scenarios, and so EG fanfic will lumber into the trap of trying to transplant those stories onto EG.

and that is not why i am into these books, so yeah

i’m gonna keep this short but BASICALLY if you write any shipfic surrounding just about any battle school or battle school-era character for the love of all that is holy realize these are damaged kids they will not be following your usual fandom clichés. especially with ender ‘i keep my distance because i’m so fucked up i don’t know how to connect with people anymore’ wiggin who is not going to be going on for centuries about how much he needs alai/bean/petra and then fall into their arms. these are difficult people. that is what makes them interesting. let them be fucking difficult and you will see your shipfic will finally transcend shitty fic clichés.
